Xfire is in its first day after freemium an the number of xfire players has gone from 280 to more than 600 from a week ago.

It seem this will be a great game once again, with hugh number of players coming back.

Because people are trying it, don't judge it from those numbers yet, from what i've heard it's not too special and the cash shop is awful.
there is not ONE thing about that game wich isnt special or just "the best"
I think that number will grow higher when people ask friends to join. And how can you realy bitch about a game you know little about. Lotro whent like a rocket after going freemium and AoC can to as we have seen today.
A F2P game does not need to be special.. You don't understand the F2P market i guess. There are lot more awful games which are F2P and yet more players play it then your average P2P MMO. AOC is in comparison is a lot better option.
Yes, that is exactly what all these rehashed games/launches are banking on. It's actually quite a brilliant strategy as interest wanes so quickly with these games in today's market. I expect many games will start having annual relauches, reloaded, uncensored, next, whatever.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
There was quite a few people in the starting area last night on the Set server , but not as many as i expected.
So honestly idk..funcom might wanna advertise a little better , and change up the CS a bit. Or this just might not do so well.
You know the game is instanced sow when the population grow then they open a nother instance. And not all the freemium player start in Tortage, some have characters that are a higher lvl.
Give it about 60 days for the re-new to wear off then lets take a look at the numbers.
Until next year when they do it again. 60 days is quite liberal in my opinion.

and some people are just waiting for B&G, like me.
If they actually can keep those numbers, then fine. But many people are just trying out the game, they might not stay.
And the game had a similar but slightly smaller boost when the expansion launched, but it soon got down to normal again.
Wait celebrating until after a month or 2 even if it is so far so good.
The number of xfire player is 877 thats three times what they had before freemium. Sow it is going great and a hugh number of people is enjoying the game, sow come and join use.
Everyone is trying it out now, it's a bit early to see what the numbers will stabilise to.
Still, I think it's safe to say that AoC has always been in the top 10 of P2P MMORPG's and also a game that can walk with pride among the existing AAA MMORPG's, there are a lot of AAA MMORPG's that are less than AoC is, imo. As a new addition to the (hybrid) F2P market, it's certainly one of the higher quality MMORPG's in that segment.
One of the advantages of AoC Unchained in contrast to other hybrid F2P MMO's is that in AoC you can level to level cap and experience all the leveling content while playing F2P. I've always found the leveling experience in AoC an entertaining one, at least on my melee combat characters (caster classes were a lot less fun, at least regarding combat compared to the melee combat or revamped ranger class).
So, for the months ahead I think there are two trends to keep in mind: people that are trying it now, a number of them will grow weary and find out that AoC might not be the game for them to hold their attention for the long term. So this'll lead to a decrease in player numbers.
And then you have the release of the hardcore PvP server with a more brutal ruleset, the Conan movie, and the new to be released areas of Turan that will be linked to the movie which I expect will generate additional attention from players who want it all to try out.
It seems that AoC/FC concept artists worked together with the movie crew for the looks and visuals of the movie, and looking at the movie trailer, I have to say that in atmosphere and vibe I did get an AoC feel from it.

915players on xfire today, AoC has not been this high on xfire ranking in 2,5years(few months after lanch).
I don't know about that, I think right after the RotGS expansion release, the Xfire numbers hit 1400-1500 or so at its peak.
But player populations are certainly a hell of a lot higher than they have been for a long while. Curious as I was, I measured 1500 concurrent players on Fury server late last evening and 2400+ concurrent players on Crom. Which is pretty good, considering that the average high population server in an MMORPG measures a PCU (peak concurrent users) of about 1250-1500.
If I recall correctly, Rift servers at launch were capped at 2000 concurrent players per server, so that should give some measure of the current player activity on those AoC servers.
We'll see how it'll be in the upcoming weeks and months, when the hardcore PvP servers Deathwish and Rage are released and the Conan movie and AoC Turan content update arrives.

...dobbled, seriously? Anyways, for a free to p[lay i was expecting a lot more than that. It's FREE, come on. Other F2P get thousands of players at start and this is not starting out.
Xfire player number might have been higher, there are less people using xfire. If you se how mutch money Funcom i getting from aoc the number of 280-300player on xfire gave income from about 100k players.
The xfire number today was not to bad. And if the hords keep comeing back to play AoC there will be atleast 300k playing the nexst year. Well i hope Lotro did boost there player number alot when going freemium and AoC might do a simulaire boost as we have seen this weekend+monday.
Who cares how many returned and what the xfire numbers look like. The real thing I want to know is how many of these folks returned under free to play, and how many could not stand the restrictions who re subbed, or unlocked or whatever it was.
The real question becomes this how much more money is funcom going to make and will it be sued to make the game better.
Well, it's always hard to be sure when trying to determine player activity trends, but compared with a few weeks back, the current player activity has seen a rise of 2.5 times the former population numbers (using Xfire), which seems in line with the rise after a F2P move as seen with other MMO's like LotrO.
No way to know, unless FC releases the info themselves. Thinking about it, I also don't know these figures for LotrO, as far as I recall Turbine never released those figures for LotrO, as far as I'm aware of (if they did, links are appreciated )

It's disapointing to see that the AOC numbers on Xfire went down today to 911 compared with 915 yesterday. I had hoped for 1100-1200 today. LOTRO launched F2P on 10 septemper.2010, and the day after the game was #8 on Xfire. Lotro had done alot better marketing before launching though, and doing it in the fall is probably better if you want to bring large numbers back, now many are away on hollidays.
Either Funcom has a crappy marketing department or this is done intentional to draw in players in stages, so to not flood the servers(game servers and download servers...)
What is not to be mistaken in many opinions above is that Xfire is mostly used by teenagers. The key group of Age of Conan is definetaly mature, so I am not sure how to take these numbers seriously. I do not think that the key group of Age of Conan is the casual 'Hardcore player' for which Xfire is used. In my experience, the people who play Age of Conan are begin 20's or above. They all have some better things to do then stick on Xfire all the time.
Another explaination for the slow start of Age of Conan Unchained is the lack of advertisemenets that they are doing. They want to take it slow and easy before advertising that will lead hundreds of thousends of players back to the game. That is in my opinion a good thing, because some of us remember the launch days very well. It seems that Funcom has learned from it's previous made mistakes.
Funcom will do all out promo when the new Conan Movie is out. Strike while the iron is hot. If they do it now no one give a shit about it.
Pardon my English as it is not my 1st language
Yes, I tried it out, yes I am using xfire. Am I going to continue playing ? almost no chance at all.
I don't use XFire and never will. Funcom still doesn't get it. There game is an MMORPG. There is nothing massive in cloned zones where you have to pick a drop down menu to determine which copy of a zone you want to go play in. If you want better PvP in cloned zones, go play Hellgate:London.
Power to the Sheeple
They use instances, their areas are only clones of eachother if you're blind or mentally challenged. Hellgate London's zones are procedurally generated for a part, AoC's zones are not.
If you don't like zoned areas, go play another MMORPG, there are enough around to choose from for you.
