Rift Or Aion. Which One Do You Like Better or Something Better?

alienbloomalienbloom Member Posts: 4

I really want a good online MMORPG game that i wont get bored of after a month of play. Like a good decent leveling system like as you get to a higher level it gets harder. Also want to do some cool unique quests. Now i have played the famous World of Warcraft but found it to get extremely boring and i disliked the graphics and wasn't that amusing. I have played Aion and Rift and i think both these games are good so far but do they get more fun at higher levels. Which Out Of those two do you thinks better or is there something better?

You have to remember that Aion is a korean typed game, so it feels like a grind sometimes, but the events at the end are worth the fun.

Rift is your alternative to WoW, a new polished WoW, with events from Warhammer.

Rift 1-50 is really fast. but others say it's a "grind" when i played beta it didnt seem like that. however, rift doesnt have enough gameplay to go with the game. Thats why a lot of people ended up quitting the first month or two.

Based on personal experience i like both for different reasons, try the free trials and see what you like more.

    and in my opinion

    Rfit is a Apple.

    Aion is a Ornage.

and all though I like rift, it's nice and can be fun,

It doesn't feel as rewarding as Aion when you Accomplish something. And Aions PvP is more Balanced then Rift,  Aion is visualy more Attractive then Rift, also the Character Customization is !FAR! better in Aion then Rift, far better then anyother MMO I have ever played really,  I say give Aion a try there is a free trail going now, so you have nothing to lose.

"Rift Or Aion. Which One Do You Like Better or Something Better?"

I would say AION was better for me.

Although the grind was ridiculous at launch, that is no longer an issue from what I gather. (I played for a year but not now) I still have nightmares about Miragent's armor to this day.

I loved the whole concept of Aion and specifically the open PvP in the Abyss with fort battles with the other factions. Graphics were considerably better as well in AION as every armor piece and weapon; Rift is sorely lacking in this regard. Models of characters look stiff and boring in Rift except for the Kelari and Malthosian. The dwarves don't even look like dwarves at all.

I found endgame raiding 'harder' in Rift (its not that hard) but AION didn't have 20 mans at launch really so Rift bosses were more complicated. I thought AION had more interesting dungeons overall like the ship dungeons, Draupnir Cave, etc (layout wise) but their bosses were pretty tank and spank and not very difficult.

Crafting gear was better in AION so your toon got to use a crafted piece until you wore holes in the knees unlike Rift were you change your gear more than Paris Hilton changes her mind in a coffee shop.

The ganking factor was bad in AION which made a lot of people quit, but in Rift there really isn't any ganking because people don't really PvP outside of the generic Warfronts.

Both games have extremely small maps that close in on you after a few months time.

I had a one year sub to AION and a six month sub to Rift but overall, I don't like that type of boring WoW gear progression that Rift has and am leaning heavily towards not renewing when my sub is up in October.

I guess bottom line is if you like PvP you'd probably pick AION as it's built for that from the ground up, while Rift is a bigger PvE game with PvP tossed in like parsley on a baked potato.

well said.  cant agree more here.  I cancelled RIFT and resubbed to AION.  RIFT is for PvE crowd who love the raids...Im not that kinda playa.

TBH i had a better time playing AION at launch then i have Rift.. I played AION hardcore 8-12hrs each day for 2months till i hit 50.. I played for about another 3months as a lvl 50, most of that time was spent grinding bloodstains for miragents.. I failed on several occasions so i sold my account for $$ after that to a guildie.. Look up miragents/fenrils before you commit to AION.. People say it dosn't matter much anymore but it's buff's still make it some of the best gear in the game besides lvl 50 abyss gear which will take you a lot longer to get, and don't even think about getting it w/o miragents gear or better otherwise you'll jsut lose more AP by going to the abyss then you would gain it..

Rift i've found to have a more westernized and solid gameplay.. It's more polished (even though AION's been out longer) and is having a steady stream of content coming for it, unlike AION which has to wait for its content to be localized first so patches are months-years inbetween.. But as of late it's gotten a few updates.. But Rift is also very simular to WoW so if you don't like WoW you may not like Rift, but then again i hated WoW and i love Rift lol..

