Release won't be in 2011 for NA. Best bet is a Q1/Q2 2012 release date as they first need to translate the whole thing.
It'll be a lot longer than Q1 2012, looking at the history of game translation it generally takes a year and there's no publisher for NA yet, I reckon 2013. Better dust up on your Korean if you want to play the JUICIEST mmo
Do we even know a release date for anywhere?
I'd expect to be six months post the Korean/Asia release date.

Kyleran: "Now there's the real trick, learning to accept and enjoy a game for what it offers rather than pass on what might be a great playing experience because it lacks a few features you prefer."
John Henry Newman: "A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault."
FreddyNoNose: "A good game needs no defense; a bad game has no defense." "Easily digested content is just as easily forgotten."
LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you playing an MMORPG?"
Who said they haven't already started the translation ?
As much as i am looking forward to this game unless that 2011 date up there is for NA why is this game even listed i mean why not just list Tera online as released while we are at it , not trying to troll its just a big tease when we have no idea when this game will be out in NA.
On top of that with the hype this game is ranked higher than almost every game on this site I mean this game being listed at all in my eyes is almost like dissinformation if the NA release had a big ? up there i would have nothing to complain about
No chance for NA/EU on 2011.
There is still at least one more Asian closed Beta, then afaik around November there will be Open Beta in Korea (well it might be open to Koreans only who knows no info). So even in Korea I would say December is earliest release date.
For NA or /and EU release most important is thing is publisher(s). Sooner publisher is found sooner game is released.
For example afaik Chinese publisher is already translating ArcheAge with cooperation with XLGames and planning betas (don't remember if open or closed though).
So I think publsher will need at least 6 months to translate and get distibution ,etc ready , so just keep your fingers crossed for finding a publisher.
I am betting Q2-Q3 2012 for NA / EU releases. Unless maybe publisher will "be found" very soon , then (very big maybe) sooner
I think it's quite humorous that most sandboxes get very high hype ratings, yet most people consider them niche games.
Obviously off topic, it's just funny to me.
I'd be surprised to see ArchAge released in 2012.
The reason this is listed is because there was a lot of posts asking for it to be listed.

This site reports the release as "2011".
ya i am totally cool with the game being listed i am just a tad frustrated with a game with more hype than SWTOR having what i would call a missleading release date , under games in development its ranked # 2 behind GW2
there are very few good sanbox games on the horrizon heck ya they should list the game and give info for those that wanna know
I wish it would come out sooner because it is a graet game from what i hear. But the release date for the game is listed as 2011 because it has released in Korea. Well almost but for us its goina be a while time its over here the game will be either a top game in korea or a failure. So it might end up us being like a relaunch to try and save the games quailty and the work put into it.

A 2012 release date is just as misleading if the release date isnt publically known. And who cares if it has more of a hype score than SWTOR. Since neither game is released no one can say which is better. Additionally, when they are released you will still have people who think one or the other are better. The fact that they put a 2011 release shouldnt be an issue because anyone can do research. Its just a guess, as much as a guess as gamestop saying a game will release on December, 31 for a placeholder.
If someone cares enough they will find out its a placeholder. For all we know they could be awesome and release this year (we do have about 4 months left in this year), but no one really knows.
I wish they'd just give us a subtitled version. It'd be so much faster than translating voiceovers and everything, and IMHO, would sound a lot better, anyhow.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
Seems like more and more these days, these games are in the hands of out of touch corporate suits. People who might have good business sense when it comes to aspects of the entertainment industry they're familiar with, but they're just clueless n00bs when it comes to gaming - and game related business decisions.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
I think we need to be patient folks. Archage clearly looks like a potential next gen mmorg and it will be in demand from a publishing point of view, so there must be some serious negotations going on. It is not going to be 2011 and indeed why on earth would be want it released prematurely, and I for one want it to be released when it is ready and not a moment before. Fingers still crossed.
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D
One year after Korean release, thats how it works with games from other languages (if you want proper translations than google translate)
So you are looking at 2013 easily
Its funny when people say its next gen, I think graphically yes. This game was first designed in 2003 (When XL games was founded), it might be next gen at that point, but with GW2 and maginally SWTOR, than TERA and even Blade and Soul (Jake Song personally said how impressed he was by Blade and Soul, and he hope to not clash with BnS release), its hard to say ArcheAge is the next-gen game anymore (note that I'm one of the first people who liked ArcheAge even before this game was listed here, so I'm by no means trying to bash it)
ArcheAge is reinovating itself by going back to the root of MMORPG like Lineage and UO, it will be a great sandbox title, but I'm just not sure about the next gen hype anymore.
As to people saying why ranslation takes so long, this is because developers usually can only acquire enough funding to develop one version of the game (most people aren't funded by EA) thus they need to release the game in one version then acquire enough funding for localization in others. HAte to break it to you, but developing game requires money, its not simply you want to do it and be able to.
PS: I found some combat videos on their main site, so enjoy http://www.archeage.com/en/contents/gameinfos/ability/28

I wish this game would release in NA this year..
I think and hope this game will release next year in NA / EU.. It just feels like they a treating us like a target audience.
What do you mean, "first designed in 2003?" I thought it began development in 2006, and has probably evolved as a concept since then. I think I read that TOR also began, at least conceptually, in 2006. Guild Wars 2, in 2007.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
Well design and development is a bit different, its like pre-production phase of a movie, you sit down and iron down the concepts first, before you do any modelling and indepth design. Game development, at least for games trying new things, requires a long phase of conceptualisation of a lot of systems and ideas that are going to take place in the game itself, not to mention backstory and lore. They do prototypes of different ideas to see if the ideas actually work together and see if a proper game can be create out of it. At this phase, they aren't actually sure if the plan is going forward, but the game is definitely being designed already, but just trial and a whole lot of errors. Games don't pop out of the minds just like that, not like forum goers thinking THAT idea in their mind can easily be the greatest game ever made :P
XLgames was founded in 2003, ArcheAge is their first game, if it was first started in 2006, what were they doing in those 3 years. Jake Song mentioned somewhere before (I think at Korea GDC, but I couldn't be stuffed to find that sole one article and read through it again :P) that he was working behind the scene to iron out ideas with a small team since 2003.
But yes, ArcheAge went into developement in 2006, but thats when they already know where the game is going to head towards. They already know what they are trying to achieve and what they need to do to get there. I'm sure its the same as GW2 and SWTOR, they were first developed in 2006-2007, but they were bouncing ideas way before that. Genius doesn't come in a second, it requires many inspiration and work to get there.
