why all the hate?

I mean, besides the fact that most of the community here has been jaded by one failed MMO after another.......

Admittedly I don't know much about BP, I'm just halfway through the prologue now (I had been waiting for JGE in the background and after finally giving up on that found BP was in open beta).. but I'm very impressed by the game so far for a F2P.

The focus here is on the combat, which is fun... pretty much just what I've been looking for.  The game isn't as refined as I imagine a P2P version like JGE would have been, but you can try it for free and decide on what to pay for as you go... if it gets to be too much I'll quit.

I do wish there was/hope for open space PvP...  fighting over resources or whatever... attacking enemy (player owned) stations etc....  I honestly don't know if there is any PvP other than the simple mission instanced stuff....  I understand there are PvE missions which expose you to the risk of PvP which is good, in the end I think this will have to be  a PvP focused game to survive.

All in all I think this game has a fighting chance since it is totally different from the competition and free to try...  hopefully it will take off so I'll have plenty of people to shoot at and group with and provide the devs with cash flow to improve and expand on what they've already got.

So far it is simplistic, but fun =)  They've obviously been "borrowing" from the competition (EVE especially) and hopefully they will continue that trend and implement more EVE like gameplay elements.

In the end what I want is EVE with twitch combat and planets that dont look so small =P

Uhh, well I don't think anyone has been actively "hating" on the game, but I will echo what many of have said, and that is that there is just not a lot of game here.  You are stuck in the same ship forever, buying little upgrades for it, running the same missions over and over; you get pick a faction, which apparently means nothing except you can kill the other faction.

To me Black Prophecy seems like it was originally designed as a P2P game, but the developers just ran out of ideas/money/whatever and created a game seemingly devoid of content.  Also, I have read that some people have problems just getting the game to run.  I know that on one of my computers, everytime I completed the tutorial, my game crashed/black-screened.  Same place everytime.  Works fine on my gaming computer however.  Unfortunately, this is nothing like Eve with twitch combat.  It's in space yeah, and there is twitch combat.  But that's it.

Aye, I'm aware that it doesn't have much of what eve has at this point, but I'm hoping if it takes off it might evolve in that direction.

That said I am about as Jaded as anyone at this point, I've anxiously awaited the release of  far too many terrible games and nowadays I'm not optimistic about any of them.

The MMO system has too many limitations... namely the need for endless repeatable content to keep customers and the problems with the world needing to be a mostly static environment.  It worked at first because it was new, but now we've all been there and done that.  Somebody needs to truly reinvent the genre... quite a few are trying but I don't see any real winners yet.  Most here cry for "sandbox" but I played SWG for a good while pre-CU and I know how that turns out.....  even if the game wasn't broken the players would have ruined it.

I'd still be playing EVE but the combat get's really boring and PvE/mining etc. are mind numbingly repetitive.  It's the only MMO I know where 90% of the players are AFK while playing!  I also think the planets look all out of scale.... they look tiny... flying through them at warp speed especially looks ludicrous.  Planets in BP look the way they should.

I'd kill for twitch EVE... and I think mining would be a whole lot neater if there was collision damage and moving asteroids to dodge....  twitch mining (think JG classic mining plus being in a belt of moving asteroids) =P

I don't see a lot of hate just not much interest. Its not really your standard mmorpg, but thanks to this site for putting me on to it XD, even if it does sort of mystify me as to why it has a board here.

Way I look at it it's wing commander privateer multiplayer pvp edition ;) (or descent the ships handle a lot like descent).

I can't speak to comparing eve's content to it never played eve heard ms excel in space and leveling by not playing and walked the other way.

But it has more content than privateer, descent or xwing vs tie so its good in my books. I could see how a lot of folks could find it repetitive but dogfighting sot of is by nature. I think if folks thought of it more along the lines of a mmog they'd be happier with it, but again sort of the wrong site for it lol.

If you mean because it has spaceships, then yeah. But that's where the similarities end.

I think an Eve game with twitch would be freaking fantastic, but this isn't that game. .
