I am new to computer gaming and i have a new computer, amd athlon xp 3000+, 512mb pc3200 and 120gb 8mb hard drive. I am saving up for a geforce 6600GT and was wondering if i should get the AGP or PCI. btw does it have SLI?
I bought a 6600GT AGP to replace my old GeForce3 My benchmark scores increased 4 times. I went from lowest settings in Farcry to highest and the game looks amazing and is very smooth.
EQ2 is a different story, went from lowest possible settings to mid settings and the game looks much better, but stutters really bad when in the city areas. I put it up on the highest settings and the game threw up and died.
I think the new Nividia cards don't work right with EQ2
PCI Express version has SLI by the way, but not the AGP

Hey there Tomo... There may be some confusion here... The big hype about the 6600 is that it's on the PCI-e (PCI Express) archiecture which is different from the PCI architecture. The enhanced PCI (PCIe) actually has more bandwidth than an AGP. The 6600's which are PCIe will not work in a standard PCI slot. Since you already have a new computer, which card you get will be highly dependant on what your montherboard can support. More than likely, your motherboard supports AGP and not PCIe since ePCI is relatively new. So you'll be wanting to get the AGP. If your motherboard does support PCIe, then you should probably get the PCIe card.
Now, I do know they do make some video cards for the PCI architecture, in which case between AGP and regular PCI, go with the AGP.

AGP no question.

PCIe > AGP > PCI
Hope that helps...
