Age of Conans PVP server fail

I was so excited to be comming back to AoC I got all my mates I used to play with to make characters on the new Rage server with the thrill and excitement of pure PVP.

After leveling several other characters to 80 with the grinding of quests and have to solo my way to 80 on every character I was thrilled with the fact of leveling using PVP! After logging in on the Rage server with my friends and joining the minis I noticed no xp gain as I just discovered PVPXP WAS DISABLED !

NOOOO the only reason we all came back to the game was not having to grind yet another character to 80 (boooooorriiiing) and leveling doing something cool like PVP but now since you can no longer level using PVP I have no more intentions to subscribe and after telling my returning friends they are going to unsub too.

I can understand the fact they may not want players to instance pvp their way up to 80 but it should still be an option because not everyone will want to level that way.

If I understand you correctly you are saying the following. You and your friends entered an instance and intended to level each other by repeatedly killing each other. Personal speculation infers that one person would be able to go afk and his avatar would be repeatedly killed through the use of macros by another person. This would also prevent your leveling from being interrupted by other people who just wanted to pvp with you.

Huh? I didnt even know that people did that until now.

No you misunderstand I was specifically talking about Mini games. I expected to be able to level in minis like battlegrounds in every other mmos like Rift, WOW and Everquest 2.

  • EmhsterEmhster Member UncommonPosts: 913

Well, you have the other servers to level up toons through instances if you don't want world pvp. I don't see this limitation as being a valid reason why "Age of Conans PVP server fail"

  • blayugsblayugs Member Posts: 108

Minis would be way more regualr on a PVP server compared to other servers and yes I would do it on another server except for the fact that the new Rage server has no Bori and pvp would be a lot more fun.

Running around looking for random players to engage whilst questing to level would be a lot more rewarding if you could get PVPXP from doing it also. Getting PVPXP in minis is not a lot to ask for on a PVP server encouraging PVE as the ONLY way to level to 80.

Ugh I havent played much since Bori came live, and from what I gathered it was a cheap way to get your pvp rank up. Is it still the case?

Yeh Bori is still a cheap way but thank god its not enabled on the new B&G servers.

Not on the new hardcore PvP servers Deathwish (US) and Rage (EU).

Bori is removed there, you can loot players you kill (randomized loot + 1 item from player), no guards etc.

This is the list that applies to these 2 new servers that opened today:

    • This is a fresh start server, no transfers.

    • You are only allowed one character on this server. Your reputation will mean something!

    • There are no guards on this server. Your only protection from other players will be your allies, and your own wits and skills.

    • No Offline levels are useable, all levels must be earned the hard way!

    • The Shrines of Bori feature is disabled on this server, so teams can't allow their friends to progress under their protection as they can on the regular servers.

    • Diminishing returns has been adjusted slightly, allowing for more XP from PVP kills on this server.

    • PVP is opened up again in White Sands isle and the Underhalls so that the PVP experience exists in some of the starting areas as well.

    • NPCs and mobs will drop items but no money. So you will have to earn some coin by doing quests, sell items or looting it off other players.

    • There is an additional limited form of player looting. One random non-No Drop item from your inventory will be left behind as loot when you die to another player.

      • The item must not be flagged as 'no drop'

      • The item must not be flagged as a sales item (bought in the in-game store).

      • The victim must be worth PvP XP to the killer, and the kill takes place in a playfield where PvP XP can be earned.

Been having a mess around on the new server tonight and it seems 'ok'. The biggest problem i'm having is that it really is just the same old same old, next to nothing different than the way the game was before release other than no guards. I doubt it will be much more than something to occasionally pass some time for me.

Before they launched this server they stated that it would have increased PvP XP from kills, then in the rule set posted it had changed a tweaking of the diminishing retaurns. They need to tweak it a bit more as you're still get 1 XP after killing someone a couple of times.

Too much PVE element is enforced on the new servers to be an enjoyable PVP server. I feel that it will still be a more popular PVP server due to the fact that the ruleset has no Bori and PVP wont be as annoying.

