If they finally do so, this game will be the grieviest griev-game of everything released. Speaking of PvP.
Age of Conan was a gankfest from day one. And on top that you actually can "literally" sh!t somebody on his ripped out head in terms of disgracing, psychically, when a finisher is applied.
What turns out will be: You will not be able to go to shops anymore, your low toons will not make it anymore near the next zones because they get now (not only ganked in low-lvl zones, no. now they get) ganked everywhere.
Superb when it comes to: How do I get rid of potential customers 101. Funcom lol again. Nice concept, but I know you will ruin it. PvP is still just a huge pile of unfairness.
Heh. I guess that reading and understanding is an art in itself
The new Blood & Gore server uses a different ruleset and it's a new PvP server: everyone who chooses to play on that server chooses to play within such an environment where there is less player comfort and less rules that provide protection. That's what a lot of PvP'ers have been clamoring for. For those who don't want to play with those harsher PvP rules, there's always the regular PvP servers where the usual current PvP servers are active.

I don't see the appeal of this under the current AOC system. What they seem to be trying to do is resurrent the old nostalgia people have for early UO. However, that was a skill, not level, based system. Although in pre-Trammel UO there certainly there were FOTM templates and max skill-grinding, a new player was not completely helpless.
A lot of AoC PvP'ers liked the early days of PvP'ing in AoC, so the B&G server will be more like that, added to it specific rules that a lot of those PvP oriented gamers were clamoring for since beta but that are also rules that don't sit well with a lot of other MMO gamers. Solution: separate PvP server for those who like early-day PvP in AoC and harsher rules, where at the same time skill has more effect than gear.

MMORPG.com and Funcom have partnered to bring our readers some exciting news for Age of Conan players: When the new "Unrated" version of the game goes live, a new hardcore PvP server called Blood & Glory will make its debut. Funcom's Craig Morrison has an exclusive look at the new servers. Check it out and then let us know your thoughts!
For some the true appeal of the Hyborian setting is the brutal and unforgiving nature of the world Robert E Howard described. That isn't always something that is compatible with making an accessible game that appeals to a broad spectrum of users, as you are usually aiming for with an MMO, but with a license like Conan sometimes it is worth exploring other, less conventional ways, to bring that blood soaked and brutal world to life for those who are willing to live a less forgiving life.
That is where the new Blood and Glory server ruleset comes in.
So a slightly less coded free for all pvp environment that you can get in say, Darkfall or such. For a split second I thought they grew testacles and were going to do a three realm pvp game. But that would require thought.
If they wanted a real hard core pvp game they'd do what Shadowbane did - so many classes and races...so unlimited - so impossible for the boys at Oslo, Norway.
Personally I say why go half way:
1 server for the free for all loot drop players in a Shadowbane rule set world
1 server for the Dark Age of Camelot players so we can finally have three realm pvp functionality.
Same old "why we went F2P games." Beating a dead horse I know - /moving on.
This update looks pretty cool. Though I do miss the culture war server. I had always hoped the developers would restrict players from grouping or guilding with the other cultures just to see what would've happened. Stygia forever!
Why don't they just add perma-death?
LF Perma-death guild~
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

They already did that, the Twilight race war PvP server. It didn't take as well as some people thought it would.

If Shadowbane is what you like then move on and get back to Shadowbane, pls.

