Assholes don't let you cancel your order even if it's only a few hours old. Wanted to switch to Amazon since gamestop don't care how long you wait for your codes. A big price like 175$ is not enough to get quick service it seems. Should have read the forums BEFORE choosing a company. Got screwed again.
edit: gamestop not spot... did the error twice... fail

Er, you always can cancel an order before it ships, if not, tell your credit card company to charge them back.

Well... i sent them an email to ask why they're not sending the code as soon as the order is confirmed. Then my cancel button disapeared from gamestop's site. Probably a coincidence... still annoying.
Maybe theres a time limit? I know with Best Buy they only give you an hour to cancel, but yeah if all else fails call your credit card company.
Gamestop online preorders with In-Store pick up usually run $1 just to test if the card is good, but they don't charge you unless you physically pick the game up. That is unless they've made a procedural change, because people were abusing the system to get into Betas and early releases, only to never pick up the game....like me.

Does anybody know if you pre order from Amazon do you get the pre order code instantly after you purchase it? Just wanted to know cause I stopped by Gamestop this morning and the Duff that worked there didn't know what I was talking about and asked did I want to pre order it on PS3. Thanks in advance.
humm, im doing an in store pickup, hopefully ill be able to cancel. if not, well, only 5$ for restocking.
After hearing about how Gamestop employees steal/hold back special order codes for themselves and friends I decided I was never going to preorder anything from them.
First choice will be the game developer directly so they get the majority of the money instead of the retailer. If they're not selling direct, then Amazon.
What difference does it make if you have to wait a couple of days for your code? They are not going to stop people from entering codes. What matters is that you get your pre-order in before they stop the pre-orders if you care about this kind of stuff.
There Is Always Hope!
I preorded from Gamestop.com, where is my stupid cookie dang rabbit. I keep telling myself I will not order from this craptastic company ever again. And what do I do, order. And as usual the online preorders will get get screwed. And yes, the time you enter the code determines when you can play, thats all over the SWTOR website for preoder. Still amazes me this company is still in business with all the problems it has. OH WAIT, im keeping it in business. Now where did I put that stupid cookie
The weird thing is someone (i don't recall who) stated something about the sooner you enter the code the more likely you have for a chance to get into the beta weeken or something. Either me or someone else might be able to find where this is stated. If that is the case (and i'm not remember it wrong) that might be the reason some people might be...more anxious to get the code right away.

From pre order page
"The order in which you redeem your Pre-order Code is the order in which you will gain Early Game Access before the game’s official release. So don’t wait and pre-order now!"
http://www.swtor.com/preorder
well haven't heard that, but what i have heard is that when you get into the head start is based on when you registered the pre-order code
edit wow its right there on the pre order page. that will teach me to skim as opposed to fully reading. XD

As someone who worked at Gamestop for four years (as an assistant manager and later as a store manager), I can tell all of you that shopping there is a great way to get ripped off, aside from those rare individuals who simply come in looking for a new game and absolutely nothing else. Mark up on trade in and accessories can be as high as 150% from value there, and while managing stores, it was my responsibility to make sure my employees were trying their hardest to take every last dime from every last customer. It's a viscious business, I've heard some within the company even compare it to used car sales, and it hinges entirely around getting customers to buy things they really don't need. This is so obvious to people working there that you're trained to view customers as numbers, or potential sales, and not as someone who shares a similar hobby, which has caused GS to have one of the worst retention rates in the retail industry.

Thanks whosaidwhat, thats what i remembered, just was mistaken on what the code gave.

I originally pre-ordered the regular version back in June with the intention of upgrading to the CE once it was available for pre-order. Stopped by Gamestop after work today, switched over to the CE, clerk rolled the $5 for the regular version to the CE, I put down the extra $20 for said CE, immediately got the early access code on the new pre-order receipt.
Sounds like the problem lies with your specific store's clerk, not with Gamestop as a whole.

Same thing here, minus the regular version and upgrading business.
I went to the store put 25 dollars down, got the code, came home put the code in and good to go.

Not gamestop stores, Gamestop online is were the problem is. And trying to call them at HQ you get they are busy and then they auto hang up
In the future you may want to go in-store for pre-orders. At least if anything goes wrong you have a name and phone number on the receipt to refer back to.
Hope it gets straightened out for you and you get your code. O:^)

i ordered the standard edition from amazon...got the email with a code within 2 minutes....done and done..
I have used Gamestop on a large number of occassions to pre-order, both in store AND on-line and I have never had a problem with them. I always got exactly what I was promised, when I was promised it. I even had one store employee chase me down two blocks because I had forgotten to get me receipt which had my pre-order code on it. For this reason alone I do not understand threads like this.
"If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?"
Just heard from EA, was told its not their problem and I have to take it up with the 3rd party vendor. Yup, looks like EA/Bioware gonna become the new Blizzard when it comes to dealing with issues.
I haven't bought anything from those weasels in years, pretty much ever since they screwed up with the last game I preordered. Can't remember what the game was, but I went to the store on release day only to be told (by the manager, no less), "Oh, that's the SHIP day, not the RELEASE day. Release day is tomorrow, come back then."
I immediately went to Best Buy, bought the game, came back to the store and shoved it in the moron's face while asking to have my preorder refunded. I walked out with my refund and haven't bothered with that horrid company since.
Plus y'know, the horrible prices they are willing to give for trade-ins. Protip: If you're going to sell the used copy for $50, then you should at least offer half of that for the trade-in, especially since it's in-store credit. Offering me $10 or less is just insulting.
Oh, and then they go buy out Impulse. BLECH. Dunno what the hell Stardock was thinking when they did that...
Let's remember to stay on topic.
Makes sense to not allow preorders to be cancelled then. Plus, according to the swtor forums, it's a madhouse... people are buying from three different sites and cancelling two just to make sure they get a CE and/or a code... it's a feeding frenzy.
No bitchers.
Not a fan of them really tbh, so I won't be buying from them regardless Everytime I go in there with my friend (who only goes there to sell his console games and get a pittiance back to buy more console games) I am kind of bothered with the price of everything. Seems like their used games are more expensive than buying it new from Amazon or ebay or whatever. Yeah I have to wait a couple days, but it's better than getting ripped off. I beleive the last time I bought something from them was when Wrath of the Lich King came out and me being a nerd went to go wait in line to buy it at midnight.
