Korean pop is destroying US pop.

CalmOceansCalmOceans Member UncommonPosts: 2,437

Pretty interesting, the most watched music videos on Youtube US and Youtube Europe have consistently been Korean. People don't even care that they don't understand half of what they sing, but they prefer Korean pop. Has anyone else noticed this? I don't know why this is happening, it just is.

= most watched video on Youtube right now, 1 million views in 2 days. It's actually not that bad either!

I'm pretty sure that sexy girls are universally liked...

Now, whether people here actually care about "pop" is a different story I suspect.

Any pop music is destroying real music would be a better title

Definitely a interesting genre. To be honest we don't have pop where I live so its.. a bit.. odd.

The misconception of lemming "mass suicide" is long-standing and has been popularized by a number of factors. In 1955, Disney Studio illustrator Carl Barks drew an Uncle Scrooge adventure comic with the title "The Lemming with the Locket". This comic, which was inspired by a 1954 American Mercury article, showed massive numbers of lemmings jumping over Norwegian cliffs.[9][10] Even more influential was the 1958 Disney film White Wilderness, which won an Academy Award for Documentary Feature, in which staged footage was shown with lemmings jumping into certain death after faked scenes of mass migration.[11] A Canadian Broadcasting Corporation documentary, Cruel Camera, found that the lemmings used for White Wilderness were flown from Hudson Bay to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where they did not jump off the cliff, but were in fact launched off the cliff using a turntable

    Oh wait wrong topic sorry.

I don't think so. Korea has their own taste in music and people (especially Aseans) love it. It really doesn't destroys US pop music.

All of 2NE1 songs are 10 million+ after a few weeks. It think it would be unfair to compare them to the highest viewed songs, because they release a song much faster than Western artist. All of their songs reach 10 million+, not 1.

Hmm so "all" of their songs  hit 10 mil + not just 1 or a few that to me would seem more like the like button is being padded to me.

I've heared that many Korean girls are forced to face-lift by their parents. If Koreans girls don't look pretty in teenage, their parents will take them to face-lift hospital. That's the reason those Koreans look the same.

    They are hot , but I don't like " man-made " hot girls.

Korean pop is destroying US pop ? Nope!

I like those korean girls in terms of their faces but there are not hot for me.

After someone posted a link about 'aegyo' on these forums here some time ago, which led me to Kpop bands and Korean shows, I'm actually starting to think that Kpop is better in a number of ways than you see pop up in western pop culture.

The Korean pop scene has an energetic, dynamic vibe to it that I realised I missed in much of the EU/US pop scene.

I've found an SNSD, Shinee or 2NE1 in their performances more powerful and appealing than for example a Lady Gaga or Pussycat Dolls (imo).

Even more, it's not just the Kpop bands: I watched a Korean reality show, Invincible Youth, that had girl celebrities in it that needed to do all kinds of country chores, well compared with Paris Hilton's sortlike reality program, Hilton had nothing on it. It had a completely different atmosphere, it was funny, interesting and touching at times, where as Hilton's reality shows from what I've seen of it and others like it often are meaningless and lacking depth or a wider range of true human emotions.

A month or 2 ago I'd have thought nothing of the Korean scene in its pop culture and variety shows, but now I have to say that the Korean pop scene is deserving all the attention it's getting, there are a lot of bands that are really that good and often more likeable and admirable than their counterparts in other regions of the world image

edit: to add some examples, here's 'Run Devil Run' by SNSD, 'Lupin' by Kara, and SNSD Sunny's version of Britney's 'Three'

Ah, that was you? I couldn't recall.

Thank you very much, you opened up a whole new world to me image Before I thought that Asian pop like J-Pop and K-pop was a cheap shadow of western pop, too sugary and bubblegum like, but that has changed completely, now I think that K-pop is on its way to surpass US/EU pop.

Also, before I thought that Japan was the dominant cultural influence from Asia, but looking at the MMORPG's, variety shows and pop bands coming from Korea, I've changed into thinking that it's actually Korea that is the new kid on the block, it's far more energetic and thriving.

As for aegyo, I didn't even know what it meant, but now I think that Sunny is the absolute unequaled queen of it, I'm in awe, she's the best imageimage

Thanks for the show tip, I'll give it a look.
