Matrix Online: I never liked the movies, so I'm never going to like this game.
Dark and Light: Now this is a game that has a great promise. I hope to see this become the standard form of all MMORPG in the future.
Darkfall: I've only briefly checked it out. Seems to have promise.
Tabula Rasa: No idea what this is
Guild Wars: This never managed to catch my interest.
I doubt there is anyone who can possibly tell the future of any of these titles, not even the devs involved seen from recent events in the MMORPG world.
Originally posted by r1tual never heard of it. there are tons of sucky mmorpg's noone has heard about in development. these are the more "popular" ones.
O....K... so I guess being the the top 5 hype list isn't classed as a "popular" one.

Mourning is consistently on the "most anticipated mmorpgs" list on the front page of this site..... oh nevermind. I vote that most of them will tank before they even release.
Everytime an mmo is canceled an angel gets its wings.

THis wasnt a which game is good its a which game is likely to get cancelled. Judging from the current votes, you people don't know the difference. Dark and Light is most likely to get cancelled as its the most ambitious project. Darkfall and Face of Mankind only because they are from smaller development studios. Tabula Rasa, MXO and Guild Wars are all mainstream launches and won't be cancelled. TR is the lowest profile mainstream launch but Lord British is on it, so it likely won't be cancelled. No reason for a vote, really, basic logic. Dark and Light shoudl be in the lead here for cancellation, not the last place. (Note I love DNL :P)
Well lets just say its a given mourning will be cancelled last out of all these, and therefore did nto fit in the timeframe that these would be cancelled.
I also had never heard of it myself, and I come to thise website everyday.
If I ever been to the website I must of thought it sucked so bad, I was going to erase it from my memory.
I think Face of Mankind is going to be a great game but stands little chance of making it to release. I followed the game for a while a ways back and it was a big deal back then but not too long ago the forums there hit a dead calm. I haven't really been keeping tabs on the game since then but I doubt there's been much change. They've changed the site again but I doubt that will make any difference lol. I think the game is cool, but if games like Wish are getting canceled FoMK doesn't stand a chance. Dark and Light may face the same issue. They have a little bit larger fan base and their forums are always active but some of the dev team members have left from what I've been told and back in December this caused them to hit a rough spot financially, well who's to say that won't happen again in the near future.
It seems these days all you need to make it to release is a big name backing the project like Blizzard or Sony. The quality of the game doesn't seem to have much to do with it anymore if they can release crap like Horizons and EQ2 lol. Hope I didn't offend anyone there and if I did, I'm sorry.
"This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away, to the horizon, to the future. Never his mind on where he was hurmph! What he was doing Hurmph! Excitement heh. Adventure heh! A jedi craves not these things. You are reckless."
I am thinking Mourning, for the same reasons that Wish was canceled.
They are shooting for a heavy Dev involvement in storyline, as Gods or some such. And I wonder if these smaller dev companies wil be able to get enough subscribers to pay for these full time storyline devoted devs.
Not that I want it to be mind you.
I just feel that they are never going to pull it off as there will be so few players that are given access to this kind of unscripted content that the novelty will wear off after awhile when players find that they have about a .001% chance of being 'blessed' by the gods or whatever, and bail.
i can tell you the two on the list that i know for sure ARENT going to be cancelled, matrix online, and guild wars. they have the preorder boxes for both games in my EB right now, and they are made by large companies. the one that is most likely to be cancelled i think is darkfall, although this games ideas sound promising the graphics arent really up to par, and its made by a smaller company. we will just have to wait and see though.

Good news friend, Face of Mankind is not going to be cancelled With open beta drawing near, duplex is making great progress on this game.
You should go back to forums, coz they are alive once again. As you could have reat, the distributor who is backing DPS on this is a well known german company and they give duplex enough time to make the game really complete, not just half finished like most of the other games.
I can say the game will be great and it will be released.
Btw. i am not developer, neither a fanboy.. i just like games that appel to me

Umm... Earth and Beyond went retail and they got cancelled shortly there-after. I don't think putting out pre-order boxes is an indication of success.
In my opinion Mourning will be the first cancelled, mainly because of the very very long development time they already needed. The other will probably all release,
I don't know much about darkfall so I won't comment on that.

People aren't saying this. The small companies can't compete with the larger companies. Don't make false quotes.
All of the top games are made by large companies- SWG, EG, WOW, FFXI
we are making FW on a 0$ budget and doing it out of the love of making games and we are not trying to compete with bigger companies...we are making this game for our community we have and ourselves.
i know FreeWorld was not on your list of games to be canceled.....but it really bugs me that people would think a game would be canceled just because its a small company. The fact is most of the games that have gone down the tubes in the last year had money behind them. If you have nothing to lose except time, why stop if its something you care about.there is no way i would ever stop making FreeWorld. This is a product of love and not for money.
we have done it with a 0$ budget this far.....what would stop us from completing it?
even if i had to complete by myself it will get done.
Face of Mankind - Recently signed with someone, so death is improbable.
The Matrix Online - Backed by WB. They had the gall to push out Reloaded and Revolutions, so no doubt they will push out MxO no matter what the fans think.
Dark and Light - Wish seemed to be their primary competition. Anyone on the Wish bandwagon will be moving to this one, consolidating the fan-base and resources. Improbable.
Darkfall - Don't hear much about this one. Probably the most likely from this list to go down.
Tabula Rasa - Backed by Richard Garriott and NCSoft. Doubt it will go down.
You guys are leaving off a biggie from your list, Middle Earth On-line. The fact that it didnt even make your list proves the game is off the radar and dead in the water.
The game originally had a release date of summer 04, then Oct 04, then Dec 04, now it has no official date and still hasnt even started beta yet. The momentum from the movies is long gone so the devs have blown what little chance they had.

None.
Darkfall.

Just vote for the heck of it. Nobody here knows, this is why we are voting, we are GUESSING.
But thanks for being a VOTING WUSS!

I guess the answer will be if they come close to their release date for Mourning, which is next month.
and yes, I have pre-ordered it.