It's just the same Conan that existed before, but now you have open world PvP with some looting and one character per server. There's still not much point to the PvP, other than now you can just walk around killing people. You still need the quests, the instances, etc.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

The first time I tried AoC, I played on a PvP server, and  it was a miserable experience.  All through Tortage there were people over level 20 ganking lowbies at every possible opportunity.  Then, of course, they would run to your respawn (or have a party member stationed there already) to kill you as soon as you revived.

Pretty much turned me off of PvP in this game forever.  Your mileage may vary.

All the more reason to be able to have mini games as another way to level. It is a PVP server after all but players should be able to enjoy the aspect of leveling via open world and mini game PVP dont you think ?

  • DKLondDKLond Member RarePosts: 2,273

    It's a decent start, I suppose.

However, I don't see how a solo player is supposed to compete on a server like that.

I'm not EXCLUSIVELY a solo player, but I prefer to compete alone. Very few MMOs have room for someone like myself. Groups simply have the advantage no matter how skilled you manage to get.

I find the pvp server fun and exciting! We're all on the same playing level at the moment. Tons of new players, guild are excited to build cities again. So on.. It brought life back to the game that has been "set in it's ways."

  • thebigghostthebigghost Member Posts: 65

Sorry for the double post, you can do it. Just hide out in instances most of the time. You'll need to group once in a while, but that's more of less the point of the game. After 80 most of it is groups anyway.

  • DKLondDKLond Member RarePosts: 2,273

    I'll check it out :)

But I don't really have the time to catch up - I'm afraid.

  • thebigghostthebigghost Member Posts: 65

Oh you probably do, it JUST opened like 16 hours ago! 99% are still running on noob island. I think tomorrow will be the big move from noob island to mainland.

I am a AOC player since start and have been to Corinthia,Aquilonia,Fury and Crom.Since yesterday i will also play on RAGE. I have high hopes for this new server and these are the reasons:

1)One character per person. This is much more important than you may think. You are who you are and your "image" follows you to the end. Your player profile is important here. Wanna be a friendly and helpful player or aa mindless badmouth ganker? Choose what you like but it will stay that way forever.

2)NPCs and mobs will NOT drop any gold. This means that you have to either sell stuff to the trader, craft useful weapons, armours and potions and sell them at a price that TRULLY reflects the economy of the server. Or even try to steal stuff from resource gatherers! You can finally be a thief! Trully! But you can also be a bodyguard and protect gatherers ! These "services' will soon be needed! There will be an economy that actually relies on player base decisions and actions! Propably the first healthy server economy this game ever had  (unless gold sellers ruin it all ).

    3) Player social skills and relationships MATTER here

There will actually be guild grudges and actual guild vs guild hatred based on...ANYTHING. From personal dispute to RP reasons! This will create what was missing from the game for 2 years : POLITICS

I had my best times in game when on Corinthia server there was a war we oldtimers still remember as the BIG ONE.

The "Three Rings" vs "The Black Wolf"! Anywhere and anytime there would be massive open world pvp! Not only Kesh but also Eiglophian , Field of the Dead.We were ambushing the other guild and believe or not we ALL had fun! This was missed from most guilds, specially when they all got to 80 lvl and started ...crashing at sieges. Now sieges WILL have a certain "flavour" when you will be attacking a guild that you are not fond of ( and not just because you need a BK for the buffs! I mean c'mon there were sieges that if you asked the attackers 'WHO ARE YOU ATTACKING?" they had to ask around in order to answer!)

The only bad thing that coul discourage many new players is the bad image of GLOBAL chat and of course the excessive spawn ganking of the first areas... I tell you this..find a group, lvl up and try to leave Tortage QUICKLY.After that there will be much less mindless gank and ass***ls.

Yeah, I don't get why people are complaining already. They wanted a hardcore PvP server ruleset. There it is.. what's the problem?
