@EveOnline I've made my displeasure at a sham #evetournament this year by contacting the sponsors: bit.ly/jNcm8H bit.ly/kyNR19

Let's tweet up a storm and get as many complaints into the sponsors as possible :-)
For those out of touch: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=channel&channelID=422285 the Alliance Tournament IX was wrecked by several sham matches, cumlulating in one of the most boring and pathetic sham finals I've ever seen in any sport - real or electronic.

Hmmff, I always liked the fact that scams, negotiations and shady deals were part of the alliance tournament (within the bounderies of regulations). It's the same as with the rest of EVE (and for real life for that matter). It gives the tournament a dramatic social aspect with many surprises which I like a lot. No hard feelings about it here.
For a completely fair competition based on skill and talent you'd just have to look elsewhere if that is what you fancy. But personally I like EVE's rotten spots the most.

I agree Eve's metagaming has a place in regular gaming - it's what helps make Eve such a sandbox and player's reputations actually matter. It's great for the community and fits the cold hard world created by CCP for us to play in.
But these tournaments are promted as e-sports events, with rules, sponsors and a lot of cash being thrown around. Surely if nothing else we viewers then deserve not to have a giant finger given to us by the most pathetic sham final match in any sport I've ever seen. I could have handled the obvious backroom dealings and other metagaming going on, if only it had been a straight up fight once the teams warped onto grid. But they couldn't even be arsed to do that much, and CCP don't seem to give a damn.
Well I won't be wasting my time next tournament, and I encourage others to avoid them as well if they wrongly believe they'll see any real competition.
If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.
If it is sponsored and run by CCP then they should do their best to make sure it is run by the rules...this does not always mean fair. If CCP was knowingly allowing people to put fixes in then hopefully the sponsors will pull out for future tourneys till CCP fixes it. If player run then every man for himself.
Here's a thread on Hydra's perspective. http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1531749
Quite a long read but interesting to hear about all the backroom dealing, match fixing, espionage, hidden trainings and forum precautions involved.
The alliance tournament isn't so much an e-sport, it's more like Berlin during the cold war. At least that is how I see it. It's pretty unique. Seems Hydra played most cards right, from match wins to the meta aspect.
So still props from me.

What sham? All I see is they had so many people who wanted to play in the tourny and split alliances. I don't understand why your ****ing about it.
I read their post and it surprised me of all the work they put into it. Amazing.

I thought Alliance Tournament IX was very well done. I liked the way CCP was up front about many things going on in the game, and I thought Hydra was pretty epic. Plus, it's always fun to hear noobs rant about fair fights in EVE.
Really? I couldn't help but notice how CCP immediately switched to other topics after the match, and their lack of publicity after the broadcast ended. I've never seen such disinterest by a company in the outcome of their event. That alone speaks volumes, as will people like me being to bored (at the thought of more sham matches) to watch future tourneys.
If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.
What sham matches? You don't think in other tournys a clan would have fun if they meet up at the finals? They also try to avoid fighting each other. Please explain what you think went wrong.

can someone give me the bottom line as to what happened?
so far I get that an alliance split up and ended up playing themselves at the end and one purposfully lost??
Yep that what happen.

thanks! Thats all I needed to know, didnt really want to read that wall of text.
Its kinda like when Sheumacher and barichello were running 1 - 2 in formula one that time, they wanted to both cross the line but messed it up and barichello won when actually it should have been Shumacher.
meh...
seems recently the Eve community just wants to bitch about everything, even though, out of all the gaming communitys they get the best deal.
Sandbox. Deal with it.
If you dont like what PL or Hydra our Outbreak did in game, feel free to inflict in game consequences upon them.

Somewhat surprised, but very pleased to read this from you.
Give me liberty or give me lasers
*coughs* That is exactly what I thought too, hehe.

The ones where people screwed arround, brought comedy fits, threw the match, and generally didn't play to win? There were several of them, including the sham final. Maybe you shouldn't comment on something you've not even watched. Just saying...
If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.
Are you new to watching Alliance Tournments? Have you never heard or seen this before? IAC got paid several billion isk to purposely throw a match a few years ago. There are many, many shady or unscrupulous things that have happened prior and during the tourneys.
You crying about it and asking others to send emails and tell them we hate what happened..is...is..nevermind..just biomass your character. No, I don't want your stuff. Just biomass it. I am wondering if you are just trolling for a response from all the people that actually enjoyed the tournament like I did.
On a side note...I want to know who hacked Teala's account and typed that wonderfully written response earlier in this thread. I thought for a minute I fell asleep and struck my head on the keyboard and was dreaming.

So which alliance tournament are we talking about again... 'cause maybe you shouldn't comment on something you've not even watched before...
And who hijacked Teala...
For people who have watched the tournament for years like me this is par for the course. Meta gaming IS a part of the alliance tournament and always has been. I wouldnt have it any other way. The two teams who made it to the finals worked hard to face each other.
congratz to Hydra Reloaded.

Any person who expresses rage and loathing for an MMO is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae.
Voltron, Black legion, Pandemic legion, Razor, Wildly Inappropriate, Outbreak, and Hydra all had really strong teams, and that’s not counting Perihelion and Paisti, that both made it to the quarter finals. There were a lot of really good matches in this tournament.
Pandemic created a new Caldari rush set up that had never been seen before.
Hydra beat Razor while facing a hard counter. (You try training to the level it takes to do that)
I’m sorry dude, but that’s not bad.
Plus, not that it matters, but I do believe Hydra when that say they tried to put on a real match, but Outbreak wouldn’t go along when it was clear Hydra was going to lose. That’s exactly what it looked like to me.
I really enjoyed the tournament. If I hadn't I would say so.
If anything I'm going to send a compliment to the sponsors of this tourny. I've thanked God many times for EVE existing simple to keep these crazy fuckers out of the games I'm playing.
kudos EVE players your game is crazy as hell! I'm just not crazy enough to hang in there with you all.
Hehehe...nobody. I may have my opinions on certain things, but one thing I cannot stand is people trying to make a big issue out of a none-issue and the tournament is what it is. It has been that way for years. Meta-gaming is as big a part of the EVE tournament as the matches themselves. BTW - did you see the comment over on the Alliance Tourney Forum from one of the Circle of Two players ragging on Hydra and Outbreak, yet Co2 and Wild Boars tossed a match and spent 15 minutes in a conga line. Great. What about that team that was bought of by the other for 500mil to self destruct and yet people make a big stink about Hydra and Outbreak. ::shakes her head:: Sad I tell you.
