FU EA, and FU Bioware I expected far more from you.
Why? I don't know about Bioware, but EA certainly doesn't have a reputation for putting it's customers first. Strip mine the developers and shaft the consumers -- that's the EA way.
I think theres some question here on what record its breaking here. If its total preorder numbers across all platforms, then we're talking about something closer to the million mark or more. If we're talking about breaking the first week record? Thats another story though.
I think BC2 had something around 300K preorders total, with total sales of roughly 7 - 9 million. While I don't think SWTOR sales will reach that high, because lets face it, its only a single platform, its a decent estimation to believe that if BC2 only had say, 200K preorders, and BF3 had (lets say, conservatively) 7 times that amount, we do get into the millions, putting swtor closer to 1.5M or more. I think in that case though we're seeing probably the majority of the playerbase preordering the game, as I just can't see BioWares playerbase being more than 3 million strong when releasing only on PC and only in the west.
Then again, I could be way off base.... or.... way out in left field..... either way I'd probably be out, cause not only am I off base but I'm also in left field, and why would I be there if I'm running bases? I mean whats wrong with me? I'm losing the game for everyone, and you guys are just letting me do it. You should all be ashamed.
Goodbye WoW , it was a nice run! While I am suprised TOR is seeling like hotcakes, I'm really not suprised because it is Star Wars. Lets hope for a good launch.

thats a bit premature.
Yeah it has to be rate, because games like Halo and GTA are pre-ordered not in the 200.000's but in the 2 millions. It will be interesting to see how much it will rise over the months, but I agree with your comment about it being a bit premature.
After all, if there is anything as obnoxious as a hater, it must be a blind fanboy. For both groups of people though, Karma have a good way of coming back to hurt them. Don't jinx the game you want to play, haha.
Why should we customers care about EA records? The only thing that matters for us is quality of the product. 200.000 is not that much imho, considering how many there are SW and BW fans and lack of good MMOs on the market. I hope that many more will buy the game because a healthy player base is a must to enjoy an MMO.
You do realize that it has only been less then a week since pre-orders started, right?

LOL very premature to say goodbye WoW considering SWTOR is only planned for release in North America & Selected European locations. Thus limiting their potential player pool..... and leaving the wow subscribers in those regions largely unaffected I would expect. Presale could have been bigger too if they didnt do this.
There is currently no word on when or even if other regions will get releases of SWTOR. One of the dumbest moves in MMO history IMHO, I guess Bioware & EA just went Full Retard.

Pity WoW also did this but even more restrictively with only launching in the US initially.
I mean look at the absolute failure of WoW over the past 6 years where it made 'how many MILLIONS' for Blizzard? /sarcasm

That is the current "word" on the situation. You forget that WoW took several years to become as global as it is today, and many other MMOS are still only in 1-3 regions.

Yeah, lol Blizz was real unsuccessful with a very limited launch. You do limited launches to maintain levels of quality and support.
I saw thes headline about TOR breaking pre-order records and I thought, this sounds familiar. Didn't another EA MMO once say the same thing? And what did that portend for its future success?

Don't forget, that those countries that are region blocked, only pertains to the digital download from origin. Many people from those same countries already pre-ordered through amazon or gamestop. And Bioware came out(or at least replied to email's) and said that no country will have an IP block on them(or credit card block), so if they get the pre-order and their code they will still be able to play with everyone else when the game launches. Also got to remember they only had a set number up for pre-order when it was first announced and they all sold within hours. It was more to gauge their market I think. They are scrambling to get more pre-orders out there(im just not sure if they mean CE's as well or not). By the time this game launches it will definitely be huge as in pre-order's is concerned, and many people are not going that route. I personally like to wait a couple weeks or month until everything is smoothed out. Doesn't matter how smooth they want the launch, there are going to be problems with that many people playing the game on first day, always are.
Run to make your preorder! They gonna run out of digital copies!
I am pretty sure you are being sarcastic, so I will bite. They actually will run out of digital copies eventually, not because of stock, but because of network stability concerns. They will limit the number of pre-orders digitally in the same way they are planning to limit box sales. The difference is that with digital you will probably be placed in a que to download the game a few days or weeks later.(Depending on when you pre-order) and if you order the box they will just send it when they get more stock.
"Star Wars: The Old Republic set the new bar for EA's pre-order sales according the to the notes for the Q1 Fiscal Earnings Release. The previous bar was set by Battlefield 3, but according to President Frank Gibeau during the investor's conference call today, SWTOR far exceed BF3's pre-order sales. In fact, according to Gibeau the sales exceeded the company's expected sales curve, therefore breaking records no one at the game developing company could have expected."

TBH I couldnt care less what WoW did, I played it for a month or so during the vanilla days and found it extremely bland.
Warhammer online had a global launch & the launch was fine for the most part other than long server queues (stock control anyone ?) but now apparently they cannot manage that anymore..... its a joke really. Yes warhammer failed ultimately but not due to its launch, it failed because once you hit tier 3 the lack of balance and the fact that one class was severley OP became painfully apparent.
For a game like SWTOR where the constant emphasis is on story and avoiding spoiler by limiting Beta testing...... then you go and give some countries your game & story and they somehow wont spoil ti for everyone else ? lol good plan.
Its not so much what they are doing but how they have gone about it, just dropping a bombshell the day of pre-orders with absolutely no word on when any other regions will have access. Oh well.
Bioware and EA, going full retard since July 2011.
Run to make your preorder! They gonna run out of digital copies!

Change "Will" to "Could" and I would probably agree with you.
While it's theoretically possible, I highly doubt they will ever stop preorders because the demand is too great. It's more likely that they'd just bring extra servers online. They'll also start letting you download weeks before release, many due to the early access, so that the demand is spread out over time.

From my uncle.
He is also in charge of keeping track of Warcrafts subscription numbers.

What they mean by this is record breaking rate, not total I am sure.
Chalk me up as one of those pre-order folks.
God, can't wait!

200K lolzor......this is suppose to kill wow hehe, dont think so.
I do hope the game will be good tough but i didnt preorder just yet (i dont trust EA anymore, sorry)
The only positive about SWTOR is that its bioware (i realy LOVED Dragon age and Dragon Age 2).
Let's just wait and see B4 you start talking wow killers ok?

Stephen Reid actually stated that there will be servers available in other regions. There is just no time frame. http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=394103

Rofl. Yeah, I think we're all hoping for a much better outcome than WAR. But at least TOR isn't riding on the wings of DAoC.
