Prime: Battle for Dominus: Classes Q&A

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Prime: Battle for Dominus is setting itself up as a unique three-faction MMO that has landed on a lot of folks' radar recently. Yesterday it was announced that Prime would feature three factions, each with six classes for a total of eighteen classes! MMORPG.com Managing Editor Bill Murphy managed to corner Prime's Sanya Weathers for an exclusive Q&A all about the classes. Check it out and then let us know what you think!

The press release mentions that there will be six classes for each faction, totaling 18. Are these 18 unique classes, or are they more mirrors of each other with some distinctive flair between factions?

Unique mirrors? The archetypes in each faction share some abilities, and others are unique to that faction. So, a Hunter Killer, a Spy, and a Wraith are all stealth classes, and that archetype shares some abilities - but each one has some abilities that are unique to that faction. We were going for unique feel without OMGKILLME balance problems.

Honestly, this game just keeps sounding better and better.   DAoC reminiscent RvR?  YES PLEASE

Try to be excellent to everyone you meet. You never know what someone else has seen or endured.

Agreed. 3 factions. PvP/RvR focused and Sanya. I can't WAIT for this game to be released.

This is a very good interview.  The game sounds promising.  And her several reassurances are sensible.  I'm going to follow the development of this game for sure.

The game and company sounds great. Or, maybe, its just the huge crush I have on Sanya's personality. Or, maybe, both.

Well at least they will get great input from Sanya how to do pvp, what to do and what not to do.  This could be a real sleeper,  the most fun I had with pvp was by far DAoC until they added that extremely long quest chain to be competitive.

Lets see. PvP centric. Balance PvP and pass the results on to PvE. Check this out. PvE/Solo players in majority of MMOs - 40%. PvE/PvP players 30%. PvP and 'other' players - 30%. Suits at Red5 have chosen the PvP/combo group as their central player base with PvP dominating.

I am not passing any judgemen,t just looking over things from interview. Will I be playing Firefall? No. I was just checking out the game here on MMORPG.

The pvp needs to be complex like daoc was, with cc as well, plus at least some of the terraine needs to be open field or rolling hills, with few trees, cliffs, structures, or any other obstructions. Give us wide open territories with which we can show who are the better players.

If 6 or 8 fantastic players can extend and whoop up on a zerg, you're doing it right. I'm not saying that a small group should be able to kill everyone in a zerg, but just at least be able to put up a fight, kill a good number, and possibly escape.

Melee hits should drop casters quickly and interrupt their spell casting. There should be no global cool downs or restrictions on the number of spellbars you can have.

When adjusting spell effects for class balancing purposes, adjustments should be made in very small increments over long periods of time, as opposed to grand changes every few months. "Tweak" the balance between the classes instead of making huge changes constantly, and within a few years, you will probably be pretty close to balanced.

The plus with this game is, it isn't a PvE, dungeon running dominated game. If you want that, there are other mega MMO's to play. The UO, AC, DAoC, Shadowbane, Warhammer crowd will be attracted to this one for the PvP and that suits me just fine.

I've been waiting on another 3 faction PvP-centric game since DAoC. I'm happy to see that Sanya is a part of this one as well.

Had not really heard of this one.

It is now totally on my radar.  Loved DaoC, for some reason the graphics there made me think of GA which I also like and who doesn't want 3-way PvP again, arrrrr!

Persistent 3 faction RvR, not one where the map resets weekly...
