Whether you are an old veteran with grey hear (or no hair left at all), or a new player just starting out, I can tell you a secret I found out a few months ago. There is more to the world of Norrath than chasing for numbers.

It is often easy to forget the important reasons why we first picked this game off a store shelf, or a digital download site. I have been playing Everquest2 for quite some time now and to be fair, I do not remember every level I got. The memories stuck in my head are killing my first skeleton in the Queen's Colony, getting lost in a dungeon, or setting up my first home.

I have been working with new players for the last few months, running low level instances and having fun. What I found out is that those times of killing first skeletons and getting lost in dungeons are not as far out of reach as it may seem. Don't get me wrong, the game has a lot of offer on all levels, late-game especially, but sometimes it slips from fun to becoming a chore.

The reason I am writing this post is that we are starting a guild an AB, that is about creating these memorable experiences with friends you make along the way. Absolutely no level-rush, no forcing players into directions. We welcome any levels, classes, or alignments. Casual or playing every day, this does not matter. In our guild you can have as much fun as you like, no matter how many hours you invest into the world of Norrath.

Family environment, no restrictions, content of all levels and events from all aspects of the game (crafting, decorating, races, scavenger hunts, groups, all level raids), that is what we plan to do.

Below is part of a welcome letter we are planning to send out when we create the guild:

We want you, as a player, to enjoy your stay around here and have fun, instead of making yourself feel like your working on some chore. This game is not about end-game or the meta-game, but about Role-Play, Friendships and above all: Entertainment.

When The Night Watch was founded, we had one rule: Never shut someone out.

If you fail at your class, no problem; we are here to help. If you feel like you are not needed, tell us and we shall make sure you are needed.

The Night Watch is a guild for new players, by new players. We feel a guild should look and feel like a family. We don't want to push you to the end, because that is not where it is at. Everquest 2 is a game that focuses on the journey, not the destination.

We find it very important that players feel themselves at home and ease. If you have suggestions, improvements or anything related to that; say it. Let yourself out. We want players to feel in control. It is their game, it is their character, it is their journey. You should be what matters, not the rest.

If any of you are interested in what you read above, want to make new friends and enjoy the game together, you are more than welcome to join.

The guild is scheduled to be created on Saturday. Currently we are looking for players to fill the few remaining leadership positions. If you are interested in becoming a normal member, do not hesitate to contact me aswell.

We are on the AB server, send a mail to "Laxie" or try to send a tell.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Best of luck on your travels through Norrath,

Laxie

Update (July 30th):

The guild is growing quickly and has a very nice core of active players. We are grouping daily, with several events a week. A custom quest-serie is coming in August. Plenty of fun and friends waiting for you in several timezones. A fair ranks/promotions system, not restricting, but rewarding (while not pushing you at all).

Anyone is welcome to join. Contact one of our recruiters in-game and register on our website.

Update (August 3rd):

We are currently working on a guild quest. The first "Episode" is going to be an interactive story, stretching over the month of August. Plenty of amazing lore, dangerous tasks and fun-packed events for our guild members or friends of the guild. I will be posting more information when we are done. Currently finishing the Lore aspects of the quest line.

What town will your guild hall be in?  I already have lvl 90s on Everfrost, but my guild has really lost so many people that next to no one is on. I can't afford to transfer, but I would consider starting a new character. So again....good or evil or Gorowyn or where? Where's the guild hall to be located?

And what is the name of the guild going to be?

I love your idea but the game selection does not promote team play which would kill my fun (EG 2 got way to easy, I like a little bit of difficulty to keep the team thinking).  Good luck to you though, sounds like a fun guild.

yes think thats a fair comment on the mob status..

You should do a Vanguard guild the same, the mobs on there will certainly give everyone a run for they're money at times :D

Currently doing the shadowhound mount quest run :D and then the unicorn, just cause its fun the game is pure win really for enjoyment..

said enough though wont digress the thread no more hehe.. but still id love to play eq2 but i could never really get into it for some reason, was not able to put finger on it, i so wanted to enjoy a little ratonga druidy type class, similiar to my vg disciple, but just could not settle in the game.. It could of been though due to not having a newbie guild like this guy is talking about :O

    food for thought.

