1.3 Seems to Have Increased Graphics and Performance

baritone3kbaritone3k Member Posts: 223

I just reupped a few days ago and I noticed that yesterday after the patch the game seems to be prettier and smoother.

The game is gorgeous right now - the plate armor is top notch.

It also seems that the ugly highlight thing isn't constantly on my target unless I have the mouse scrolled over it.

Has anyone else noticed any unannounced improvements?

Someone please make a good MMO.

You can always turn off that highlight feature.  I can't stand it.

I played for several hours after teh patch went live and did notice a marked improvement in performance... though I have an older PC and have to run in standard "high" settings for it to be playable, I did notice a difference.

I didnt know that increased graphics and performance can co-exist in a game AT THE SAME TIME.... image

My account accidently re-subbed so i took a peak and yes your right, the first thing i noticed was a char with plate looking much better. Never got into the game to try it out though, the Dungeon finder turned me off of the game immedietely upon hearing it had been implimented.

lol people quit games because of a SINGLESHARD dungeon finder? how does that decrease you're enjoyment at all? You must've not liked the game in the first place to quit over something as petty as that.

It's because people enjoy spamming for a group instead of a convenience having the server find a group for you so you could enjoy the content.

Dungeon fnder has never worked out for me. I que up, and wait like 30 mins, before logging off. Granted I am a dps and level 26. I'd be happy with cross server ones if they would speed the process up. Although WoW isn't any better.

Yes, the plate armor looks amazing now. Wasn't expecting a graphical update, pleasantly surprised.

It all looks great, though my server, Faeblight, is definitely experiencing some lag issues on the server-side.  Dunno if it is on every server, but others in my guild and in game are having the same issues.

I've played continuously since release.  I've noticed no visual improvements with 1.3.  I've also started crashing once a day since the new patch :(

just resubbed to the game for another month and so far.. i have noticed some graphical improvements, no crashes as yet.. but those could be individual hardware problems (some games work better with certain types of graphics gpu's etc nvidia/ati etc) running it on high with a nvidia 260 gtx.. not exactly awesome framerate (30-40) but.. it does look good image

Graphics have increased i can tell you that much.. I wear plate armor and it actually looks like plate armor now, not just some leather-look-alike.. It actually has knashes and looks like worn down metal..

With that said i keep getting random lag spikes.. I did an invasion today with 200+ players involved and it ran like a champ.. Then later i go into sanctum and d/c every few mins, had to turn my comp down to min and it still d/c'd and lagged.. I relogged later and it was ok.. So idk what's going on but it's starting to annoy me pretty badly lol

I haven't noticed much improvement, but I haven't noticed any lag either.

It's weird because I see people claim both.

Might be because my rig is already running very well, so it's not going to see much improvement or lag either way.

I do see more people (about 3 to 1) complaining about lag vs performance increase though.

I doubt any graphical improvements were made. It was in the patch notes that plate armor recieved more "shiny". They may have improved performance... that's usually not something that's put into patch notes. But one thing to keep in mind is that performance and graphics go hand in hand... if they did increase performance then maybe that is what you're noticing and not graphical.

I remember doing some of the emotes on my plate-wearing male human and seeing PLATE stretch along with the movements as if it were leather.
That made me frown irl so much...anyways, did they "fix" that?

First thing I noticed after loading up my character selection screen, shiny armor.

    Cool.

Second, I was also put off by the dungeon finder.  I'm not looking for some ignorant A-hole to come along and be sarcastic about me not liking convenience either.  It is convenient, I have no issues with that.  The problem is, convenience can go too far for a lot of people.  It's one thing to create a tool to find a group, great in my opinion.  It's another thing entirely to create a tool that not only does that, it teleports your entire group into the instance.  Thus, basically eliminating any chance for dynamic content on the way to said dungeon.  It directly destroys the world in which Trion worked so tirelessly to build for us.  Now we just teleport everywhere.  It was the same in WAR.  One of the major things I didin't like in WoW.  I like travelling, I like the unknown.  I guess I'm more of an old school player, but I require more to my games than repeatable instanced content.  There needs to be reason for actions, reactions, discovery..even after you've been there 100 times before.  These games are slowly going away from traditional creativity that you found in games like Ultima Online, Dark Age of Camelot, and Everquest.  From social gaming that depended on player content, rather than relying on the developer for everything.  They are turning into little more than Call of Duty, but in a fantasy setting.  If you can't understand where I'm coming from with that, you should probably just quit life.  I may not agree with everyone all the time, but I can usually take a step back and 'get' what they are saying..even if I think it's crazy.

