NEW GUY ADVICE: Best PVE Healer Race / Class Combo?

FoizleFoizle Member Posts: 16

Healing.

It's all I do in MMORPGs.  I love it.

I know nothing about EQII.  What's the conventional wisdom on the best choice for keeping a group alive?  Not interested in DPS, becoming some badass "death priest" class, or flinging out damage.

I'm a healer.  I want to keep you and your group alive so that you can keep doing the awesome clicky things you do while seeing the sights of Norrath.

So, what do I need to pick to be the best group healer I can be?

Defiler, Warden, Inq, templar are all great healers.

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

Defilers and Wardens are very strong group healers. Can't comment on Templar, haven't played one. For races: Dwarf, Froglok, Barbarian, Sarnak. Race doesn't really matter, only if you are min/maxer.

Warden and Templar are prolly the 2 best.

For heroic groups, any healer will do the job.

Mystics are great for buffing melee groups.

Fury are the best at buffing caster groups.

Inquisitors are great for any DPS group really.

Templars and Defilers are the generic pure healing classes. Both are used for main tank groups in raids.

Wardens are currently the ugly stepchild of the healers, they do everything OK. Technically they are the melee equivalent of the Fury and they have unlimited mana... but they just end up kinda... 'meh'.

As a disclaimer... Fury have pretty bad mana issues unless you have a good enchanter with you or certain mana generating items.

Warden is probably going to be the easiest although I would say pure healing end game would be defiler but they all can do the job. Raiding is where certain classes shine in situations. Froglok and Dwarf have good racials for healers but like someone else said its only for min/maxing.

    Ultimately race doesn't matter.

So it comes down to which class is the best.

Templar is probably the strongest healer in the game, but any of the healer classes can perform equally well. I found clerics kind of boring.

Druid (Fury / Warden) - I like HoTs, and being able to shape shift is fun. Druids primary heal mechanic is Heal Over Time, or regenerative heals. I like HoTs because a little more strategy goes into healing.

Cleric (Inquisitor / Templar) - Clerics have the most potent burst heals. Reactive healing

Shaman (Defiler / Mystic) - Shamans focus on ward mechanics, they place a temporary shield on an ally which absorbs a certain amount of damage. Proactive healing. Instead of healing your tank, you place a shield on them which prevents them from taking damage.

Theres no strategy in heals over time. With Fury and Warden you keep the same heals going indefinitely on cooldown and use some 'oh shit' heals when necessary.

Warden is the easiest class to heal as, because you just spam the same stuff with unlimited mana, its not reactive or situational at all. Its why there are so many of them comparitively.

Druids require no skill if you just want to spam heals, if you want to be good you need to push for as much DPS as you can whilst not letting anyone die.

Inquis and Mystics are also DPS healers with skills specifically designed to aid in boosting the groups effectiveness while the healers attacks

Defiler and Templer are just the run of the mill heal spammers with some great 'Oh S@!" skills

Depends on your play style though I have raided using all the healer types and found they all have their uses.
