Black Tower in Mortal Online

RohnRohn Member UncommonPosts: 3,730

It appears that the first Black Tower player house has been built in the game.  Purportedly this has something to do with the red gem lore that people have been trying to figure out for a while.

Very cool!

No, it's not pitch black, which would be lousy for detail.  It's grey - dark grey in some places, lighter grey in others.  Of course, the light of the sun will wash out the colors.

    Another picture:

    image

The dark stone could have earned the moniker "black" in a medieval or Renaissance setting, as with Castillo de San Juan in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, or Leighlinbridge Castle in Ireland, both commonly called "Black Castle", neither of which are pitch black.

But, indeed, it is not jet black.  It's also not white.

It is, however, one of the coolest types of player housing I've seen in an MMO.  image

That is supposed to be a tower? Hardly...

  • BetelBetel Member Posts: 365

As you said earlier, you haven't played many MMO's so I can tell you that the house is very similar to SWG and LOTRO house styles.

Plus Castillo de San Juan is named the Black Castle due to it's proximity to Caleta de Negros - a beach composed of volcanic sand. Volcanic sand is ... black.

Indeed.  So, I thank you for pointing out that people, places, and things can be given a wide range of names irrespective of their exact physical properties, and for a variety of reasons.

Regardless the nitpicking and semantics, I like the house.

I believe you are correct, I think this is the Tier 1 version.  Not completely sure, though.

looks good in my opinion, but i beleive its jsut called a tower it isnt called a black tower since i checked the deed. Cant wait to see the tier2 and tier3 versions.

To those trying to pick faults with this, i mean really it does look at least kinda cool and all the haters keep saying they like mo and the idea behind it etc etc so why not just admit the tower is nice and at least something new. Instead of trying to fault every single tihng, i mean if i showed you a pic of a mushroom pickable you would all be complaining the colour is off or soemthing.

there are 2 types of mmo, imitators and innovaters.

Since the deed in game just says tower it's not a particularly important point, but...

Have you considered that the castle is made of similar materials to the source of the sand ?

Resulting in similar dark grey coloration.

In the first link "sillería volcánica de tonos grises" should translate as "gray volcanic stonework" not "gray volcanic chairs"

Not supporting anything here but what? In what way is that similar in style to housing in either of those games, even a little bit?

I don't think it looks kinda cool. If you really wanna talk about how it looks, okay:

I'm not an architect but to be honest, the gentle thin masonry on the lower half of the "tower" look either too weak to carry the roof, or if they are backed up by .. columns on the inside or anything, and if they are only there for decoration, then I must say: This decoration is boring and lacking any kind of detail. I bet the windows aren't even real windows. It's probably dark in the inside. I wonder if there are torches in there.

The stairway is a joke. Is there a single stairway in MO that isn't entirely straight and made of about 16 polygons without any decoration, curves, a balustrade, whatsoever?

The whole thing looks like a huge broad penis. Look at the enormous tip, the little veins at the lower half.. considering the priests in MO are all standing in front of huge penis statues as well we can at least assume that there's an impellent design idea behind it. ;)

Whether it's new or not.. I can't check this suspicion but I wouldn't be surprised if this was an exact copy or a modified version of some other building on the map. For example that ruin of a tower outside Vadda.

Instead of trying to fault every single tihng, i mean if i showed you a pic of a mushroom pickable you would all be complaining the colour is off or soemthing.

That's the next issue I have with it. If you showed me a mushroom and talked about a mushroom, fine. But what if you talked about a mushroom and showed me a dog?

This isn't a tower. It isn't even higher than it is wide. And it isn't black. At this point, I would like to state what else it could be instead. So I looked at it for a minute but I can't find any use. A storage hall? Too massive. A chapel? Too small. Maybe a shrine. For the penis cult.

I mean, it's not like it matters much because I'm sure it doesn't have any use at all. Can anyone else except of the owner even use it? Does it have a chest? And if yes, how's that different from a normal house?

Must be a slow news day when a 40 minutes project of a college art student gets its own headline..

Lets also not forget houses in this game are a joke.  Most of them you can not even use at night (NO LIGHT SOURCE).  Almot all of them someone can exploit into.  And if I am correct as of right now the chests (storage) is not working properly.  Alos there is ZERO custimization.  The only thing you can do is place some work tables.  No funiture NO decorations.   It has to be the weakest attempt at doing housing out of any MMO I have played.   I never played an MMO with housing that I could not decorate or custimize let alone see at night inside it.

I will admit that I never owned a house so I did not know some of what you mentioned.  Do you happen to know if they ever fixed the issue where the weather effects ignored housing?  So it would rain inside the house?

Weather effect is still only a layer applied on your screen, it ignores everything that could protect you from it.

  • deathshrouddeathshroud Member Posts: 1,366

no you cannot exploit into houses, that was fixed with dawn. still rains inside i beleive, havent been in a house for abit.

That was kind of my point, as the tower in MO isn't black and won't be next to a volcanic beach.

But if they edited the tower deed to no longer say black or whatever, moot point now.

Are you sure of that? ;)

This says it all about the usefulness of housing in MO. Someone who plays a LOT hasn't been in a house, any house never mind his own if he has one, for weeks at least.

Rockhound has confirmed that this is the Tier 1 version - the Tier 2 version is larger, and the Tier 3 version adds a priest:

Oh by the way, the tower fits into any normal house spot location, or so i'm told. So get out your shed permits and start looking for a suitable spot for your pimpin' tower of awesomeness

To quote someone else - as far as masonry goes, it's black enough.

Beyond that, I believe it's actually just called a "Tower" in the game - the players that made the first one called it black.
