They should have went in the direction of starship troopers with carriers and dropships and do it up with real planetsides
Id love to fly troops and supplies from a carrier re enter an atmosphere droping troops into a hot LZ needs a good evolving plot story to hold it together and give it continuity.
THERE'S a thought....... would be an interesting concept
Fool me once (SWG), shame on you! Fool me twice (DCUO), shame on me!
To be fair those both are titles that SOE did not have complete creative control over.
I played the original PlanetSide for years and I am really looking forward to the new one. (Same with EverQuest Next.)
To avoid a potentially great game just because you don't like some things that the publisher did in the past (I personaly would not own a single EA or UBI title if I adhered to a rule like that) really only hurts you in the end.
But if you're really that concerned that SOE might mess up one of it's own titles then wait to see what people say after it has been released, but don't kick it off your radar completely. I've always felt the PlantSide dev's were pretty cool.. I even forgive them for that whole BFR thing since they admitted it was a mistake and say they will not make an appearance in the new version.
As for being rushed.. it has been in development for many years already. Too long a development can hurt just as much as too short of one... You lose focus and get conflicting ideas as people move in and out of the project. But even if you do feel longer is better, whose to say a release date announcment has to mean it's releasing Soon(tm)?
Not sure what happened above.. it got the quote in but left off my entire post.. thankfully I saved it, so this is what it should have said....

No matter how great psnext may or may not turn out, there is and always will only be a certain number of people interested. There is a massive fps market out there, when ps first came out it was very popular. But it suffered from the same thing that any mass battle pvp mmo will suffer from, cshd.
As soon as you add it, an huge percentage of that massive fps crowd instantly want nothing to do with it. So while there will always be those (myself included) who are willing to put up with the big draw back of cshd, most are not.

Assuming the quality of the product is decent, I think there will be a sizeable market for this game, considering there really isn't any other true MMOFPS games out there. You have stuff that is close like MAG and Battlefield, but no true open world MMOs.

Having seen the results of CSHD, I'd have to agree. Its WAY too easy to abuse, and I'd rather not have much to do with a FPS PvP game that uses it.

Looks like you're talking about DUST514.......
Maybe Sony and CCP going to merge the Planetside Next and DUST in one game.
There are a lot of rumors. There are lot of things going on at the moment. SOE pulling the plug of 1 game, now an anouncement about another. CCP having problems with their EVE Online playerbase. Makes you wonder whats cooking......

Just my 2 cents