I'd say for pvp + longer gameplay (albiet thx to tedious grinding) go for AION but if you're looking for a game that has a good mix of solid PvP + PvE and has more of a future then go for Rift.. Just keep in mind AION's end game is pretty much pvp + 1 or 2 instances and Rifts end game is raiding + gear progression.

PVP in Rift sucks. Running the same few warfronts for pvp and maybe some open-world ganking is pretty boring. End game is a gear grind and a raid grind. PVE game with PVP lazily tacked on.

I enjoyed Rift up into the 20's. Then I lost interest. I wasn't clear why I was doing any of it in the long run. I don't like battlegrounds in general and I dont' like fast leveling.

To that end, it's as if they toned down the rifts and invasions in such a way that they were no longer really taking over areas for significant amounts of time.

I ended up going back to Aion and am very much enjoying it.

Aion end game has alot more then 2 instances.

try about 6 and a few world Bosses at end game, not to mention Fort bosses to kill in order to capture forts.

I was thinking about this comparison today too because my account just expired in Aion and trying to decide what I want to play next. I agree with others about Rift being a more PVE based easier game, and Aion being a slower progression, more rewarding, and definitely best looking MMO. I've also loosely been thinking about WoW, and I am popping back in to check on friends with a scroll of resurrection this week.

The thing that keeps nagging me every time I think of Rift is that it's all been done before. If I wanted to play Rift for a specific feature or feel, I can find it in an MMO released prior to Rift with more content and polish. I don't mean to say that Rift isn't polished as it's probably the smoothest release in MMO history, but it hasn't had the time to build up content, updates, and balance adjustments.

So WoW's feature list really just cancels out Rift for me. I can't find any reason aside from PQs/Rifts to think about subscribing to Rift since they are so similar, and I wouldn't be surprised if Blizzard is working on how they will add a similar PQ system in WoW. I've also lost a lot of interest in WoW since Cata released, so it's hard to think of either one being much fun compared to other genres of games or other MMOs.

Aion just feels incomparable to me. It looks significantly better, and there are a handful of unique quirks to discover and learn. I think the only similarities to other MMOs are really characteristics of the genre more than copied code and detail. I'm just fighting the fact that progression can be so slow that I feel the time was wasted if I couldn't get another level, gear upgrade, or achievement in a short time. It's hard to get that feel in WoW or Rift since there's is an achievement, quest, or dozens of other things to accomplish around every corner with very little effort. I should probably add sometimes with no effort, making the rewards pretty trivial since any player more dedicated to the game probably earned it months or years ago. Not to mention, you can always bet on Blizzard changing an item's value or rarity so much to the point that a blind, deaf, monkey with no limbs could earn it about 6 months after you did.

So I'm leaning towards Aion... It's pretty hard to beat compared to today's MMOs, and the only times it feels too slow is when I need a quick, casual, easy game to play for a short while, which is probably when I should just logout of Aion and go play a DS or PSP game.

Aion was like miles ahead of Rift, i personally think, but both games aren't that bad nor very good, they just missed their mark.

If they had mainly fixed the item weight in Aion, Aion would have been a blast (grind and rng also was to be fixed but it wasn't as game breaking as item base). But if you compare it to the prior NC game L2, it was just way better, still they couldn't get out the "korean" mindset enough. Game had really nice pvp features though, the best from all pvp games imo, and this by a long shot.

Rift would have been a blast if the Rifts was actually real rifts, and not just super spawns, a bit like Oblivion portals were.

Both games are very lacking though, and you can tell it by their very relative success, or unsuccess as you wish to call it. Rift is doing slightly better in the west, because imo item based balance is gamebreaking for Aion. The no taste of Rift wasn't game breaking, but its not much better. Tasteless game are tasteless.

So to me they are very close, i still think quality wise Aion is slightly better, overall more interesting at least, but more frustrating too, because it have features at the border of game breaking point (grind, items stat, and rng crafting). So Rift is smoother but more boring too, its up to you to choose really.