  • laxielaxie Member RarePosts: 1,123

Wow, thanks for all the interest :)

Anyone who would like to join, please send an ingame mail to "Laxie".

We would be absolutely delighted to have you with us! The more the merrier.

As a reply to the second post, the guild name is The Night Watch, it is on Antonia Bayle. The guild hall will be most likely in New Halas, to allow both races an easy access. There are also banks and brokers right infront of the guild house, which makes things easier. But the guild house is still quite a long way ahead I believe. Keeping in mind the values our guild lives by, we are probably the worst choice if you want all the "bling" and if you want it right now.

We offer a different kind of "bling" to hopefully compensate for that. :)

To the other part of this thread

I myself fell in love with the game the very first day. I just like the music and the over-all style, but that if my personal preference. We all are different, so I understand that a lot of people will not feel the same as I do. :)

There is a lot of content in the game, but the truth is, sometimes it is hard to see. So if you do not find the right groups of people to guide you through, it may seem confusing and difficult at times.

I am looking forward to the next few updates, as they could fix some of the issues that make the game too complicated. The dungeon finder is a good step to support grouping. Hope it will turn out nice :)

If you did not like the game a few years back, feel free to try it on Antonia Bayle and get in touch with our guild. The game has been evolving every year, so perhaps in combination with our guild, you might get a different experience this time. We would love to guide you through and help you enjoy it as much as we do.

I have been in and out of EQII since launch, unfortunately because of my time in the Armed Forces and now working overseas on a 5 'on', 5 'off' rotation I have never been able to play other than casually.

This guild and concept sounds like exactly what I am looking for - I can only ever play casually and have usually ended up getting left behind when trying to play in groups for any length of time. I will either transfer my toon or start a fresh one and then give you a shout when I am back home at the end of the month if that's ok?

  • laxielaxie Member RarePosts: 1,123

Happy to hear you would like to join the family!

It is perfectly fine to join later this month or the next. I doubt you will get left behing in our guild. I personally love going through low level content and so does everyone else. We just did Wailing Caverns last night, which is a level 14 dungeon and it was a lot of fun. We are very much looking forward to meeting you ingame! :)

Best of luck on your travels both inside and outside Norrath,

    Laxie :)

I too have come from an extended time of RL. I came back to the game after several betas and time away from games. My old guild is on Fennin Ro which has since merged with Permafrost. No one is on these days unfortunately due to a large migration to Rift or they only log in for raids.

I've started a character here on AB and I'll see if EQ2 is still my game. If I stick around I've got a 90 Monk and an 84 Dirge I'll think of moving.

My newb Templar I just created is called Quests.

One thought, are you guys East Coast or West Coast? I'm in Alaska thus it is harder to play with East Coast folks. I did that back in the EQ1 days, no more getting up and raiding at 4am on a Saturday for me.

  • bosmer24bosmer24 Member UncommonPosts: 116

I played rifts for about a month, then it just got old.I couldn't bring myself to log in to play it anymore. Now that Station access is only twenty dollars i get to play my favorite 3(EQ,EQ2,Vanguard) again.I have a 83 ranger on permafrost, and a 26 swashy.

If you ever decide to play Vanguard i have a 39 Ranger on the US server( i forget the name of it the server)I love mentoring.Something about Sony games just offers more depth then traditional class/level progression games.Rifts actually made me miss playing EQ2.

  • quietasquietas Member UncommonPosts: 15

I had played Vanguard during the beta, but I could not buy it with all the bugs still there that Sony ignored initially. I hear it's much much better now, but the initial bad press hampered a good game.

You  know, I've always wanted to play EQ2, never got around to it.  Got some time to kill for the next few months while we wait on some of the newer titles, and your idea here sounds interesting. (I only have time for casual play these days)

So I might try to look you up at some point today or tomorrow.

