An aptly-acronymed "Firefly Universe Online" now has a website at http://www.fireflyuniverseonline.com. It is being produced by a "studio" called darkcryo (I put "studio" in quotes because it is an indie studio and there's no way to confirm this as an actual attempt at a game).
They do not, at this time, have the rights to produce a Firefly MMO, so it may be a bit premature to claim to be making one (a similar attempt at a fan-made Shadowrun MMO got shut down pretty quickly).
Nonetheless, it would be awesome if they could actually get the rights and produce the game. I'm all for indie studios making it in this megacorp world.

Yeah man, there has been a few threads about on this. I have just been re-watching the series and five mins ago finnished the last episode. Then I had the customery 5 mins of nerd rage as to wtf they where thinking when they canceled it. Then I clocked your thread. I would love this game to work so much, but as we know it's not really official so I wont hold my breath......Also I have been a smoker for almost 20 years now so my actual holding breath ability is not strong. Anyway, hope somebody gets this game a licence.
I remember reading a couple of years back that some small-beans studio did hold the rights to produce it... and were basically just sitting on those rights. Sigh...
