In another in a continuing series of hacker exploits, Codemasters has sent word that its servers have been breached. In "one of those emails you hate to receive", Codemasters acknowledged that its website, eStore and CodeM database have all been accessed.
Codemasters CodeM database
Members' names, usernames, screen names, email addresses, date of birth, encrypted passwords, newsletter preferences, any biographies entered by users, details of last site activity, IP addresses and Xbox Live Gamertags are all believed to have been compromised.
Whilst we do not have confirmation that any of this data was actually downloaded onto an external device, we have to assume that, as access was gained, all of these details were compromised and/or stolen.
The Codemasters.com website will remain offline for the foreseeable future with all Codemasters.com traffic re-directed to the Codemasters Facebook page instead. A new website will launch later in the year.
If you have any Codemasters accounts, keep an eye on your email for more information as it becomes available.
Thanks to Ludipe for the tip.

I was about to post this and got the email on this today. Another game company hacked. Sigh, more rapid password changing coming.
Pity its taken them 1 week to inform us.
7 days codemasters ?, you having a laugh ?
A bloody joke. If they can't secure their customers then they are in the wrong buisness...
Well at least I have no more games with CM as Lotro changed to turbine and we needed to make a new account with new users and paswords, anyway... It's like some kind of conspiracy, I wonder who's next.
This at least, is good news. Hurrah for Spain!

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
After the Jumpgate Evolution fiasco and now this, i wont be touching any codemasters stuff with a barge pole !
Whoa!!! Interesting.
Codemasters won't be the last to be hacked. I can promise you that. No company is 100% secure and game companies are being targeted right now.
For all you ladies and gents posting stuff like, "they can't secure their servers," or "won't touch their games again": this is happening to all large companies at the moment. As said above, they won't be the last. Codemasters probably have industry-standard security, like most companies. But right now that's just not enough to stop the current hack epidemic.
Eventually it will happen to a company that you actually care for, so don't be so judgemental of Codemasters.
I do believe we have every right to be judgemental. As customers we expect a company to secure our information if they want us to providethem in order to use their products. I do care about Codemasters, but there is no excuse for this. The recent hacker attacks is reason enough to increase security measures.
We best not trust google anymore either after gmail was hacked to get to some well know peoples email accounts.
Every company makes mistakes. If you didn't buy any games from every company that had a swing somewhere along the lines then you would be left with nothing. Btw, the Jumpgate Evolution dump wasn't on their end, it was due to NetDevil's inability to deliver.
Sorry...the BEST countermeasures only come about after a certain attack type has been used. Hackers will always be ahead of those providing security, it's always been this way. A determined attacker will be able to find a way around any current security measures
You obviously don't understand how security and hacking goes. It doesn't matter if they got the best security in the world and they will still beable to be hacked. There is new software coming out for hacking by the day and that is why Anyones security is not good enough. No one is safe from hacking in reality. So dont be judgemental, your no one special anyway.
The reason why games companies are being targetted is all their private info and their game accounts are worth alot of money. as most people use the same password to their game account for all other passwords its hard to calculate the exact woth but its $ thousands per account.
Thats alot of money when you add all those accounts together.
All games companies are going to get hit. Hopefully most will have enough security to stop the info being stolen but its clear some dont.
Access to your bank accounts, full identity theft, able to take out credit cards under your name? Why thankyou.
You're right there. I agree. But I am willing to believe that companies have been looking at their security since the hack outbreak. You have to be willing to believe that Codemasters, Google, Sony, have all been using the appropriate security for their business. And I'm betting that until this happened, how much security they had up until now was probably not much of a concern for you. For me neither.
But now the unthinkable has happened, and the shit hits the fan. All I'm saying is, have a little forgiveness. I am certain that Codemasters is doing everything they can to rectify the problem. Think about it. How could they not? Anything else would just be bad business, right?
Did they go above and beyond the call of duty to research new ways to protect their data, or invest in the bleeding edge, most expensive software and hardware? Probably not. But I bet they went for customised industry standards that they could afford. I don't think you can be too harsh on them for that.
Of course, on the other hand, this is now becoming one hell of a wake-up call for companies. So I guess you could also say that the hackers are doing us a favour.
I'll give an example. Lately, my shop got broken into. I did what I thought was necessary, to protect my business. Pretty much the same as every other business on my block. But it still happened. Could I have done more? Sure. They wanted in, so they found a way.
So yeah, try and be a little forgiving.
You obviously didnt see how Codies treated the European Jumpgate Evolution community.
That's probably because over the internet, it's common knowledge that information should be stored in a secure way. As such, big companies dealing with hundreds of thousands of customers data would logically have more than enough money to have a suitable security system in place to prevent most of the attacks. For that reason, we don't pay much attention to companies security because we believe it to be a given in this day and age.
Seriously, who would've thought that SONY would store their customers data in a .txt file....really. SONY was defeated by one of the oldest and easiest trick in the hacker book, an SQL Injection. For such a primitive and well-known method to work, it's appaling. Hard to believe they've been using appropriate security. As for Google, well they've been dealing with Chinese hackers, likely connected to the chinese government since it comes from a military base set in China. It's a lot harder to defend against those kinds of hackers. What SONY had to deal with, is something almost anyone could've done after reading about Programming For Dummies.
This is a myth.

Going to have to disagree with you on this nothing is 100% full proof . Just look at the pentagon they have had data intrusions multiple times.
So to go along with this i believe hotmail has been hacked AGAIN 2 seperate hotmail accounts i have have been hacked and now have the same secret questions...one i would never use. I dont know for sure if this has happened to anyone else but after checking some support forums i think that it has. I noticed it yesterday... hopefully they allow the 2 accounts to at least be supspended.
By the way for all those people getting ready to say "wtf you doing using hotmail!" i was just about to change everything over yesterday and look what happens lol. Its not funny but yea its funny T_T
Welp.. Looks like we need to elect another Bush to office to wage the War on CYBER-terrorism..
It is not just game companies being hacked like crazy these days. Citibank was hacked and it took them over a month to tell their customers, lol. I've been hearing about a lot of companies getting hacked lately, and not all of them have been neglecting their security either.
Sony fell to an SQL injection attack? Wow, I hadn't read up on it as much as I needed to. They stored their information in plaintext, too? That's just pathetic and unexcusable.
We need some more facts about the attack on Codemasters, though.
