Ok, so I'm only level 17 right now so I'm not too deep into the game. I've been reading a few things regarding F2P players and PvP. What I've been seeing is F2P players have no access to Alternative Advancement. Supposedly this is needed or you will get stomped by other players. Another thing I read was you would not be able to buy PvP gear through the in game vendors since you will need more than 2 Gold. One more thing I thought I read was something like, F2P players cannot socket gems (or enchant... something like that) into items, which would be another disadvantage.
I could not find an item in the Item Shop that unlocked AA, allowed you to carry more gold, or allow you to use player made gems. Maybe I'm just blind and did not see it?
I don't mind spending money in the shop btw, but I don't want to be at a huge disadvantage in PvP just because I'm a F2P guy. Is it even worth it for me to continue playing?
Some things I wanted to ask on the side... Are sieges something that is essential to PvP? I don't see any option to buy access to sieges. Also, if I buy a bag will my space still be halved?

To be honest with you and i have played since just after launch the only thing good and worthwhile about being a free to play, player is it gives you a chance to lvl from 1 to 80 for free and from 1 to 79 you should be able to PVP competativly enough to make it enjoyable but when you hit 80 unless you are a rediculasly good pvper (Even then its dam hard) you will die super quick you wont do enough dmg and it will not be a fun experience.
In my opinion to be competative in AOC Mini games at least you will need to be PVP 5 or higher with the Gear to go with that,
and you will need the AA points otherwised you are gimped to the PVP10s and there 100s of AAs
So to summerize if you want to continue to play lvl from 1 to about 70 for free then subcribe.
Thanks for the response. I doubt I will subscribe to AoC because I don't think it's worth it (just my opinion... and like I said I don't mind spending some money in the shop here and there). I do find it enjoyable enough for a game to play once in a while.. I do want to PvP at end game, though... even if it wont be on a regular basis. I just don't want to be at a huge disadvantage just because I'm f2p.
I will wait for some more responses before I make my decision. Thanks again.
hmmm... no other responses to this? I was hoping for more feedback to make my decision =/
AA from what i know only appear at 80 so it wont really be important do u until then.
I believe aoc until 80 will be very good for free 2 play pvp because the you dont have any big disadvantage.
Expect kids buying weapons because they cant get them but you can get good weapons from in game too.
The only truly bad think about f2p is the limited classes
I was told you cant get AAs till you get the xpac, is that true? i have an 80 demon, cant seem to figure out how to get any AAs. i dont have the god slayer xpac. its $12 on amazon atm, thinking about grabbing it when i get payed this week.
You need to subscribe in order to use AA's. Also, don't bother buying the expansion as it does nothing now. They went in and Ninja edited the F2P FAQ after it went live, previously it had stated you would have access if you'd bought the expansion, now you don't and have to buy 7 days passes.
Here's what the FAQ said until after F2P went live, it is no longer there :
ok i have a sub for my 80, took over the guild and since my 80 is the architect has begun to farm mats to upgrade the city. i finished some wanted quests so i could get money to finish off the arch quests. i havent seen a change in anything related to AA. I guess ill have to do some research on how to acquire AAs.
EQ2 is easy, just select a slider of how much xp you want to dump into AAs. was hoping it was somethin like this, get xp and get AAs.
At the top of the AA screen you'll see Mastery on the left and Prowess on the right, where their names are it will display how much xp you've gained towards gaining 3 Mastery (PvE) + 1 Exertise or 1 Expertise and 3 Prowess (PvP). I think it's 1,000,000 xp each time if i remember right.
If you're not gaining Mastery XP from killing mobs and doing quests then perhaps contact the live support as you're supposed to have full access just from subscribing. There are also a couple of quests in Gateway to Khitai which will grant you an Expertise point each, one is from an NPC standing to the right of the large gate at gate which leads to the next Khitai zone, the other was from an NPC in the camp over to the North West somewhere.
Thanks for the info Kabaal. I'll check it when i head home for lunch.
I guess I'll still play once in a while. I just hope Funcom adjusts their store to have reasonable pricing. It would be nice if you could unlock AA through the store (one time fee - not rented). I don't mind spending money in the store, but damnit... these restrictions and some of the prices are ridiuclous. I honestly believe that their model will not work in making most people subscribe. Instead of focusing on basically forcing people to sub to enjoy end game, they should work on making this game more accessable to f2p players.
Obviously we shouldn't get everything for free, but we should be able to get everything by purchasing it in the store. Maybe a work around for f2p players would be to sub long enough to unlock what you need then unsub. I dunno.
I agree everything should not be for free but they should have it like LOTRO where if you want to put in the time you can pretty much play the whole game for free and only spend money when you want to and in LOTRO the prices are reasonable for items, Another great one is APB.
AOC if you have a lvl 80 you cant actually do anything except PVP minis and if you dont have the gear you are stuffed unless you spend $50 to get your toon geared from the store, but there is no PVE available unless you pay.
