i am a old DAOC/UO vet and alot of the games are just crap until i found a game.

i got passed the old reviews and people that used to play it years ago and found a game that is very good and has a good community.

at first the community seemed not want anything to do with me but thats becouse they were scared i might not stay after the trial. but right when i sub to the game the flood gates opened up and i got legion invites people asking me if i am good and needede anything.

i have only seen a community like this in the before time.  might of just been my server or i was on at the right time but i loved it and so i am going to stay there who knows maybe this hidden gem will get some of you also!

if so let me know and i will help you out as well.

the game is called AION and its awsome

toons name_setsua

server siel

faction-elyos

anyone want info i can give some but iam still pretty new to the game

oh and they have updated the game alot and fixed alot of things. and still updateing as we speak

Aion is a good game. But, I am liking other MMO's (Lotro) better. If they introduce player housing like they have promised, I might try it again.

aion fails at high lvl. And now might fail at mid lvls. Grind 10000 balaur for 1 try that fail most time :D

Good you took elyos. Elyos side is easier.

i never got into houseing but would be somehting i would get into if they did it in aion as well. but right know i think there trying to even things out and speaking with the community to see whats good/bad.

but if i get asked i will ask about houseing for you ^_^

i agree, OP.  i was (am) very impressed with aion now, to me it's either the best themeparkish mmo or tied with LOTR.

    I'm Anastasio on Zikel-asmo btw.

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

awsome ^_^ i almost went asmo but my wife loves stuff that looks beautfiul *thats why she loved her elf in LOTRO* so she went elyos. who knows maybe i might go asmo sometime

Reason they are easier is that they got open space zones and more bosses. At asmo side you basicly have to fight your way throu zones.

Keep going, I hope you have lots of fun :) Which reminds me to cancel my own aion account. I never seem to be able to level through the mid 30's. Everything seems to grind to a hault, and I get no sense of progression. Only grind. And so the time between log-in's grow longer and longer, and suddenly I realized its been like 2 months since I logged in.

A "hidden gem", definitely in the vein of  "UO/DAOC".

It's amazing that such a labour of love, such an original masterpiece of original, non-compromising gameplay concepts is not more played here in the west.

    Jeez...

thats weird they would make it like that. poor asmos but then again if you look at there story/culture  there suppose to be strong and fearless as to were the elyos are beautiful and spoiled

asmos-hard life but stranger and more richer feeling

elyos-easyer life but weaker and less riching

    thats how i see it

Im actually sorry I mentioned my own dull relationship with AION. Your OP was to share your enthusiasm about finding a new gem of a game, discovering all it's secrets and stuff with the community. I didnt mean to trample on that, and I am quite sure alot of people will have a GREAT time discovering the big and very nice world of Aion. The game is doing quite well.

I did. Got really hyped, pre-ordered it and said "vaya con dios" around lvl 15.

Love the style, love the setting and I even love some of the concepts (2+1 factions sound great.. IF implemented correctly).

Dreadful shame it's inextricably based on the terrribly horror-dreadful primitive RPG concepts that eastern MMOs don't seem to be able to get rid of - namely the linearity , the grind and the hideously steep char power curve (you're 3 levels off and you DIE). Dreadful. I'd love to play it if it were based on a different underlying character progression system  (aka "RPG system" in old pnp parlance).

The core underlying systems are hopelessly flawed (at least for me). It's such a shame considering I loved the graphics, loved the whole angels-vs-demons thing and I liked the general weirdness of the setting. It would have been a total win for me if it wasn't based on such terrible basic principles.

If you took Aion world and graphics and combat mechanics and put it in some different game paradigm (even an lobby-arena-dungeon system ffs!) you'd probably have more success. This "grind to power" is sooo.... dunno. Crap. Such a shame. Sorry. Be consoled that this is not the only promising game in the last five or so years that failed because of this.

/p.s. Not to say you're "not allowed" to enjoy it. Have a ball, as well as any others who dig it. (It really is a beautiful game in many aspects). I just got really disappointed. Dunno. Guess my experience made me bitter that you could have such fantastic PnP RPG concepts back in the days and nowadays it's  "grind the levels" thing we used to laugh at back in the old days. Sadly, mainstream MMOs are in many, many ways a huge step back in RPG game design. Guess the players got blinded by flashy gfx and story and the design concepts got sidetracked. A shame. I suppose in 5 to 10 years the devs will "rediscover" some of the forgotten things from the golden age of RPGs.

The game its not a fail, it have less people in the west (true), but in asia its the top played game, by far.

The linearity on quests are there, but its the awfull RNG (manatones, enchantment and the godstones proc) that bash the game interest, you need luck on most of the top things you will get and that its not enjoyable comcept to play a mmo.

Anyway im playing the game (for the 4rd try), and im feeling interested.
