Blizzard’s Secret Titan Project Labeled a ‘New Casual MMO’

ThomasN7ThomasN7 87.18.7.148Member CommonPosts: 6,690

The people who make MMO juggernaut World of Warcraft have another massively multiplayer online game in the works, a game they're calling Titan for now. Blizzard calls it "awesome" and "ambitious." One analyst calls it "casual."

That would be where the money is.

.. But in a good way.

It'll probably be casual... until you hit the endgame gear-grind.

I can only imagine what this mmo is going to be. Maybe we will get a glimpse of it this year at Blizzcon.

Eh that is where the money is at as someone already said.  Its a losing battle to cater to the hardcore, because they will burn through everything before developers can type the first line of code for the next update, unless they make it super hard, which means anyone who isn't part of a hardcore raiding guild will never see/finish the content.  I am also kind of glad they have not revealed a thing about the game, since games like SWToR reveal something every week(sort of) and the only reply on those forums is anger at the update not being the one they were looking for.

Still I do wonder how many box sales this Titan game is going to get due to it being made by the same company that made WoW and that reason alone.

90% casual, 10% hardcore is probably how it will be, or maybe 95% casual.

As several people already said it is where the money is and Blizzard will need this game to take over after Wow, making it for hardcore fans in that case would be stupid.

But I don't think any Blizzard fans expect a hardcore game, it is not really their style.

    'Within 12 to 24 months'?

Interesting. So, this would mean that Titan arrives in 2012-2013? First half of 2013 at the latest?

They likely won't release any info for a long time. Why? They don't have to! WoW haters are common but I don't think anyone can argue that every blizzard title is true AAA quality.

Warcraft 2, Warcraft 3, Starcraft, diablo, diablo 2... Loved them all and each were considered top of the market in their times...

I personally dislike SC2 but it's still a polished quality remake... Sadly it feels like playing SC1 which I burnt myself out on years ago.

I think Titans biggest competition (as with any game these days) will be WoW... Which they could easily kill.... Pissing some ppl off but gaining tons of subs and moving resources to the new project... If only "new" was the rriving force in this world instead of money....

I wont be playing it or diablo 3, be innovative blizzard dont just milk the casual market. Money shouldnt be the only key factor.

You state you won't play it and then ask Blizzard to be innovative and forget about trying to make a profit.  I am pretty sure Blizzard (and all developers) do not make games without trying to be innovative in some way.  I can't imagine them sitting there saying "well, this would be innovative and we can make it work, but screw the masses."  It's funny how the same crowd screams and yells about delays when a developer wants to get it right, and then screams and yells when games are released "unpolished."

Social gaming is on the up and up. I've alway thought (and still do think) that is the new pie Blizzard will be digging their fingers into. So...World of Farmville. Would not be surprised in the least.

Pure speculation. Blizzard has more security on this puppy then the CIA has with the osama death pictures.Nothing slips out without them letting it slip.

    Odd way to build hype.

you can bet this has mega sandbox features and it's sci-fi as well. still we don't really know but they wait and watch TORs release while they build slow leaked hype.

I thought they said the new mmo wouldn't "compete" with WoW as is.

WoW is "casual".  Nothing new here.

As someone else stated, it will be casual until you hit endgame. Than it becomes hardcore raiding and dungeon grinding.

  • supbrosupbro Member Posts: 327

DOnt forget those exciting things called "dalies", where you grind the same quests forever and call it content.

I'm just surprised there are people who are... surprised Blizzard's upcoming MMORPG title wasn't going to be casual.

    Mass Appeal.

That is the key word of big name MMORPG titles for years now.

"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." Is nobody surprised at that 'it'll likely be released within 12-24 months' statement that was made?

Or does everyone automatically assume that this is just marketing speech and that there's no way that the game will be released within that time period?

The more I look at it, the more 'Starcraft' pops in there, but only through reasons of instinct rather than anything concrete. Still I would be very surprised if it was anything but a Starcraft MMO.

Not really, there's is practicaly no information about this title so i just take the 1 year window statement with a hefty pinch of salt.

Honestly i'm not at all interested in Titan and won't be until i know the setting, mechanics etc. 'Blizzard' just isn't enough for me to get excited about seeing as i like their non MMO games but cannot stand WoW.
