Interesting. Will watch this one for sure. Though more info would be nice. What kind of MMO will that be? Not mmorpg I presume? So some kind of strategyMMO? 0_o Wonder how that would look like. Anyway still worth to keep eye on this project.

I don't know any details whatsoever about a CIV MMO, but I wonder how they could achieve it.  One of the main facets of Civ is the progression through time.  How would you mirror that in an MMO?  Would love to see it, but I just don't see how.

    From the makers of ArcheAge.

So, does ArcheAge have a cash shop? Or is it a P2P game?

I think that would indicate which direction Civ would go as well.

Not decision about ArcheaAge business model yet. But fan sites seem to both favour and expect P2P heavily.

Though I really hope it is P2P without cash shop. I really do. With AA beign themepark/sandbox mix cash shop imho would severely cripple sandbox features and whole feeling of immerseviness this game will hopefully give.

I am hoping to like AA and choose it to be my long-time mmorpg (alsp because I will have less time to play in coming months/ years than now) , especially looking that It might provide other interesting things apart from combat (open big world , crafting , housing , ships ,etc)  and I will gladly pay for it.  If it will go F2P I will not touch it though :/

This type of game + F2P cash shops ,etc = fail imho.

So I really really hope for p2p.

But I dont think it will have indiction on CivMMO , remember AA is XLgames project only , while with CivMMO I think 2Kgames might more to say about what business model will be used than Xlgames.

I hope they make it an MMO strategy game and not try to make it into some crazy MMORPG loosely based on Civ.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

The Civ series is one of my favorite of all time. However, there is a lot of opportunity here to make this awesome or to screw it up or both. I'd really like to hear more details about this before I get excited.

What if, instead of a complete game, they created a civilization engine that could be licenced/reskinned for other game worlds to use?

What is the average development time for an mmorpg these days?

Great, something to look forward to in that time range.

There wasn´t any official anouncement for CivWorld, since it is in Beta (by 2kGames)
or Dungeon Overlord (bv Sony Online)
or Heroes of Might and Magic Worlds (by UbiSoft)

Lemme guess, what Blizzard´s Titan is.

You know, I loved the old Civ games, Civ2, Civ3 and Call to Power... but the later Civ games have all been mediocre and Civ5 was just bad, it was way to simplified. And making a MMO? Nah. I want a new Civ with is REALLY complex as the old Civs used to be, one for me alone and not with some Online hectic.

    Pass.

I've often wished they made Civ games with all different themes.  I love the gameplay, but the historical setting gets old after a while.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

I'd like to see features of Civ in an MMO.

Let's start with something like DAoC, at least 3 factions and capturing Keeps.

Now add being able to gather and control resources, and building "wonders".

    That would be pretty cool.

    http://www.cheatbook.de/wfiles/civilizationiiwonders.htm

Or if "wonders" could be captured for a time, something like that.

    For example:

    Sun Tzu's War Academy
Function: All new ground units produced gain Veteran status. Any unit which
wins a combat gains Veteran status.

Its biggest flaw is that it's made
obsolete by Mobile Warfare, an advance that is likely to be
prioritized by good players, but despite that it is very useful to
have in the early to midgame stages.

A cool ability, Veteran status, but it can be countered by Mobile Warfare.
