Necroing threads....

strangerdangstrangerdang Member Posts: 233

I think were getting a bit carried away with the locking threads for necro purposes.  Im seeing conversations shut down when theres been a week of down time on the thread.  Some of your lesser frequented game sub forums seem needelessly effected by this push to consider all threads dead.

How about we lay off locking threads for necroing that are not actually dead?

Maybe it's just me, but I would have sent this comment to the "management" rather than making a thread out of it.  I agree with your sentiment, but the best way to get something done is talk to someone who can DO something. Go to "Contact Us" at the bottom of the page....then "Community Concerns"....then fill out the short form. They're very good about answering.

I agree on the condition that a "dead" thread is considered to be a thread with the last post made greater than one year ago.  Anything  under that is still up for discussion to me.  for example, say 9 months ago I made a thread about a game asking if they had  fixed bugs x and y and everyone says no so no one posts.  Well then someone comes in (9 months from the final post in the thread) and posts that those bugs are now fixed and they have added features A, B, and C.  It should matter that the person posted 9 months after the fact, its still in the "relevant" time frame because as the OP I might still have some back of my mind intrest and would like info that new posters can bring due to it being active again.  Creating a new thread just clogs up the forums and is couter productive.

TL;DR version: Dont lock threads until the final post was made over 1 year ago.

Dont mean to double post but if he can get a big enough group of people agreeing, the mods with not only see the thread anyway but also see that people agree with the idea.

I suppose you have a point. :)  Might as well take it straight to the "top" as well though.

I'd have to agree with this post entirely.

I also saw some posts getting locked for necro after dec 31st as the mods thought an entire year went by in one single night.
