Oh and lets not forget, your class and faction determine what ship you are allowed to live in.
Lame.
You are completely correct. Just like in the lame films, where Rebels couldn't fly Tie fighters, Imperials couldn't fly X-wings, and Han and Chewie didn't rampage around the galaxy in a Star Destroyer.

You mean all those people who own and live in motor homes and big freaking yachts are weird?
I woulda thought owning a ship large enough to live on would be a mark of gratuitious wealth really. At the least a mark of good connections and status in one form or another.
Like other's say, owning a vehicle larger than most people's homes seems like quite the piece to brag over. And there's a lotta people in real life who live in motor homes constantly travelling and what-not.
Comparing a big damn spaceship to a car is, while mildly humorous, a very inaccurate comparision of the purpose and design of the vehicles.
Ok because you are obviously a left wing democrat you can only buy a Toyota Prius and must live in it.
LOL
Btw, people that own yachts and motor homes use them for vaction or travel in 9/10 instances. They have real homes to live in.
You keep changing your argument while ignoring previous refutes. Not only are there more strawman logics than I care to count. This is an example of an ad hominem. You are attacking a person on a presumed position. A poorly associated one at that.
As in you are implying all Democrates would be Left Wing. Which even if were the case, does not mean he is one, nor would it matter to begin with. This isn't a political or idealogical discussion.
This is a good example of creating a topic to garner responses while planning to discuss with multiple unreasonable positions, further confusing the root of all the mayhem.
Also, I wouldn't place too much confidence on your statistics there.
What I am basically hearing is that the focus of this game is only on your character and not the geo-political and social economic issues we read about and see in all the comics, books and movies.
So if I'm listening your telling me TOR will play like KOTOR, only online and with more and better graphics?
There are no Geo-politcs in video games. The closest you will find to that is in RTS and mmo forums.
Lol, I'm not venting over SWG really as much as I am pointing out that TOR is not all that.
For the record, those that made comments about the other thread, the OP asked me to start new posts so as not to derail his Budget discussion. thanks for caring.
Like I said, you can make all the arguments you want about not having ground based housing as acceptable, and I can disagree all I want. Bottom line is that anyone that reads SW books or comics knows that the main characters did not live in their ships as a primary residence. Lack of options is lack of game play, IMO.
TIME WILL TELL.
So you made a thread where you could drive a negative opinion about a personal prejudice that most forum regulars understand already, while remaining decidedly antagonistic towards varrying tastes and interests of others?
Seems like many a thread before shared this very concept of revealing common knowledge without giving any weight to the views of others.
Really this is a concern wow it seems like a very very small issue and if thats the best you can come up with as an argument why you dont like TOR than you are really reaching. All I have to say is who cares about SW lore as far as player housing is concerned I just want good game mechanics and enjoyable gameplay. Also it seems a bit early to argue why you dont like a game when you have never played the game come back when you have played then give us actual issues that matter to people then maybe I will listen. Until then....
In a Star Wars game, I'd rather be out fighting the dark side (or light) than staying home doing the dishes. A mobile home makes more sense for this game. But to each his own.
You are wrong by the way. Luke skywalker lives on the jade shadow in the fate of the jedi series. Otherwise the jedi live in the temple or at the acadamey on yavin 4. Leia and han have a suite they live in but they didnt build it themselves. Senators and poloticians have quarters in the senate building but again they dont build them.
Bobba fett lives for the most part on slave 2 his ship. Sure he makes planetfall and probably rents a place but bobba fett for the most part lives on his ship. He does eventually settle on madolore as the mandolare but the house he lived in there was built already.
So if u are saying players should be able to build there own housing that has never happened in the star wars novels other then lando. Who has built mining operations on various asteroics and things. The jedi either live in the temple or are out on missions for the republic. The bounty hunters may crash in a hostle on planets they are searching for there prety otherwise they live on there shipts,
Troopers as soldires either live in barracks or on ships they serve on. They may have a modest apartment on there home planet or the planet they are assigned to but mostly live on there ships. Sith well im not sure where they live lol thats never really made clear in most books u read. Im sure they dont build there own housing though.
Smugglers for the most part r going from one job to another so they spend more time on ships then in apartments in fact most of them tend to crash on smugglers moon or others places where they wont be harried by authorities. and imperial agents id think there living quarters would be determined by whatever group they were a spy in.
So while star wars galaxies may of had housing u could build in fact the star wars universe most of the heroes live in houses or penthouses already built that they buy or rent or on there ships. Or in the jedi temple. While tor could add this type of housing later truth is alot of there classes are just as likely to spend more time on there ships travelling to and from there missions and some of them prefer to camp on there ships in ports they dont call home.
Funny, when they unveiled the space ships and told about using them as home I predicted every character will be a snail like toon.
The bad thing is BioWare didn't come up front saying planetary housing wasn't planned, at least for launch. The other issue is they didn't tell players space ships interiors won't be customizable, nor we would be able to furnish them.
=> They helped creating many false expectations
Now would we have the choice of our ship it would mean we would choose between 6 different types. Not bad for an MMO, day 1. The good thing is they can build upon this system, and hopefully space ships won't end as Lotro's housing.
What can be added later on:
Lighten the restricitons on space ships towards one class only.
Add furnishing (one more crafting profession) and free for all item placement.
Add space ships painting, decals and exterior customization.
Add instanced planetary housing in NPC cities & bildings.
Add capital space ship guild housing.
Add more space ship type of chassis and custom interiors.
Guess axing the planetary housing was more like a trade-off than else. And honestly between implementing either planetary housing or space ship housing the second one sounds much more cooler and SW than the other.

WHAT? Aww... that sucks. I always wanted a clone of me to have a decend conversation. Finally.
People don't ask questions to get answers - they ask questions to show how smart they are. - Dogbert
Not at all. There are rednecks, poor pirates and post apocalyptic survivors doing the same thing.
But yeah, a player housing should probably be an alternative.
Houseboats
Yachts
Leer jets
Large new RV's
You know what they all have in common? Hobo's can't afford them and typically wealthy people like them.

I would give anything to live in a spaceship. Firefly anyone

If i had a battleship in rl like in eve....i would NEVER leave my abaddon!
what are you smoking? :P
If you have a vehicle, you are definitely too rich to be a "Hobo".
Also, a space ship owning Hobo ? Good one.
Only hobos live in their vehicles eh? So does that make Jawas the trailer trash of the Star Wars universe ?