So true. What happened to gamers (some not all) actually wanting a challenging game, and not one that just hands stuff to you or just makes it waaaaay to easy to get.

I remember in vanilla WoW how much it actually MENT to get an epic or to win a roll when in a raid for a drop. It felt more...well EPIC. now its like "Oh cool ANOTHER epic". but thats just an example and now trend it seems. Just because I play casually with a side of hardcore{grins}, does not mean I want things to be more easy so I can stay ahead of the curve.

Before LFD was added in RIFT:

Guy shouts 'Dungeon group running dungeon, LFM'. Group is made. One person is in Droughtlands. Two people are in Meridian. One person is in IPP. One person says "I'm near the entrance, I'll ride there and port us.". Person near the dungeon entrance goes inside, all other members get activation notice and asking them are they ready to enter the dungeon. People click "Yes" and instantly transported INSIDE the dungeon.

After LFD was added in RIFT: One person is in Droughtlands. Two people are in Meridian. One person is in IPP. Another person is in Shimmersand. Everyone as individuals queue for dungeon with LFD, group is made and everyone is instantly transported INSIDE the dungeon.

What's the difference? What world did Trion work so tirelessly to show you before LFD?

Unless you want to be the person in the group who actually is the one to go into the dungeon first so everyone else can teleport there, I'm not sure what the complaint is here.

I still don't understand how a LFG tool is gonna change anything for anyone.. If you don't like it then fine, just spam the general chat.. It's a SINGLE SHARD looking for group tool.. So if you get some random a hole rolling on everything you can inform his Guild and blackmark him for the rest of the server.. There's no difference between the LFD tool saves you a bunch of time, but if you don't want that convenince then don't use it.. Dosn't mean people who do should be punished..

I for one was against a cross server LFD tool but now i'am willing to comrpromise if it means quicker que times.. In the earlie mornings a lot of my guild isn't on so it'd be nice to have another pool of people to que up with besides those on my shard.

I have also had a lot more issues crashing out post 1.3. The visuals still look the same as well.

This is what I belive DAS1337 ment by a feeling of CoD black ops  or other online lobby games. The One Man entering an instance and the rest of the party getting a summons is pretty much similar to other abilites other classes get in other games, except most of the time it requires more than one person to do. Queing up and waiting for a ramdom party to be thrown together to do said dungeon eliviates the risk of any harm. So in one sense adding these types of mechanics into an mmo just makes it one big Diablo/Dungeon crawler imo. Sure it may be convenient but thats what honestly ruining the genre. Conveenince is nice, but to much is like being spoon feed  ( no dis to you or anyone who likes these mechanics just my opinion)

    It's a dishonest position though.

In RIFT, there are NO classes that can teleport anyone. None of all those souls and there's a reason for that. There is also a reason that feature is only on dungeons and ports you have to pay to use.

When one person rides to a dungeon in RIFT, they go in and all members are asked "Do you want to teleport to Dungeon X?"

Now I personally have never been in a group in RIFT (two 50s) where we had a party and people were in there waiting and someone said:

"Guys, I'm going to ride there because I want to keep my immersion and spirit of the game. I'll be there in about 20 minutes." I'm pretty sure if that happened we would have kicked whoever that was, no matter what job they did. That's just retarded thinking. Playing with someone who'd do that would make me wonder if he'd refuse to do something in the dungeon we asked because it would 'break lore'.

The LFD tool does exactly what Trion had in place except it gets groups together faster and without spamming and immersion breaking others fun over chats for 20 minutes.

This has got to be one of the weakest arguments I've ever heard for not having this tool, simply because they were already teleporting people to dungeons since Beta just by walking inside them.
