Age of Conan : Unchained... Starting TODAY???

AoC's servers are down, with no prior warning, and as I understand it, this is the big Free-2-play patch! Having seen the cash shop on test live, and assuring myself it's not a game-breaker, I'm excited as heck right now! Could someone try to register an account on register.ageofconan.com to get a confirmation that the full F2P has arrived?

Oh, here's the trailer:

Hmm, that's source to speculation whether TSW's initiated beta testing has allowed FC to move more devs to AoC, because development rate seems to have gone up - that, or a rich uncle gave them money, or they have genetically altered their devs into SPACE MARINES.

The extended downtime is for billing so f2p start tonight.

  • kevjardskevjards Member UncommonPosts: 1,452

i,m pretty sure the first 20 lvls are at least anyways..around tortage

  • ste2000ste2000 Member EpicPosts: 6,194

I will give it another go.

I just hope this isn't going to be like EQ2 Extended where you are forced to subscribe to use basic tools like the AH..............

Not just Tortage... All of Hyboria is open to F2P. That means level 80+. There is a one time fee to enable some of the later endgame raids, and some of the leveling dungeons (which aren't really necessary anymore with the amount of new questing content in the game)

The only open areas you have to purchase is the Rise of the Godslayer expansion. Which I think is just 10$, don't quote me on that though.

And then, "The Savage Coast of Turan" expansion is right around the corner! Swimming in content, we are. I guess they're overcompensating for the launch xD

I've never even considered or looked at this game. What would your recommendations be for me to try it out?

    Thanks in advance :)

  • SagasaintSagasaint Member UncommonPosts: 466

dunno whats the fuss all about. the F2P restrictions are utterly crippling

at 80 you get no raids nor raid equipment, so no way to gear up

even worse, without feat points you are a practice dummy for any paying customer that passes by, feat points make a massive difference.

basically the only thing they are giving for free is the levelling, the boring part of the game. and after 80 you are pretty much forced to pay or give up on the game.

its just a long, long demo, nothing else.

this is by far one of the most beautiful, savage games you can play..you dont need a top spec pc to play it but it looks fantastic if you have one.

Did you even bother to check out what you get for F2P? You do get access to most of the T1 raids - both Yahkmar and Kylikki. The only one that isnt available is Vistrix, and thats only because it ties in with the destiny quest, which leads to the Tier 2 raids - this is for subscribers. And you can get raid gear from those two raid bosses. I think you can even buy T1 gear with the T1 tokens that drop off them (Needs confirmation, but likely).

As for leveling being the boring part of the game, hardly. Leveling is great - heaps of content  and quests to do, and the game looks great. Lots of group dungeons too in the F2P. They also posted they are going to put in a F2P global chat channel for that crowd.

On it being a long, long demo, well, that's sorta the point. You get a s^%t load of content free, and if you don't like it you can walk away. If you want more you can buy parts or sub. Oh, and there are funcom points for subscribers too (Just confirmed recently).

Here's all the stuff that is F2P vs Premium (sub): Free and Premium Content Overview, as well as the latest Community Update.

What about the chat? Can free players not chat? That's just crap...

Please someone tell me there is a catch to this or just a level cap on chatting, like you can't chat in tortage but after you can.

Dead wrong, sir. FunCom have been generous enough to give the F2P players the entire Tier 1 of raids for free, which means if you went for the full set of epics before paying a dime, you've played a free game for 3-5 months, depending on your luck.

Besides... This hybrid model is the most "free" model I've seen from a previous subscription-only game, it sure beats both LoTRo and DDO.

You can't talk in global or send whispers, but I think the LFG chat, which is also global, will be available. They are working on a F2P channel as we speak, by the way. Hipefully, this channel when done will be restricted to level 20+ so we don't get additional gold spammers.

Funny thing is I just paid 15 bucks to reactivate my account last night!

So F2P players don't get feat points? Like your class trees?

Eh? Who told you that? Without feat points I doubt you'd be able to get to level 80, or at least it would be very very hard. Maybe you are thinking of AA (Alternate Advancement) points? Subscribers don't get any of that before level 80 either so that's no biggie.

This might have been already discussed but does that mean the new PVP server is going live tonight as well? please keep me updated if it goes up ill resub to check it out.

  • SagasaintSagasaint Member UncommonPosts: 466

I stand corrected, the addition of the T1 raids makes the game worthwhile in the mid to long run for the PvE crowd.

now the problem is PvP, as I said without (edit: AAs) free players will get smashed into the ground.
