There's just somethin about this games graphics that i just dont like, I can't put my finger on it but i get an empty bland EQ2 feeling when I see them, and it feels like there just isn't enough there, like so much open space and emptiness that it just bugs me.
It has alot of realy kewl looking stuff like clouds and the trees but the way its all but together just isn't eye pleasing to me. And the toons kinda have that clay EQ2 feeling too them, really bloomy.
Meh this whole game bugs me, sounds really great but at the same time sounds like a Horizons story to me.
When the hype talks about the graphics, the size of the world, and the like...but says nothing about the gameplay...I tend to get skeptical. I don't care if the graphics are photo-realistic if the game itself isn't fun to play.
The screens are good and the pics are well taken i hear about this dark and light thing i avent a clue what it is about though lol but I may try for beta if it isnt closed

Don't worry, you will not be disappointed with the content also. I'll guarantee that.
Man I hate when I have to explain the gameplay over and over again. Unlike every other mmorpg Dark and Light would be far too tedious to list every single game play feature. Simply put it blows the competition away. Why do you think there is such a large fanbase when the game hasnt even attempted to advertise.
im sorry to say this, but as soon as i saw "DnL Uses player-levels" i stopped reading about it.
Another game where people at level 24 will beat level 22's - yay.
I have to admit though, if this game used a free-skill system where you cant have a level XXX char i'd be pretty impressed. But once youve tried the ultima-online-type skill system there no settling for the restrictive level-based skill systems in other games.
In Wow/eQ/whatnot, if you select a cleric class, youre stuck in that class for as long as you play the char. In UO, your char can be anything you like - a cleric/mage/treasure hunter/axeman, and if you find some of the skills you trained useless, just drop them and train something else. THATS how skills should work.

That is my biggest problem with DnL as of now, the reason I preferred Wish to it until it got canned. The devs didn't say much about how the lvls work (they never said much about anything, slowly leaking the info). I think you should give it a chance and wait to see how the lvls are implemented before you dismiss the game.

Oh yeah? that sounds kinda vague, forgive me for being skeptic.
I think whoever first implemented the char-level system has got issues. I cant see the logic in saying "my char is level XX". player-levels should be completely irrelevant in mmos.; you should be able to do what you want, and be what you want - and change if you want to.

Ok I'll play along.
Firstly this game may not be for you!
Secondly it's always better to do some reading before make sweeping statements.
Anyway here we go... hope this helps
Q: Is DnL skill or level based?
A: Both... "It is a combination. You earn social and fighting experience points for doing social or fighting actions respectively. These become available to spend on skills when you level up. Notice that Dark and Light has two types of experience points to spend. So lots of character customization but with forced specialization at higher levels."... Oaks
Yeah, you see thats where i dont see the logic... You can gain skill points for using your Axe to kill enemies, but then you can add those exact skill points (you gained with your axe) to get some cool ... say... cleric abilities.
Thats why i felt let down by DnL, this new cool "dual" system is actually what you see in all other mmo's, except that they added two new disctinctions, social and the other one. Its exactly the same as other mmo's except that in wow/eq2/whatever you gain ability points by reaching new player-levels. I agree the DnL system adds this social disctinction, but still sounds too restricted for me :
How does using an axe give you abilities in cleric spells? that doesnt make any sense to me. I say if you use your axe you should get better using your axe, but thats just me.
like ya said, DnL might not be the game for me, so halleluyah
No offense, but it seems to me that a lotta peeps are just peeved, because they wanted to get into beta. I have been trying since last December myself. and I have to say I'm pretty hyped. But as with all games, everything must come together in the final moments for everything to come together. We'll all get a chance to try it soon enough if it releases on 4/30 if everything comes together. Just my 2cp, Peace.

Can you please stop making assumptions everytime you post?
Yes, lets take what I felt was a GREAT experience and skill system which also had "levels" and that was the original Asheron's Call. The Levels were simply a measure of a players total experience, and nothing more. It didn't mean that a lvl 50 would always slaughter a lvl 25 player. In fact, many times... I seen and killed players double or triple my level simply based on strenghts and weakness (buffs, skills, technique, etc all figured in)
In Asherons Call, they also used a system where if you used a sword skill for example you would gain exp in your sword skill automatically and therefore increase in your sword skill. But as you were successful with skills and monster kills, spell casting, etc.. you also earned exp points to spend (I forget what they were called now).. but you could use exp you gained sword killing 100 mobs to increase your a magic skill or an intelligence stat or strength stat or whatever. This system worked VERY NICELY, and meant you had flexibility and CHOICES. Choices in the development of your avatar is what seems to be going away from recent mmo's. A pyramid only isn't enough options for me. I want much more freedom in building my avatar exactly as I want without having to go chop down 10 billion trees to actually have a skill in wood harvesting for example. I can put my "earned exp" into it instead if I so choose!

Don't list every game feature. Just give some bullet points on say, 10 specific things about the gameplay that will make it different/better than the other MMORPG's out there. I don't want to hear about how great the graphics are, I don't want to hear about how huge the world is...I want to hear about the gameplay.
Good sit back and listen to hear about all the things in Dark and Light. Lets start with leveling.
In most games you got your class skills and your craft skills completely independant of one another. Dark and Light went one step further and re-defined the craft system into a whole social make up where you gain exp simply by socializing. They also added another independant skill branch exploration, and will be adding in thier first expansion another independant skill branch in navigation.
You can fly. I know it may not sound like a big deal, but when I got on those hypogryphs in Worlds of Warcraft, I was made that I couldnt control one. In dark and light you can with a variety of aerial equipment, Ballons, Glider, and Dragons. Then you can jump off them 2k feet in the sky.
This one is small but I want to save the really good features for last. This game incorporates a partical accumulation system where snow and rain actually build up. This means you can actually be snowed in; and best of all you can rid your shield like a sled.
Castle system. You know how people complain that EQ2 has no pvp, and WoW's pvp has no significance. Well in Dark and Light it does. There are 12 regions that can elect a duchy. The Duchy is a player. The player can literally rule a land; but it isnt easy. There are like 64 castles to take the majority control of in every region. I think it might be more.
Here are some more small things. Open PVP with restrictions. You can go up to a newbie and try to kill him. But finally a game does justice to open pvp. If you kill someone, a lord can place a bounty on your head and you become a fugutive. Not to mention that the "Gods" in an effort to protect low levels grant powers to low levels being attacked by high levels to make high levels think twice about picking on newbie.
Thats all the stuff I know of as game play features that has been officially announced within the game. There is alot more stuff that has not yet been confirmed.

There are 12 Kingdoms total, two of which are the strating kingdoms (which are bigger than EQ with all of its expansions). Each Kingdom holds five Duchies which consist of seven Counties. Nine Barnoies per County and 13 Fortresses per Barony. When one alignment holds enough Fortresses that Barony switches to their alignment. This means there are 4095 Fortresses. There are also 213 cities and an unknown number of villages (since AI creates its own villages and there are always new villages popping up and other ones moving)Here are some more small things. You can NOT freely attack players of your alignment, but you are free to attack players from the opposing alginment. There are consequences though for slaying a lot of low level players if yo uare high level, and with help from their God on very rare occasions low level players are sometimes given an upper hand.Thats all the stuff I know of as game play features that has been officially announced within the game. Time to clear this up... DnL uses a combination "Skill and Level" system, not just one or the other.
So, it is skill based but enforce leveling in order to be allowed to make good use of your skill? So if someone have no skill or dont like leveling, they are screwed?

Only one problem, it hasn't hit the market yet. And remember graphics don't always make a game "the best".
