The game prompted me during beta to open some ports on my firewall to allow a faster download.  Its slow because it uses alot of peer-2-peer file downloads to reduce the cost.  If there was one thing I could complain about WoW, that would be it though.  If you know how to open ports on your firewall, the following are the ports that they suggested to me to increase my download speed.

    6112-6128  and 3427

If your going to do this, just make sure you close them afterwords.  Do not leave them open, as it could allow hackers to get in.

Dude, Opening a few ports isn't going to get you hacked.

A much faster way would be to get the patch from a download site, such as 3dgamers.com or Fileplanet.

Or you know..if they were a smart developer they'd just patch within the client like you know 99% of MMOs do? Hell I have single player games that have in client patching :P

I think you need to read what I said, I said it COULD get a computer hacked.  The exact purpose of a firewall is to allow and disallow connections to your computer.  If someone gets in your computer, thats how they are going to do it.  No offense, but I dont think your very familiar with the purpose of a firewall. Though very unlikely someone would go after his computer, as he probably has nothing of general interest to the hacker, it does happen.

And then you would have to wait for a long long time to patch it up.. imagine 500000 people trying patching it in at the same time...
