Well unlike Bill, I'll take it one step further. I think Steam is the best thing that happened to PC gaming in the last decade, Steam is everything XBLA wish it was. for free.
As for Funcom, I hope they bring TSW in Steam too, much like AoC but now very doubtfull with the publishing deal with EA.
Steam is nice, they have a big issue though: you are obliged to install all you games in the same folder. Big issue with people using SSD.
You don't need / can afford having all games in a SSD.
Back to The Secret World, I burnt my wings on AoC. I'll wait at least one month before giving them any money if I where you.
I don't think TSW will be primary avaible at origins.
Why?
Funcom has always made their MMO games avaible for Download at their account management pages. This includes AoC, AO and BLC(They only publish BLC). Besides of that they are very likely to use their own "Account System" again for The Secret World.
I won't say that TSW won't be distributed via origins, But I highly doubt that it will be the only method.
One area where funcom doesn't have to much experience with is selling "Boxed Versions". For these cases they have always partnered up with a 3rd party. I guess that is where EA comes into play

Totally agree with you. At least this is the reason FC have given to the norwegian media on why they chose to work with EA Partners (div of EA). TSW just got postponed to 9. june, and as far as I know the betaplayers really really love the game, and have started to complain about not beeing able to play more.
The Game itself plays well, without lag and animations supposed to be awesome.
Just heard a rumor the other day about EA placing a bid on FC last month or so, but it was denied...? Anyone heard this? The thing is... That I acctually think that would be a good ting for both of them. FC is really really small. Their stock is low, so they are relatively cheap to buy. And I think EA need a totally new direction to go. They have a bad rep now, though they probably dont know that themselves, and I think they would benefit from a dev like FC. They make totally different games than EA publish and could bring on a new ear for the big slow giant...
i also don't think that Funcom can be pushed around like bioware was. this isnt saying that bioware is cowardly and weak kneed. they have no experiance in this field. so EA could literally feed them a ton of Bull to get them to rush out the door. they try the same thing with Funcom they laugh at EA telling them that they have no clue what they are talking about.
Because i can. I'm Hopeful For Every Game, Until the Fan Boys Attack My Games. Then the Knives Come Out. Logic every gamers worst enemy.

Sorry, it should be:
EA HAVE NO SWAY OVER THE DEVELOPMENT OR UPKEEP OR DIRECTION OF THIS GAME.
EA HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ACCOUNTS FOR THIS GAME OR CUSTOMER SUPPORT!
