Hmmm, not sure how to start out this post but here it goes.
For the past 6-7 years or so I've managed to play a rather nice assortment of MMO's starting off with Conquer Online back when it was freshly released. Although I'm not sure about the actual time frame as my memory regarding when I started isn't exactly there. Anyway, after all these years of playing I've managed to play and enjoy Conquer Online, Eudemons Online, Eve Online and of course Wow.
As a rather experienced and now semi retired gamer of 24 years I've been trying to find a game that has a casual/hardcore focus but gives you an almost refreshing feel when it comes to MMO's. I've tried a large assortment of different F2P games with little to no success of getting involved, it just seems boring after awhile of the same standard questing and killing x mobs over and over.
Anyway, the only game I truly did enjoy was Eve Online. Yes I would go back to play but being engaged I kind of want to find a game that you could happily play with your spouse and work together to build up something. Such as a home, or well anything really and even possibly get married in game like a few other games I have played that present bonuses to couples playing. She is rather picky being almost completely Anti-pvp where I enjoy both elements of the game pve and pvp wise. We have greatly enjoyed playing WoW together on and off for a couple years now, but the game just isn't what it used to be. She's not the greatest skilled at playing and got left out of raiding at times as well there was just burn out from the game after so long. We've both played it for over 4 years in total, just 2 years as a couple even planning to hold an ingame wedding ceremony at one time which ended up not happening do to resubbing issues. I have yet found a game where there is a balance between pvp and pve with elements where you get the same satisfying feeling of playing with your partner that wow gave, although I was enjoying Iris online until around level 20 but it was rather short lived as there didn't seem like there was really anything unique about the game and she just wasn't interested.
So getting down to the point I'm open to any beta's out there that I could start playing that could provide for me and my sweetheart a wonderful gaming experience with maybe even having items in the game you can collect like vaniety pets in wow. Something she was over obssessed about having almost 130 in total.
Anyway, if there's anyway you guys can help offer some advice that would be awesome. Sorry if it's not a very helpful post as it's difficult to put my brain on a piece of paper. But if you have any questions, feel free to ask

city of heroes is a good game to play with a partner or group, you can try Darkfall but the PvE sucks, I think cityof heroes has a 7 day trial
Thanks, I'll give it a try and see how it is... I'm going in with not getting my hopes up, maybe I'll be surprised lol
I looked at a few screenshots of the game and it seems a bit... Childish for better terms. Although definitely does look interesting, I was hoping for a more mature looking game although it's definitely not a requirement.
you could try AoC on a PvE server. that would still offer you some pvp and keep her happy with the pve and community building of a good guild getting started.

yes city of heroes and city of villians are great mmo's to play for either a casual or hardcore player. i played it for about 6 months back a couple years ago and i liked it alot. good luck and i hope u like it.
Games I will be playing are: TES V, SWTOR, ME 3, TSW
Thanks for your suggestions guys, I will look into both of those games. Aoc was stirring in my mind for awhile now, but I'm a bit worried about a stable community due to their failure to hold subscribers from what I've read. I was also recommended dark age of camelot, so I'll check that one too. I'm still open for ideas though, kind of wish the DBZ mmo would have come out in NA I think that would have some rather interesting gameplay to it.
I'm sure i'll get blasted for this but you might wanna check out vanguard. it doesn't have the pvp but it has a really good pve game and the community (although small) is great. Twiglyght song guild has 1300 members and usually has at least 20 people on at all times for raiding/dungeons.
the reason i make the suggestion is that the pve is a little more hardcore than some other games and a duo could have alot of fun exploring the huge seamless world. i believe it also has pet collecting. and it sounds like soe might be going to give it a little attention.
anyway just my 2 cents
I wish the AoC install and downloader didn't use the fail FTP protocol for downloading game files. They install one file at a time causing installation to take hours instead of minutes. QQ oh well 7.5 gigs shouldn't take that long... I hope. lol *Still prefers the half hour it should take to download via p2p network installation protocols blizzard uses* Oh well, can't expect the world
I might check out that game as well, I'm pretty open to trying various kinds considering my wife's extremely picky nature with games. The more good options I have the better chance I have of her accepting one lol
the other great thing with VG is that you download the trial and then sub when you're ready, no game to buy. if you want to there are still collector's editions rambling around on the net i think, i got mine for 10bucks.
and the suggestion is accurate. VG is one of my 'home' games, a game i always end up coming back to sooner or later. any of the race/class combos would work well together. even the healers do dps, are supposed to do dps in some cases in order to heal. so you could take the pressure off the whole tank + healer combo, if you wanted.
the other good news is that a recent announcement from SoE is that VG is about to get some dev support now that SWG is gone. but there's enough duo content to keep you 2 busy for a year or more at least.

