Swtor's world pvp ... what is that nasty Bioware hiding from us, my precious?

I have zero faith Bioware has anything interesting planned for world pvp. They already announced instanced pvp in the form of warzones.  So the fact they have a bunch of instances designed already makes it very unlikely they will  have a full fledged world pvp system in the game. It will probably be some sort of wintergrasp type gimmick that is technically world pvp, but it won't be where players spend the bulk of their time fighting or grinding valor.

The other reason I'm not optimistic is that common sense says if they had something really cool planned, we would have heard about it by now. We know all about the story, voiceovers and companions of ToR because the devs are really proud of those aspects of the game. When it comes to pvp, eh, not so much.

The most enjoyable pvp in my book is the type that was just plain fun, like the old SS or Ratchet battles of yore

imo im seeing alot of WAR similarities...everyone gets a bag of loot collect bagdes..so on and so ..we all know or atleast seen what happened to WAR..that being said imo i see certain arenas being open for pvp with the option to play as a team vrs team pvp like arenas nuttin new here ..the only thing that will keep this afloat and make $$ is that it has starwars in the title ...i smell a quick cash in on the virus spreading genra known as theampark mmo's

if they wanna shake things up..make 1 or 2 servers that are for the hardcore pvpers ..open pvp anywhere..you die from another player everything in bags are droped..i love that kinda pvp no arenas no safezones (except nooby zone or main citys) and keep  the arena style carebear stuff on other servers but imo i dont this will ever work on these new type of casual handholding mmo's of today

But, I probably dream too much. :P

This is what I'm hoping for as well...with game-wide faction bonuses to the side that holds the planet.  Nothing to big, maybe +1% xp or something.  Have different planets give different bonuses for control.

    that would be the stuff!!!

Yea they come out and said that they are going to release more info on the pvp front within next couple weeks, sometime in august I think. So I am sure it is the next release of info they plan on doing. We should start to see them ramping up the amount of info for the game since release is getting closer and closer and they have already started pre-order's. We probably should start paying attention to their main site on Friday's at least to see if they release anything new, that is when they were doing their update's anyway. Don't really expect anything this Friday though being that comic con just happened, next week however we could get some more info.

To what extent is it balanced for PvP?

JO: PVP has been discussed since 2006. We have been very careful with it. Different approach to the classes. Star Wars approach, then group role, then, pvp.

Will there be endgame content for players who aren't interested in raiding, PVP, or other group activities?

JO: We have a lot of different player types. We have activities for everyone. If you're not into raids, there's other stuff. There will be something endgame for people who love BioWare story.

DE: We will have amazing PVP stuff soon that could change the game world. World bosses are tough.

  • someone went and did a better translation of the pvp part of the gamestar magazine article:

There will be no companion characters in PvP fights, at least not in the Warzones, where teams of both factions battle each other. The game modes in pvp will be along the lines of classical pvp variants such as capturing and holding control points and Capture the flag. Thus far we have seen four and eight player warzones.Although there are tests for mass pvp fight going on Georg Zoeller didn't comment on mass pvp fights at that moment.

Furthermore BioWare is working on a warzone where players from the same faction can fight faction each other, but only as a backup solution in case the enemy can't provide enough players. There will also be open world pvp fights in which each faction can pursue missions objectives.Several planets will offer special pvp assignments, which could be something like capturing enemy buildings or eliminating enemy leaders.According to Zoeller this ensures that pvp oriented players can focus on certain areas and it gives them a bit more structure. The question concerning armed combat vehicles, Georg Zoeller answers with a promising maybe... So, chances are the players might be able to ride into combat in vehicles, maybe not in open world pvp but in Warzones. Apart from this, players will be able to fight against other players during some of their regular quests, similar to Warhammer Online, where some quests lead intro enemy territory making an pvp encounter more likely.

Bioware hasnt releases much on world pvp . That said they have said there is a whole planet at max level designated for pvp as well as a pve planet. On pve servers there will be areas on planets that will flag u if u enter them also. So there are pvp areas on worlds even in pve servers.

So we know this already what else they tell us in the next month will be fun to see. Im not worried but they have stated on multpile occassions there are reasons to have both factions on a single server.

So they must have something planned for world pvp  Otherwise for warzones they could just have pve servers que cross server.

Well we know there will be open world PvP and PvP servers. We also know that there will be "PvP lakes" on both PvP and PvE servers. But they also seemed to want to make it very clear that they were PvP lakes and NOT RvR lakes. If that means they won't have objectives to capture in these lakes remains to be seen though.

And from all the testers Q&As I've read, they haven't said anything about having open world objectives in the game. That's not to say they won't have them at all though, since it could be something they just haven't added yet. I guess we'll see though. As we get closer to launch I'm sure we'll hear more about it.

Logical since most of Mythic was merged into Bioware in 2009.

I hope they don't bother to put down to many resources on PvP, almost no one cares anyway it seem:

If the polls on these forums is anything to go after, 75-85%  would play a PvE only game after all.

If it was up to me, I would cancel PvP from SWTOR all together, i have FPS games for feeding my PvP needs.

with how dated the combat and slowed paced it is I doubt even a PVP server will be that exciting. All I can say this thank gawd for Planetside 2 on the way and Battlefield 3 to fill in the time whilst I wait for it and some classic Planetside on the side.

Doesn't matter what world PvP is like.  It never is anything more than a side-joke in a game w/ instanced BGs.  The only place it matters is on PvP servers.

I've also heard the feel of PvP in general is "lacking".

  • FdzzaiglFdzzaigl Member UncommonPosts: 2,433

They've teased a lot with that, I'm really not getting my hopes up any more tbh. It seems very late to release any sort of previously unknown system. But who knows, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised!

The latest mystery tease on world PvP:
