Do you think the new Conan movie will boost AoC player base?

Momoa was good I thought..but everything else was lacking. It wasn't terrible. Keep Momoa for the sequels but get a Director and some scriptwriters that can better adapt Howard's stories. Jason Momoa will be a hundred times better with a decent script/story. The man should be a star between this franchise and his ..mostly silent..but good job on 'Game of Thrones". I'm surprised I'm saying this because I never really cared for him on "Stargate Atlantis". Guess it was his character or the show. idk.

    So.. it had all the technicalities... but was not good? Why wasn't it good? I don't get how anybody could say that the Arnold movie... -which had the worst dialogue of all time, with the only exception being a line stolen from a history book- can be better or more true to REH than this new movie. Can someone please cite a specific complaint?

    I thought the new Conan blew the old one out of the water. I have seen "Governor the barbarian" and I thought the first one was OK, but the second one was horrible. All of Arnold's movies are as if he borrowed Obama's teleprompter to say his lines. I know we tend to lean toward old school, but come on.

    I totally agree. The facial expressions he had were eerie when he was about to put the smackdown on someone. I thought he nailed the part. I thought he was a more realistic barbarian...not an unrealistic body builder.

    @Bigsmiff

    Hiliarious sig man, hiliarious.

    I am going to see the Conan movie this weekend. I have seen all the original Conan movies, along with Red Sonja and that Kevin Sorbo nonsense. I am over 40 years old....I remember these movies well. I also play AoC, albeit not much lately.

    Honestly, I am much more enthusiastic to see John Carter of Mars coming out next year. I read all of these books by Edgar Rice Burroughs and they were a fantastic series..one of my favorites.

    Not intended to derail the thread though.....hope this Conan movie is good.....will take some junior family members and see what they think.

    I wonder if some of the younger members can understand how large and epic the original Conan movie was when it came out. Watching that on the big screen was much different than seeing it on AMC.

    Playing: BF4/BF:Hardline, Subnautica 7 days to die
    Hiatus: EvE
    Waiting on: World of Darkness(sigh)
    Interested in: better games in general

    Whether the movie is good or not, I think the answer to the op's question is close to obvious...  It doesn't look like it will do much for AoC pop.  It got beat by Spy Kids 25 or whatever they're up to now for pete's sake.  A 10 mil US opening weekend is extremely weak.

    As far as comments on Jason Momoa.  Of course he hasn't been a huge named actor to this point but he's becoming more well known.  Also, he wasn't spouting "gibberish" in his role as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones.  They actually created a language for the show using a linguistics company.  He not only had to learn his lines, but learn them in an unfamiliar language and then provide the acting on top of that.  He was an integral part of the show's first season and his performance was praised by many, many sources during the season.  He was a total badass and a huge fan favorite - even at Comic-Con.  Additionally, Game of Thrones is nominated for the Emmy's in 13 categories, including best drama.  If you haven't watched the show, do so and then talk about it.

    two of Momoa's great scenes on youtube:

    ^^ another interview with Mamoa.  I have seen the movie twice now, and twice I have thought it was a great REH tribute.
