    Bullet one: Yes.

Bullet two: Yes (and they're involved with crafting).

Bullet three: No. You can, it will just be quite difficult; those who wish to challenge themselves or want to boast about something will undoubtedly attempt the game without companions. We have yet to see how difficult it'll be, but I imagine the vast majority - even "soloers" - will concede and keep their companions around.

It might be my English because we are saying the same thing: if you don't play the game in solo mode with a companion you are selecting the hard mode setting, meaning you can't play in normal difficulty mode without companions. There are no way, like buffs or else to mitigate the lack of companions, once again in solo mode.

Ex: in world PvP with the exact same level, class, skills and gear that your opponent the one without a companion will be ganked.

    I'm ok with that

However, I would rather say that  there is the possibility to play without companion but that would put you in a difficulty mode (which usally is a common term for solo gaming or raiding content for some MMOs).

I wouldn't be so declarative about the Open World PvP, in regards the lack of statements about this.

    Check above and:

Will companions function in PvP? Either in Warzones or in the game world proper?

    Emmanuel Lusinchi:

So, out in the world, if you have a companion out, you have a companion out and if you happen to be engaging a player of the opposing faction your companion's still there and so he's going to be a factor. In a duel, it's the same thing, unless you agree with the other guys to dismiss your companion, your companion's going to be out there and so he's going to participate in the fight.

In Warzones, actually, we allowed them for a while, and then we decided, partly based on feedback, that when you're doing PvP you're really doing PvP and that's, in an environment where we control all the factors, who gets in, when they get in, how many of them, we thought it was more itnersting to only have players vs. players, so no companions, they come back after the match. So, you know, when you get killed you know you get killed by another player and not just an A.I. We find it more interesting, we think it plays better. It's a trivial change, literally one bit somewhere on the data tables somewhere, so it's not like it's written in stone, "You can never change your mind!" So if the players really really want it we can make a new mode where you can queue with companions, but right now it's out, and it plays well.

I know this one, Emmanuel's french accent makes him more understandable for me.

Again, there is no big reveal about Open World PvP and how it will work...

and sure dueling without companion would be a factor being like a "non pet class vs a pet class" combat. Right?

Actually, pet classes in other games are balanced to include the pet for PvE or PvP. That makes a pet class equall to a non pet class as far as strength. So your character is weaker without the pet than another non pet class player. So no, the non pet class vs pet class is not the same thing. Every character in TOR will be balanced to include the companion. So without a companion, you will be signifigantly weaker than an even geared player  with a companion.

    Ok, i got it.

Another thing i am thinking about : Open pvp (despite the lack of info about it)

Open pvp means you can pvp in group.

A group is 4 members, companions included. I'm not sure that a group of  3 players + 1 companion would be so underpowered against a full group of players.

In WoW for instance, I never heard a group of  3 players + 1 pet class + 1 pet being as equal as a full group of five players.

That leads me to guess that companions are more than simple pets.

But Well, we don't have much details about either how the outside pvp works or how the companion can be used for all the different situations.

More than likely, open world PvP on a PvP server will just be players running around killing each other in the open world. image

I have heard rumor of something like the lakes from WAR and there will be open world PvP contested areas both on PvE and PvP servers. But we are far from confirmation on PvP. There should be a friday update just for PvP.

You can be grouped on not grouped, I don't think it will matter. I would think that you could form a raid group as well, but no companions can be in raids. But yes, a full group will be stronger than a group of 3 + one companion. Last I read about the strenght of companions was they were about 60% of a player. But they are adjusting that, and will be adjusting the strenght up to launch and probably after launch.

Now that I think about it. It would probably be smarter to not be in a group for open world PvP. That way everyone can have their companion out. It may be difficult for a full group to go up against 4 other players not grouped, each with a companion. That will make things interesting on a PvP server.

Personally, I like having companions around. They were fun to have around in the Dragon Age games. Heck, I would like to see us get the ability to pit our companions against those of other players in some sort of back-alley arena.

It depends how buffs and heals works.

In many MMO you have to be grouped with the buffer/Healer to benefits for it's auras and aoe heals.

Good point. We'll just have to see how it plays out. Hopefully they will go into more of these type of things with a PvP friday update.

I guess in open world pvp, companions could just fight each other exclusively. That would look kinda cool actually.

Would be fun seeing 2 companions from opposite factions having a "conversation" while their masters are sitting at the same table having a drink ;)
