Okay... So the Dark and Light beta winners are announced tonight and....
You don't win. (pretend)
What a let down, cuz' dammit you never win anything. Kinda like me. I swear if I went to the service station and bought a one dollar scratch off lottery ticket, then I'd friggin' scratch off "You OWE $50.00" three times !! 
So, you don't win let's say... then let's pretend you are cruising this sight and see a new Dark and Light post saying that someone is selling their rights to a Dark and Light beta account that they won over on another website. ...And there is a link. an Ebay auction. Also let's pretend there's fresh news come out that Dark and Light will not be released until early 2006. So a year or more you'll have to wait now.

No way I would pay to test a beta. They are already saving tons of money by having free beta testers.
Problem is though, a lot of "beta" testers look at this as an opportunity to play a game, when the fact it, you are donating your time to find bugs and help the company create a better product.
I think this is why many players say, the beta sucks, lag, bugs, this that and the other thing. LOL point is that is what you are suppose to find, not just play a game
I think it would create the mentality, I am paying you to test your beta, so things should work smooth.

I think I´d pay to test it, but not a lot. Maybe 10 bucks. Mainly because It´ll take a lot to release and 10 buck for a lot of months it´s a good price, but I agree with Morrigan, the best thing in being a tester is to be able to change a game, or to make it better, looking for new bugs, giving your ideas and saying the good and bad things about the current stage of a game.
But this can be fun sometimes, so I´d pay a few bucks.

Okay, okay... So as expected most people are saying that they wouldn't pay a damn dime to play the Dark and Light beta for a year in that little situation I gave. (Even though I think some people are just following the bandwagon and won't admit that they'd actually fork over atleast a lil cash if they are even half way anticipating this game)
So let's change the situation just a tad for a new poll then...

if i didnt like the game and i won an account i would sell on ebay, you see those wow open beta that were being sold for like 50? i think u would get a pretty penny for an account if u didnt like the game
PS:ive heard alot about the game but ive never read anyhting on the battle system, is it real time?
and what stops them from posting it from a secondary account on a different ip address, say a friends computer? or their parents? once the auction is advertised they don't need the account anymore, no one knows the name, etc. Someone wants to sell the beta more power to em, I personally don't care... especially since there is no real way to stop it. Some auction sites won't cancel auctions.

How are you going to "punish" them? Which party will even know unless they *buy* it and after the funds are transfered do you *really* think the person would care?

You are missing 2 options from your poll.
1) You'd give it away for free if you were not going to use it (which is what I would do)
2) The cost would be the persons legs. I did see someone willing to give those away.

By the way, I was the one willing to give my legs for a DnL beta account. If mmorpg.com doesn't pull through, I'll be chopping the limbs tonight. Free shipping and handling, if anyone is interested. I'll ship them in a cooler with ice, so they'll be nice and fresh.

No one said this was an easy task. There's no gaming company that can stop this kind of thing, but it can be discouraged. If the account being traded is identified, then there is no problem to take action. Accounts can be closed down and it's owner can be prosecuted, should the gaming company have suffered damage and should they be able to prove it in court.
Example: Many of you have probably heard about how Lineage 2 is overrun with 'illegal' third party programs and adena farmers. NCSoft has closed a number of accounts belonging to players using such programs and indulging in such activity. They can far from catch everyone, but those who are caught face action from the gaming company.
