I only get the collectors edition of the games I really like or if the items the collectors edition comes with are good. I've never played guild wars so this is hard for me. I am thinking about getting GW2 though.
I will only buy the CE if the game gets rave reviews and proves to live up to all its promises on release. I basically see the CE as just a way to thank ANet for a great game. If the game doesn't live up to its promises, I'm getting SE all the way.
I'm a fan boy of the Arenanet art team, I loved the art books that came with the Factions and Nightfall CE, I guess there will be a few cosmetic in game goodies too. I also know that the minute it launches I want to be in game with my guildies which means I'll have to go for digital download, guess I'll have to wait and see what comes in the box to see if an additional purchase is warranted.
We'll probably do what we did with Rift, which is buy one Collector's Edition and one digital, so that we have the nice box and goodies, but not duplicates of everything. That's unless the CE comes with some cool online doohickey both DH and I want to show off in game.... but then we will both have Hall of Monuments goodies, so I can't think of anything that would equal that in coolness .
Depends on what they put in it. If they have editions with Destiny's Edge figurines so I can get me a Rytlock, then I'd get the CE, and/or if they tossed in one of those charr plushies they gave to Guild Wars 1 testers I'd buy the CE. Otherwise I'll just buy the regular version. I don't need more plastic trash around.
(I think the only CE I've bought in forever, in perhaps the last eight or so years, maybe, is the BioShock one. I was pleased with that because the Big Daddy figurine was absolutely amazing. He's displayed not too far away from my collection of Country Artists wolves and Franklin Mint dragons. If they can do something like that but with Rytlock then I'm instasold on the CE.)
i would have to say box order cuz with guildwar 1 i sometimes take breaks which last for several months and when i return i forgot my password and i use the key i originally got in the box to redeem my password successfully.
I get a special edition called the Champion's Edition, it contains a real life female Norn that only requires water to come to life and also a real life Sohothin flame sword that allows me to move through time.
Collectors Edition. I like to use the large boxes to cram down the throats of people that say I only play GW because it's B2P. Hopefully GW2 CE comes in a metal box.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

i usually end up going with the pre-order digital "with ingame swanky, digital goodies" type deal when its available, i very very very rarely get collectors editions anymore, i do however like my shiny ingame trinkets, as long as its not stupidly overpriced.
But we'll see once we get closer to release date and the diffrent offers and details start showing up.

Regular. I will never waste my money on a CE again. It's just not worth it for me.
I know a lot of people like the CEs, but I guess I'm not a collector of these things.

what he said
Depends.
I myself am not a collector of these trivial things.
However, if there are any really promising goodies inside, I'll do it to support Arenanet for putting themself out there.
However, it most likely won't include anything I might like. Probably some aesthetic in-game item I'll never use.
I probably won't get the Collector's Edition. I got the CE for Guild Wars Factions and I said to myself: never again.
I really hate those ENORMOUS boxes.
Well I bought nightfall CE because (from some unknown reason) it was cheaper than the regular one
Best bargain ever
So if Im going to have the same luck again, CE that is
I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them
...ditto... hehe...I've ordered one CE in my 15-years. lol....never again for my own reasons.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

I don't buy CEs unless it comes with something I want. I really wish that I had the Fallout 3 CE, because it comes with a lunchbox.

I want the game not the box sums up my opinion of CE marketing so-called "deals".
That said, here's a check-list that is bespoke to something that I'd consider of value beyond the game:
1. Art collection (perhaps digitially arranged)
2. Jeremy Soule's soundtrack et al.
3. A compilation of lore of GW2 and/or the complete trilogy of books (?)
These production values of the game itself are awesome.

I'm a sucker for collector editions for games I like, so I'll probably buy it.
Just this month alone I'm buying TWO collector's editions, which will net me... two pillow cases, a pair of boxers, an art book and a pizza box.
(You totally win at being well informed if you can tell what two CE I'm buying by the swag I'm getting. :P )
(Luckily I don't buy many games anymore, CE can add up. )
The right question is when, not which.

CE i loved the first one and i think i will adore the second

CE just because.

Collector's if it comes with ingame items. I couldn't care less about artbooks or soundtracks and I can find lore on the wiki.

Digital Order if they offre beta key with it (NCsoft did that with Aion) + a CE the day it lunchs !!

This is not a game.

Definetly the collectors edition. I rarely buy a new game so when i do i like to get the most i can out of it. =D
