i have been playing this since closed beta.Fluxii is correct in beta it was buggy as hell.but i can assure people it is not now.personally HW have done a remarkable job getting this up to scratch.has for content.there are an additional 10 lvls to be implemented really soon, also another 10 lvls after that.if your one of those guys that likes to get to max lvl in 4 days then maybe this is not for you.biut tthis game is very different.i find myself stopping and just staring at all the statues, envoiroment, everything really.this game has got a lot of things going for it.if all your interested in is amazing gfx ,also this game is not for you.but the storyline and the mythology have me drawn in.and to me thats more important than gfx imo.dont get me wrong ,the gfx are fine in this game..just not eye popping.estate system is taking shape..not to mention working out which are the best combination of minions to use.quite frankly i,m having a blast.if your up for something completely different than your usual mmo, then maybe give this a try.
Ill give this game a couple of months then ill try

I'm not a fan of Anthony Castoro. He called himself "Sunsword" when he drove UO into the ground.
That said, I'd be willing to try this game out as a F2P... but box + sub? Are you kidding me?
Any small/indie developers who go this route nowadays come across as money grabbers. Because they know their game isn't good enough to keep players beyond the box purchase...
Will be interesting to see what kind of subs they get. Whether they can hold water long enough to patch the holes.
Folks are suggesting F2P right away, but it might be possible that they have to close down shop long before going the F2P direction, if the subs just don't bring in enough money to make the change to F2P with cash shop.
Sounds like another game not ready for launch but being launched anyways. Crafting, auction house and PvP are still in the works. However it is still "a full MMO experience." I don't think so.
The game is fun....... more than can be aid for most MMOs at this point in time.

I played the beta for about a week. I got busy with work didnt play a few days and never felt the urge to go back. For me it was just another quest grind with a slightly different veneer. Everything linear..the only thing different were the minions and even that was kinda boring after a while.
In short you know a game will be a flop when they cant give away 5000 open beta keys on this website. The keys sat there for at least a month. There only chance is the game becomes a niche game with just enough audience to pay back thier investment. Since I dont know how much this dev company put into the game that is hard to tell whether it happens or the company quickly goes out of business and one of the big publishers scoops the thing up for pennies on the dollar while it slowly languishes.

Could you expand upon this? What exactly did he personally do to ruin UO? Just curious.
I was in the beta since August last year and the game has definitely improved a lot since then. However, it was always unstable on my PC, I couldn't play for more than about half an hour at a time without a crash. I used to leave it for a month or so at a time before trying again but it was still the same the last time I tried, which was a few months ago. I lost interest in G & H when Rift came out so am not up to scratch with final beta improvements but it certainly didn't seem anything like ready for launch last time I did log on.
I wish it well though, the Roman setting and having the minions does give it some originality.
Originally posted by Mimzel Im sorry but my first associations are to FFIX. When I read its gonna be a full mmo experience, I thought to my self "Why would they say that? If they have to point it out, its something fishy going on here". Then I read about 2 classes not ready for launch, several dungeons not ready, and then I just gave up reading. I read in the comments above that AH isnt implemented by launch. Sorry folks, this is not going to work. There are so many similar mmos out there with which this particular one will compete. You cant afford to do these mistakes. I think there are too many dumb publishers/developers that have serious learningproblems. I was hoping FFIX would statute an example, but not to these guys obviously...This isnt a game I will be trying.
Game has lots of potential, i'm enjoying what it has, but most in my guild intend to resub only after pvp/crafting/more lvls are added, we want the game to do well, as even in the face of the great mmos to come it can offer unique things.
It has to stop ... my onlly real way to protest is with my money .. Your not getting any of it with a release like that .. and neither did FF14 ... maybe the player base is getting smarter afther all ? The FF14 game has all but gone belly up, as Most players found that game not enjoyable and it felt so unfinished, that no amount of promises would keep us.
Here I go again ... Goodbye this time for real.
If only games that were 100% ready for release were released then we would all be playing Wow, FPSes and console games.
These guys don't want to release games that are not finished but for some reason it happens, for the betterment of the genre instead of expecting all singing and dancing games at release we should support the likes of Heatwave. How have actually provided an excellent game here.
It pains me that people who think they know so much about MMOs are only out for their instant gratification. And don't be so sure that genre's don't die, the sim market has more or less died, with only one producer left, but i guess these guys don't really care anyway.
OK ... I played it for about 2-3 hours last night ... and you know, its not that bad. A little buggy, but it runs well enough.
The graphics, IMO are not nearly as bad as some have suggested; yeah, for sure they are dated; but they are well done. I really like the character animations! My gladiator moves and fights realisticly (looking) ... I have gotten so used to my toon moving like he had a stick up his arse, this was quite refreshing. I just started getting into the minion system, but running around with my first minion was fun ... I enjoyed the new game setting and overall had pretty darn good time.
If they are going to last any time at all, they need to launch the crafting, pvp & auction pretty quick. And, ultimately I would not be surprised if this gets picked up by a F2P puplisher ... but for the time being I am going to have some fun leveling to max ... And hopefully, there is some patching during that time ... If the company looks to be responsive (as they can be with their limited staff) I may stick around for a couple of months just to see what happens.
So, what I took away from the article is, 'here's another MMO thats not ready to be released, but we're releasing it anyway... we'll finish it later on down the road.....'
"Part of the player feedback that was implemented into the launch of the game from beta.......
corpses glow when loot is available .... text feed that tells you how much you picked up"
Really? Really really? They needed player feed back to add that? Am I the only one that finds that silly?

