How to shut off auto-renew on XBL without calling India

twodayslatetwodayslate Member Posts: 724

Not sure how many people are aware of this, but someone on Reddit found out how to shut off the auto-renew on XBox Live.  If you've ever tried deactivating it before, they won't let you do it: you have to call an 800 number that routes to India, and is only available for four hours every morning.  A shameful practice by Microsoft.

This guy found an odd loophole that enables the shut-off function to be used on the website.  Here.

Edit: if you aren't a gold subscriber on a yearly cycle, this likely won't be an issue for you.

Ah yes, the age old ploy of making 'opting out' of something a PITA to do to try to get customers just give up and live with having to pay extra.

Nice find. I wish there were more workaround like this available to get around the non-sense usually required to unsubscribe or otherwise opt-out of something you don't want.

One of the reasons why I´ll never buy an xbox again now that my 360 is broken. You can activate XBoxLive with a single button.
But to cancel it I had to visit a website via PC to get the phone number where I had to call and sit in some waiting loop.

Does anyone know if Nintendo is less complicated?
