I've been loosely following this game, but it appears to have a huge amount of possible story lines and content. I feel like it would make a better console game for this reason. With MMOs it is difficult to do in depth stories that function in the gaming world simply due to the make up and amount of players. The faction thing puts it in the MMO world, but I still see this as a possible a huge console release in one form or another. Maybe it could do both, but I don't see it lasting for the long term in the MMO market. What do you think?
By console release I also mean PC gaming as well, just not as a MMORPG.

Are you being serious? I don't associate complexity with consoles in the slightest. TSW will be a PC MMO and that won't change, nor should it.
The MMO market is currently stale if games not yet released aren't taken into account and the gamers are crying out for new and more complex games to get their teeth into. Assuming that Funcom take their time with it, TSW has the potential to be a great success.
Sure I'm serious. In console gaming, cut scenes, cinematics, and overall story is able to be used in a more movie like script oppose to MMOs. I think anyone that has played MMOs for a long time can agree on that fact. MMOs don't allow for story no matter how hard they try. Complexity can be viewed in too many ways. I don't argue that MMOs aren't more complex in terms of gameplay, but as far as story I don't see it. Lore and stories can be put out to read that help with the story, but for the most part you don't have your raid cut with cinematics or anything like that in order to develope the story deeper.
I just think it has some interesting story lines after watching the recent developer video that was released and I feel that it would be difficult to really bring those stories to life in an MMO because of all the other concerns that they have to be aware of in MMOs.
you never fought lich king did you?

The correct answer is 'Yes, but why would they want to?'
Currently Watching: TSW. << Very Eager for a Beta invite. Have experience with Beta Testing.
Not personally a big fan of raiding or current pve endgame mmo philosophy. Nothing wrong with it, I just sort of burnt out on it.
Hardcore raider in wow from Launch to.. about 7 months ago.
Currently Playing: Champions Online.
Fair enough. I can agree with that opinion.
I think the reasoning behind why people think story and cutscenes don't work in an MMO is two fold
First off there are a ton of people so it's much easier to see that your sharing the same quests/lore/fights as other people, while this remains true in consoles it's much harder to see, or at least isn't so darn visable.
Second is that it's never really been done. The closest we get to cutscene is when the game starts off and it flys over a piece of land and zooms in on your character while a VO tells a brief history of the people ala WoW.
We are going to see over the next year or so if a large emphasis on story works in an MMo or not. but seeing as it's not really been done too much before we can't really use past experience to say it won't work in an MMO. The best control we have is text box showing a story and a list of things you can do. Most stories are a few quests long. Story in MMOs haven't really been a pillar, just something to support gameplay. Not gameplay that supports story.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
Both.
I'd love to play with my console buddies and have an option to play on a PC with an xbox controller.