A more mature and in depth game would be Vanguard, good luck
im playing both AOC and Vanguard and found vanguard to be really good, but the adult content of AOC and the graphics is fun and is getting me more immersed. Both well worth a play and underrated, AOC recommended if i was to pick one (until end game at least)
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D
I finally managed to finish downloading and installing the almost 18 gig download for AoC. Little did I realize that there's a download capping option in options, that was quite frustrating to find in the end considering I could have fully utilized my download speed. Oh well.
Anyway, I have to say starting Age of Conan I am rather impressed. It gives you a feeling of a single player game and slowly immerses you into the multiplayer aspect the more you go along, you hardly even realize you start at level 1. In about an hour you get to level 6 and you're like. "Wow... I've already levelled that much." It's pretty awesome.
As for vanguard, I'm going to try it out when I know I can afford to sub to it if I get interested. Nothing sucks more then playing a game then having to stop because you're too broke to keep on going lol. I thank you guys for this feedback, and yes I'm still open to much more as I'm still not sure if she'll find the games interesting like I do. I sure as hell hope so though
if you dont care much about graphics, i would say try Istaria, buy a land plot and build your own "village"
I'd suggest Lotro if you find AoC doesnt suit you.
Playing: Darkfall New Dawn (and planning to play Fallout 76)
Favourite games have included: UO, Lineage2, Darkfall, Lotro, Baldur's Gate, SSX, FF7 and yes the original Wizardry on an Apple IIe
or if you want something really different, try wurm, haven & hearth or ATitD
Everquest 2 you can play on the freeserver though you are limited in what classes and races you can play. You get access to all expansions except the last one. It has some of the best crafting and housing in the mmorpg genre. on the free server it is highly populated at all times. I do recommend upgrading to the silver membership for $10.00 but that isn't really required to play the game. There is lots of content to run through you can actually play all the way to level 90 without ever spending a dime in the game.
Downside to the freeserver is that if you decide you would rather play on the pay servers you cannot transfer your characters from the freeserver to a live server. If you were to decide to stay on the free server but just go with a Gold membership you will get all the classes but the races are not included. I think you get 4 races for free out of I think 18 races. there are 8 classes for free out of 24 available. you will hear some say that the good and evil form of the classes are the same thing. they are not (not anymore anyway). there are PVP BattleGrounds for free if you go to the pay servers there are 2 or 3 PVP servers I think could actually be more.
I like to thank you guys for all of your ideas... I am honestly almost completely shocked there hasn't been one troll attempt or flame lol. Anyone know about how Runes of Magic is? Just downloaded it as another idea, haven't got deep into it yet as I'm just level 2. Age of Conan was good, though my wife didn't like it when she tried it awhile back unfortunately. Like I said, she's a picky one lol
I would second this. I bet your fiance would love it.
"lotro" being Lord of the Rings".
It's free to play OR subscription.
otherwise I will also suggest Vanguard. But Vanguard is not for everyone.

I play Darkfall with my Girl and she loved it so much that I cannot talk her into playing anything else with me.
IT is definitely worth a try as I think its the best game out there right now for long-term entertainment. Its not as good to play for only a few months and then move on like so many other games are.
