Some advice for new players

If anyone is playing this game for the first time there are a couple of things it might be worth knowing...

I've levelled two Defiant characters almost to 50, a mage at 47 and a warrior at 43 so far. One thing i've realised too late that I wish i'd known before is that, unlike most games, it isn't necessary to do all the quests in every zone in order to progress and it makes sense to hold off from doing some zones until you have an alt and you can quest with them. There's nothing worth than grinding through the same old quests with your alt that you did with your main.

1-27  -  You don't have a choice really, it's Freemarch and then Stonefield or Silverwood and then Gloamwood if you're Guardian.

Around 30 it gets interesting. You'll make your way into Scarlet Gorge after Stonefield/Gloamwood (from the north or south) and you might be tempted to finish it all and alternate with Scarwood reach but this might leave you overpowered (and mindlessly button bashing) later on. Personally i'd level here to around 35 and then leave. In my opinion these two zones add very little to the game and are fairly dull, although they are good RvR zones (something Trion should exploit more in my opinion).

At 35 you could take one of two paths:

If you like the 'northern Europe' scenery (mountains, ice and snow, forests) then do Moonshade Highlands -> Iron Pine Peaks -> Stillmoor

If you like the eastern deserts, palm trees and tropics then do Scarwood Reach -> Droughtlands -> Shimmersand

What you will also find is that your two characters have different levels of notoriety with diifferent factions, adding another layer of uniqueness.

I have resubbed Rift. Played a couple of months right before launch and after. Of course the game isn't packed with players like then, but I was pleasantly surprised to find servers with plenty, even high , populations still. Even in the noob areas. Some things never change. Within a short while some crappy girl toon (see "Girl Gamers Go Wild" for more information about female gamers on this site) mined a node out from under me while I fought a mob for it. Could have been Kathy Lee Griffith I guess. And another high level was dominating rifts and need rolling in the lowbie area. That behavior is in every game these days I guess. Anyway. Having a good time. Will do me until the slew of new games hits later.
