Too many options, What to play as?!

EbonrookEbonrook Member Posts: 11

I have only just bought EQ2 on steam, but I still haven't played.

There are just too many options for me to decide what I want to play as! I could really use a hand deciding too!

Thanks guys.

The large amoutn of classes is what makes it great.

why don't you give us a little help on what your play style is and what you like in a class so we can offer suggestions.

A easy to start guide would be this.

Decide which statment you most fit to

I like getting up close and doing damage.

I like getting up close and tanking damage

I like doing damage from a far

    I like being supportive.

If you fall into the first statement your going to want something like a swashbuckler or assassin

If you fall into the second statement your going to want a tank type class, warrior type usually works.

If you fall into the third statement then you want a Wizard type class.

If you fall into the last one your going to want something like a warden iquistor or enchanter type class.

Depends really on what you want to do.  What do you picture is the ideal type of thing you want to do.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Well I tend to like damage. I don't mind tanking and healing but I tend to panic under the pressure of big groups.

I had looked at scouts like swashbuckler, do they have to be stealthy or is that just a play option?

If it helps other fantasy stuff I like is Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Carribean.

Thanks for the info guys, I really am still struggling to decide, but I am gonna lean towards Beserker.

I would go for one of the Scout classes like Swashbuckler for melee damage, but I don't really enjoy stealth that much in games.

it is often played that way, but with the Alternative Advancement trees you can actually build an offtank Swashie who uses sword and shield, a fencer who debuffs, etc.

what you'll find is that with the AA system you can basically shift any of the classes just enough toward another class to make it playable.

for instance, i am playing a bunch of characters, but my highest is an Inquisitor. now normally an Inq is a healer/debuffer. however, with my AA placed right, b/c i like to solo quest, my Inq is a melee dps/healer. so i can't heal as good in a large group or in long boss fights, but i can do enough to keep a small party up and throw in some dps.

thats just an example, im not suggesting you play an Inq. instead im trying to show you how you can build a character using AA to suit your playstyle. it just might take some time. so at first, you might have to be more stealthy as a swashie than you want, but soon enough youll be sword and shield in hand or dual wielding your foes out in the open (there's even an ability called "Walk the Plank" that makes your target turn around so you can use your back stabbing abilities that normally require stealth.)

if you've got the account and your paying for the sub, id say go ahead and make a swashie, try it out to lvl 20 and see how you like it! i have one as well and he's my second highest character and i love my little Ratonga Swashbuckler.

berserker is fun as well. i hope you enjoy, and don't forget to take a good look at your AA trees once you get past lvl 10 so you can figure out how to customize that zerker the way you want.

chelan has given you a few good pointers. AAs are important and also, after lvl 20, hit K and go to the Research tab and you can learn upgrades of spells....very handy tool.

Berserker is a fun class to play.  It's a solid tank for group stuff but does generally better DPS than guardian, and has more AOE.  I will say that EQ2 is one of the few games in which I do like the kind of stealth/positioning fighting style that the Swashie or Brigand do.
