I was one of the original opponents of the NGE.
Hell, I wrote the big takedown for this site on the NGE after their editors read some of my critques of the NGE when it launched.
That being said, I still remember this game fairly.
Few games did what SWG did. They introduced a lot of things that later MMO's copied. In spite of all its problems, I enjoyed it unlike anything else.
I've since "retired" from gaming, and probably won't be around when SW:TOR comes out. In the end, I'll remember SWG fondly, even if I was one of the big voices who helped drive a nail into the coffin.
In the end, I'll probably login December 15th (if I can even remember my login name lol) and Ulot will return to ShadowStone on Eclipse (or at least where it once stood) and offer his requiem for SWG.

Sad isnt it! This is why i dontr play games anymore becuase theres nothing like SWG out there. They are all boring within a month and no community!
MMO History: 2528 days in SW:G
I'm not going to get onto SWG just to remember better days in the game, to gloat over its impending demise, or whatever. The game that I once loved to play alongside a great community has been gone since 2005.
I still very vividly remember alot of great experiences and some good friends in that game. To login and see SWG even more NGE-ified after 6 years of its implementation would be disappointing. And if I did login to SWG again, it'd be Ahazi. If it's still there, I can't stand the idea of seeing it as a desolate server again.
Ahazi was once one of the largest servers in the game with a very active community, and I saw it disappear very, very quickly when the NGE came into effect in '05.
Starports? Empty.
Cantinas? Empty.
Medical Centers? Empty.
Player Cities and Vendors / Merchants? No business traffic or empty / gone vendors (became a loot based game when I left). Favorite merchants, all gone, victims of the loot-based switch with the NGE.
Nonexistent PvP; Anchorhead vs Bestine? No more.
Major cities of Coronet, Theed, Mos Eisley, Bestine? Empty of players.
Empty friends list.
Lively, helpful community? Gone.
Why would I want to come back to a game that destroyed all these things alongside a great community that was once there? Don't want to login and see reminders of that.
"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold."