I can sum up the worst of it in one phrase: Age of Shadows.

Why yes he did. Intriguing concept, but this is a man I would most assuredly NOT buy any product he is part of. Sunsword was nothing but bad news for UO; he is now gunking up other games imo.
i've played the alpha of this... uninstalled 2 days later. tryed the 2nd beta... same result. why would i even bother? unfinished graphics and animations, terrain looks like one of those picture books that you open up and things pop out of it, it has monsters that are quite unrealistic (medusa and minotaurs in rome? seriously? who the hell taught u latin mythology? the janitor?) and overall the game feels like a grindfest with a roman theme tied to it. that, poor description on quests, no real effects (at least when i played) and from what i see from those pictures, no real change either. so my question remains: why would any self-respecting gamer above the age of 10 would even bother?
It is not ready but they release it. No auction in a game that is going to have an auction (system) ? released >??
No crafting in a game that is going to have Crafting ? Released ?
No PvP in a game that is Going to have PVP ? Released ?
PvP changes the entire dynamics of character strengths and weaknesses and has to be balanced and tested and balanced again, almost with out exception changing how players characters act in PVE ... and this game is released with NONE of this balance and testing done now ?
HA ... released game ? This is Beta with months and months of major changes to how the game plays for every player class comming.
Look at how barren the world looks ? Unless these screenshots are from alpha stages of the game there is a total lack of world filler in place .. the tufts of grass looks as though the land was cut open like a sheet of paper and a flat green grass picture stuck in. No rocks or stones or dead branches in wooded locations .. desert pic has no mounds of sand or anything to make the FLAT plain barren land look like it might sorta Be Real.
I am not dogging on the Graphics I am talking about the Lack of Clutter in the world for a better way to describe it. The city pic is empty .. where are the crowds of people npc or player. where is the stalls and the dogs and cats and children ? everything looks so sterile and plain from all the pics I have seen ..
This type of world does not even draw me into it .. I have no desire to see more of it based on what is shown in these pics. Really ? This is your best foot forward ? The players characters do not even appear to be standing ON The Ground ? Looks like they are floating just above the ground ..
In a year maybe if your still around I will look at it again. Maybe by then you will have gained some good world creaters that can bring life and breath into your sterile world for players to enjoy. The way it looks now? Bland and Blah blah blah .. Meh .. (what ever those words mean)
Shame on you for releasing a Beta on the populace .. OF COURSE you can have more content comming out after Release .. that is expected and wanted by the players ... who does not want that ??
BUT to have the Baisics of your game NOT IN THE RELEASE ???? Shame shame .. PVP >. Crafting > Auction > and more ? as I have not played the game I am going by others who express the frustrations as well, in a NOT READY to release game.
You talk about Loot in the interview and how important you feel that to be, in the fact that it Means something to the player and yet do not offer them an auction House ? In some Near Future patch it might get added ? Your talking out the side of your mouth when you say stuff like that and the actions say No No No .
I am sorry this got so long winded. I get on a rant when I see crap like this shoved down the throat of the player community and people think it is Ok and alright that it happens.
Buy a new model car from some company and then after you buy it find out that the heater and winshield wipers are going to be added into the car in a later date .. to be announced .. or that the rear seat is only a cardboard cut out of what is comming in a later version of the vehicle ... Does it make sense ? Of course not .. nobody would buy something that is NOT COMPLETE or with promises to be Right in some part of the future.
Yet game company after Game company Crams that same type mentality down our throats release after Release.
It has to stop ... my onlly real way to protest is with my money .. Your not getting any of it with a release like that .. and neither did FF14 ... maybe the player base is getting smarter afther all ? I totally agree with you. Gamers are sick of this and companies need to take notice. There is a reason so many MMO's are going to pay-to-play.
Do companies like this have their heads stuck so far up their backsides that they believe they can release an incomplete game into the modern world of MMO's that have 100+ F2P & Freemium complete games for $50. The video promoting Heatwave Interactive to prospective investers is laughable and boils down to the fact that if they can blindside a person into buying one of their products thats good business, how about making a great product in the first place and let it sell on its quality and build your company from there? like Blizzard, Bioware, Creative Assembly, Turbine, Perfect World and many others do. I feel that this is just the first stage, get innocent/naive people to pony up for a few months through Steam and similar digital marketplaces and then go Freemium, I think we should get used to this new "business model" over the next few years.

I BETA'd this and I usually try not to say ill things of games, but it was horrible. Play at your own risk.

Final Fantasy 9?
What are you talking about?
"TO MICHAEL!"
I was impressed in the beta
The estate is a really nice feature and see a lot of potential
Biggest drawback is the content I want to play this game it has a good feel But I will wait for 6 months or so

Why do all new mmo's have to be $50 for box sells and $15 a month charge.
Are all cars sold for the same price? Hell are potato chips the same price?
If your game is below par of what is out there then price it accordingly. Unless you think this is actually on par with WOW, Rift, an so on.
But from reading the posts here maybe you should actually finish the game or come close before asking for money.
I can sum up the worst of it in one phrase: Age of Shadows.
