OK im sure ill get all types of flames like OMFG n00b, your some dumb and other crap like that .

I know most of the MMO gamer abreviations and such; but the thing ive started to see more recently and dont understand is the 1337 thing  WTF does it mean?

Please I dont care how many people call me stupid or flame me I just need 1 mature person to fill me in.

    It simply means "elite", and about 5-7 years ago it was an extremely popular fad to substitute non-alpha characters in words so as to appear unique and different.

    Nowadays, as far as I can tell, it's just a way of labeling someone as a pretender. It's something akin to calling a person a "poser".

    It used to be used by hackers as some form of code language I believe, then it become adopted by a lot of the counter-strike community.

    1337 5P34K or Leet Speak if you must i guess originated from hackers... THey used to call themselves Elite Hackers or rather 1337 H4XX0R5. Supposed to be some sort of code language or sumthin.. but then 13 year old boys started using it to spread a TidalWave of annoying spams that were even more annoying because they were unintelligible.