Edit: Decided to go a different route and am currently playing on EQ2X server.

I have been thinking of getting into EQ2, but can't figure out this whole payment system thing. I remember it used to be just pay monthly. Now it looks like the normal monthly subscription doesnt get you the full game, and you have to do $200 per year?

I had thought about buying it on Steam, but if I can't just pay monthly, I don't think I will be getting it any time soon.

  • quietasquietas Member UncommonPosts: 15

EQ2 has two different games. One is the EQ2 Live, that is your normal subscription model at $15/month and lower rates for higher numbers of months. Then there is the newer EQ2 Extended, this is a freemium Free 2 Play model. The F2P version is quite gimped unless you get the top tier. If you want to see what the game is like I'd suggest Extended is great, but after level 20 or so you really start to feel it.

  • EbonrookEbonrook Member Posts: 11
So if I got EQ2 on steam, I wouldn't have to do the silly $200 a year thing? Do I get the full access on live? What version is this guild for?
  • laxielaxie Member RarePosts: 1,123

If you bought the game on steam and paid for it, then you have the Live game. It comes with a free month of play and then charges around 15$ a month.

We are playing the Live game on the Antonia Bayle server, which is the one with probably the highest population.

You are more than welcome to join us there!

The alternative is extended, which comes for free but you are charged for "unlocking content" so if you actually start playing the game and want to enjoy all of its features, you end up spending over 15$ a month anyway (in my opinion).

I actually missed you ingame several times. Hope to see you around again! :)

Edit: Oh and about the timezones, I myself am from Europe, but we have members from pretty much every timezone and when we start doing events, they will be at various times so we can facilitate everyone :)

Because of the nature of our guild, it's not a problem to set up individual times for dungeon runs or things like that. :)

Hi Laxie , just read your thread here and currently downloading EQ2 on old account I had. It's got all the expansions through last years except Velious one. (is that issue for new characters or would I even notice Velious expansion at all at low levels ?)

Anyway , am married/kids/job(s) but would love to have a friendly group of folks to login and play with when I have the chance , no idea of class going to play but I definitely would like to look you all up tomororw or the next day if don't mind a casual player who'd like to give EQ2 another go.

Until late 80's there is no need for DoV. I wasn't going to bother, but I restarted playing my monk as well.

I am downloading the game as I speak, I won't be on until later as I have to attend my County's Show today.

What should I make a good, evil or neutral  character? Any recommendations for beginners?

I am a Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings (Books) nut, so anything that might make me think of them (especially GoT) would make for a nice suggestion.

Thanks guys, I look forward to playing with you :)

    Hmmm...

I've been toying with the idea of coming back to EQ2.  I just might drop you a line.

  • quietasquietas Member UncommonPosts: 15

I myself prefer the good side (Qeynos) for the city layout. Later on in the game it really doesn't matter since it is what factions you choose.

The are good and evil starting zones. Neutral characters do not have their own zones. The content is the same after level 25ish. Plus you can do what is called a "Betrayal Quest" which takes around 2-3 hours for new players and it changes the factions for you.

I am not that familiar with the Evil starting zones, but if you like a "darker" feel to things, they are definitely worth checking out.

When it comes to good zones, you can either start in New Halas, which is the newest starting zone in the game. It is an icy island, which takes you from level 1 to level 20.

Another zone is Kelethin, which is city of the Fae, flying things that love the nature. It is a huge forest with a city in the trees a lot of mushrooms and stuff like that :)

Also keep in mind that some classes are good/evil only and eventhough they usually have their counterpart with the other faction, these two classes end up being slightly different in time. So if there is one class that sticks out, make sure to take that into account aswell when choosing the starting zone/alignment :)

    Best of luck,

    Laxie

Thanks for the advice. Does being Good/Evil effect being able to join in with you guys? Can good and evil work together in the game?
