According to the MMORPG.com front page, it's currently at the top of their list of Free to Play Games...

No, they tried to charge me yesterday. Apparently the game is not free to play.

Wouldn't the pay type be free too if it was F2P?
IT was free for a week. Kinda shows how fast they're losing people since end game is so boring and nothing to do really.
Hmmm could have swore they charged my CC a 3 month sub last week but, i might be mistaken.

It's pretty hard to tell the difference I guess. The retail charge is how much it costs to BUY the game to install it, where rift the client is free and so is an account. However to play you gotta pay a sub. Hopefully that clears it up.

Yes I am aware, but like many games I am sure if you make a trial and pay for a month's subscription you don't gotta buy the retail box... Forgive me if I'm wrong

Not free to play and it should be removed from the top free to play list. Sure you can download it free play for 7 days free but you have to buy the game digitially or boxed and put in a game key to unlock(no need for another download or install from disks) but this doesn't make it free to play at all. even when they host a free week like they did. So MMORPG. com needs to honestly remove it from that list on the front as it should have never been placed there to begin with in that list.