This is the kind of PvP server that most PvP'ers wanted most. Sure, they can make all kinds of different servers but it's sensible to pick the one that most AoC PvP players will favor, which is this one.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
What about the other servers? Why have non-hardcore PVP servers? Anyone who roles on a PVP server already wants these rules.
I suggest making 2 server types:
*PVP Hardcore (as explained in the OP).
*PVP Optional (use a PVP flag system to enable/disable PVP)
Basically turn Tyranny into Hardcore, Sure make this new start server Blood and Glory (for the fresh start alone makes it worth it), then merge Cimmeria and Set, and install the flag system.
*Remove guard NPC from ALL servers.
*Remove Bori from ALL servers. (worst PVP idea EVER!).
Then for long sustaining future content, make faction wars. Let us flag ourselves as combatants. Make regional control, in sorts like the GCW system in SWG.
Give us a reason to fight (other then mindless grinding), and tools to make it happen!
P.S.
Stop making "the grind for gear" the reason to PVP. PVP should be about defeating a hated enemy. Winning a war. Invasion. Not grinding stupid PVP gear.
Good. It's time to see all these hardcore bitc-er, 'players' will finally put their money where their mouths are. It's easy to complain about the lack of PvP when you don't actually have to do it. Now you have an outlet, a particularly brutal one, in the form of a game that has undergone much improving and patching and is probably one of the most beautiful available to date. Let's see how many will actually have the balls to hang and how many will run to the forums crying because they're getting ganked and can't accomplish anything.
Go. Frolick, decapitate, be merry!
"Forums aren't for intelligent discussion; they're for blow-hards with unwavering opinions."
I think it's fair to say that their server can be classified as 'hardcore' in todays age of gaming. Most games these days are so soft that a ruleset like this is absolute bliss for a PvP'er like me. The only two games that ever played right in hardcore PvP were Eve & Shadowbane. One is still a niche game that's been going for 8 years now and the other is making a comeback in an emulated version. Apart from those two, PvP pretty much sucks period in MMO's these days.
Either way, the whole point of why this is exciting is that most people left 6 months after the game was released due to it not being ready just like 90% of other MMO's, so starting a NEW server, fresh, no existing players, all at the same point, with new PvP rules, SOME item loot, no guards, no safe spots, ONE character only and the chance to get to play it now that it's more polished than ever is an awesome thing for old players.
They're not doing this for the existing players... they already have your money. It's a marketing campaign to bring back in the open-PvP community that did not hang around for this game to mature, and it's a damn good marketing ploy IMO.
I'll be back, with a lot of other PvP'ers, the second that this server goes live.
I see the same moaning here as i do in WoW... Boho.. poor little me who is a PvP:er.. no goals no gains...
So make your own then.. gather up a large party and simply declare a specific part of land yours... Make sure it is important in some way... and then run any one who sets their foot in it away.
Presto... goals...
As for gains... well you get some loot and the wonderfull feeling of enriching another players PvP experince.
Would have worked if there were factions without that it will be such a gankfest most players will try it and give up and the server will end up with an extremly low population . Much of this sounds like a good idea but its fundamentally flawed because of the lack of faction play .
What about the other servers? Why have non-hardcore PVP servers? Anyone who roles on a PVP server already wants these rules.
Marketing. Making an announcement stating that they are reverting parts of the game to the way it was at launch, removing guards from the existing pvp server and adding a random inventory drop doesn't sound as flashy as "New Hardcore PVP Server!"
I'll play it for a while but the pvp will likely end up stale within a few months again.
AoC's combat engine is leaps and bounds beyond any MMORPG out today. This is the reason I play it.
I always think its funny when DaoC / WoW / Warhammer players (I played them yes) complain about not having designated "realms" for pvp.
Do you really need who you can and cannot pvp against to be spoon fed to you?
Do you know there are such things as guilds which players control, and that these guilds create far more dynamic and interesting pvp then static realm division?
All and all I think the new B&G AoC server is going to be a blast, and for a soon to be F2P game with the BEST combat, amazing graphics, open world pvp, and mature content, there is nothing on the market even close to it I've seen in my 12 years playing MMORPGs.
You can call me a fanboi, but I can agree with most people Funcom has made a ton of mistakes. There are still some major issues with class balance in pvp. Overall though, after playing AoC and really learning the melee combot engine, there is no going back to garbage games like Wow, Rift, Warhammer ect. AoC is a next generation MMORPG which broke the mold of auto attack / world cooldown game mechanics. Going back and playing old MMORPGs is like tic tac toe compared to speed chess.
This wont work for AoC. For a game to work with FFA, loot PvP, it has to be designed for it from ground up. AoC was and is a primarily PvE game and as such these kind of servers will have very low population due to combat lasting 3-4 seconds and ganking being rampant.
This sounds cool, but it is a couple years too late. This should have been an available playstyle from day 1 seeing as how there were so many people wanting to play AOC for the hardcore PvP it seemed like it would support pre-release.
I agree that was one of reasons why i bought AoC but it failed and with so many whiners they made pvp servers carebear servers.
But at least they dare to change, i say bravo!
Specially the one character is great, pitty there will not be full loot, but at least its going right direction to more hardcore.
Next to Darkfalll im gonne tryout this new AoC pvp server.
Hope only devs will show they now have some strong backbone and will not bow to whiners to ease it up again?

If you all have same mindset it won't matter that your ganked you win or lose thats all what matters a true FFA PVPER dont whine and cry when they lose and sure its a small nich group that are strong enough to endure this but this kind of servers is only thing i play mmo for.

I wonder how exactly people will be able to receive and give quests without guards now lol

This is hilarious in about 6 months they shut this "new" server down due to lack of population.
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.
Game(s) I Am Currently Playing:
GW2 (+LoL and BF3)
Or empty and devoid of player population.

The coolest part about this was the 1 character per server bit.

It's all about Zone Control baby

This is clearly not for everybody Most people wont like it ... BUT server will be packed up and i will be the first one in queue.........
Looking forwards to several months of epic fun.
What will happen to the server after a few months? Well who cares, really. Its supposed to be a game, for fun, not our second "or primary" life.
