I know I don't want a beta invite, but I couldn't ignore it if an invite ended up in my inbox either. I just know I wouldn't take it seriously enough to improve the state of the game over just goofing around and seeing how it's turning out. That's no reason to beta test it and I know I'll enjoy the game more when they deem it ready for release, but patience is just a bitch sometimes lol
Wow! I been through a lot of bad betas! I been through some not so bad beta too. Oh, and I been through very nice betas (oh how rare they are). I have been spent many of hours waiting for servers to come back just for them to crash again in the first five mins. I have spent months in betas and had the game tank not to long after release.
I was lucky. I was able to get into SWG beta early(phase 2 I think) when there was only few systems and I played all the way to NGE.
After all the ups and downs; I can say I'm more than ready to jump right into Old Republic beta today.
Yes yes, I'm sure you're all very diligent testers and shining examples of humanity's finest and brightest.
Personally, I would only enter the beta to satisfy my curiosity and see if it lives up to the hype. And offer feedback on stuff I stumbled across while just playing the game of course, since I am a meddlesome elitist bastard convinced that my opinion is the most important at any given time and on any given subject, but still - I'm in it for my own selfish reasons. I'm in it to have fun.
Realy looking forward to release of old republic , and if i should get invited i will try to stick with my least prefered class to help for beta stuff. In general i dont tend to overplay betas since i want that fresh feel of a mmo at launch .
I have signed up for the BETA, but sadly got no invite. I have worked in the gaming industry and understand what it takes to assist the development team. It is fun to do in my opinion and actually like it. I agree though, that most people think it is just sign up for it and play a bit to see if they like it.
When I was in the industry myself, I even found the ALPHA tests fun... Character floating around the screen as there were no leg or arm animations, then walking through walls etc... It was fun to see the development from where it was to where it ended up.
My reasons for wanting into a beta are generally my own but it all boils down to one thing. I do not like bugs, flaws, or errant issues in my games. Lately most people like you have said just run around in a Beta and do not even bother reporting anything through the proper channels. most people just run around in world local chat complainging about the bugs like it will do anything to help them.
I have personally had the pleasure of working in alpha process testing, F&F beta, and closed beta. I have also had to help fix IT problems on one game in particular because they blackholed the internal IP for the world server during closed beta. I know a closed beta is usually not a place to help craft the actual game but assist in the dev teams vision of what the game should be...
So to answer your first question. Yes, Yes i would like to work on SW:ToR Closed Beta am I holding my breath no. Simply put you guys have a giant pool of people who would like to get in. Whether or not those people have the dedication discipline and understanding of what they are expected to do is another question to be asked.

And I'm not afraid to admit it.

Yes, I really do.
I've beta tested games before and have even volunteered to work as a guide for a couple of MMOs. I'm just that kind of guy that likes to be a "fixer".
