So, I'm normally not one for throwing ideas out there, buyt this one has been nagging at the back of my mind for the past week or so....
I've been watching some PAXe11 and GDC footage, and everytime I see a ranger in the starting zone, I can only go 'ugh' at the longbow. This got me thinking - for the inital character creation, why not add a starting weapon select? I know I'm planning on ditching the longbow at the first available opportunity for a shortbow, but why make me (or anyone else for that matter) wait?
I am going to post this on gw2guru, but thought I'd throw it out here first...

I like it, I know Elementalist have a few choices such as staff, wand, dagger etc etc....
Some people may prefer wand over staff so why not let them start with it.
first, seriously? you can get through a short tutorial using a weapon you would prefer not to use? At the end of the tutorial (in the demos at least, you could pick 2 weapons to use as a reward.
I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.
So, why not? Several classes have upwards of 8 weapons available to them, not including MH/OH (dual wielding) combinations. Why shouldn't players be allowed to pick up their desired build at the start of the game?
edit: hell, it could even be a blub in the personal story. 'blahblahblah, with my trusty <weapon> in hand, blahblah'
This is no doubt, the most dastardly thing that any game company could do. I suggest a strong email campaign to NCsoft expressing the disappointment that the players feel about this.
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.
Though it does make some sense...
I don't want the dev to spend valuable time on adding weapon selections when I can just swap weapons within 10 minutes playing. And though it may seem easy and all that, I still would prefer that I waste 10 minutes (technically I'm not wasting time, just spending time with a different weapon.)
But eventually people will ask for a level 2 weapon since we trade out for level 2 weapons within 15 minutes of playing.
So yea, its good, but should be towards the end of the to-do list.
