maybe that a good thought

this game is very good. it does not go in the normal cLISHe mmorpgs. lvl lvl lvl. get sword of world domination and go kick the poor lad that was playing the game only for 2 months. ?! Competetive. PvP. PvE mainly in groups. Great stream system. GREAT GRAPHICS. Good balance. NO MONTHLY FEE. Well... w8 in queue for WoW server.
Guild wars is a game mainly focused on PvP n GvG (Hence the name "Guild Wars") thats why the lvl cap is 20 n lvling is so quick, its to get u into the PvP faster.
GW is designed Mainly for PvP, not lvl grinding like most MMORPG. "The game is designed to reward player skill and teamwork, not time spent playing,"
GW is the altamont PvP n GvG MMORPG. if u r only into lvl grinding, this game will not last long for u. Tho the short time u play will be awsome.
The experince from lvl 1 to 20 is a good one. Tho, The game will only last for the PvP n GvG fans.
i dont think a lot fo you quite understand after thinking, oh the level cap is 20, that is the most your character can advance.
Each character class has 75 skills, you choose a primary and a secondary proffesion, so you have a skill pool of 150 different skills, depending on what class you take, thats 450 skills available across the classes.
each of these brings in combinations as well, which are more or less powerful depending no how you spend you attribute point, so you could have 5 or 6 Warrior / Monks, and no 2 of them would be even similar.
there is massive diversity built into the game in this way. Basically the game is BUILT to be played at level 20, the idea of the game is not to get to this level, but to find a strong combination of strategy and a good skill set that compliments the 7 other members of your team.
The strategical element is amazing, it's overwhelming the amount of possibilities can be created with that 8 man team.
The majority of you seem to be concentrating on the process of getting to level 20, and missing completely what the game is about, this is likened to playing the tutorial to a game, and then quitting and saying you are a master of the game. Your character will continue to grow in skills after level 20, meaning that you will have a greater pool of options avaiable to you, and you can perform more roles within a group. If you really want you could change what your character speciales in as well as you earn "undo" points each time you gain experience.
in the example above, do you specialise in Strength? Tactics? Swordsmanship? Axe Mastery? Hammer Mastery? Healing Prayers? Protection Prayers? Smiting Prayers?
with every one of those, do you combine strength with axe? or tactics with sword? or axe, healing, and protection?
There are so many options it is unbelievable, that you scratch the surface of them and then back off after seeing a number of a level cap really denotes a lack of vision.
research into the game, and you will be VERY pleasantly surprised, i assure you.

All I can say is, Holyboy has been paying attention and understands the game very well. Thanks for an accurate and helpful post!

Getting to level 20 in GW is like getting a black belt in karate. Most people think having a black belt means you are a master. Anyone who does martial arts seriously will tell you, however, that it just means you've met the basic requirements and can now begin the long process of learning how to master the skills available to you. The challenge in GW is not getting to lvl 20. Getting GOOD is the challenge.

That's about the best explanation of the game I have seen by a player yet. Hopefully this will answer a lot of questions people won't need to post repeatedly anymore. This should almost be stickied at the top of the page as the Section FAQ.
at first i thought lvl20 cap is a bit of a downside. it should take casual player about a week to get there. this is bad, but only a bit. at lvl20 you're able to participate in pvp, and by having all players on the same lvl you're ensuring that the best win, not the most hardcore. probably the first time actual abilities of a player do count. but... i still think lvl20 is a bit too low. if they implement lots of lots of items, i won't care about the lvl cap anyway but anyway, i had such pleasure with guild wars that i'll definetely buy the game
i didnt know this would get somemany posts (off topic) ..................... well if you got more opions go on and say something it would help us all who dunno this game well

People seem to not be taking notice that once you get the LvL 20 your character HASN'T finished progressing. Sure you have erached its maximum attribute points, but you are still able to develop you character by adjusting there attributes via the refund system. You maybe have been a Primary Ranger class with excellent bow skills and secondary Elementalist focused on fire damage. You can change this to a specialised Trapper who uses area of effect earth spells to assist his team. there IS an element of grind in actually being able to adjust your character. This is more in the interest of natural development (and people investing time in the game) and to help people feel like they are acheiving something while playing. the other interesting point is character customisation. At about lvl 20 is when you finally start being able to find enough gold to buy the dies etc. for your armor, and the mixing system for dyes means you will have an amazing variety to choose from.
I am wondering to maybe start playing it when it comes out, to late to enter contest now because i missed quite a few days already so barely no chance. It reminds me a bit of Diablo 2 and I ahve played that game hundred hours and more but now guild vs guild so that may make it nice and free so this is a game that will help me to pass the time untill I am in a new beta or DnL comes out. I can be wrong about Diablo 2 but Guildwars looks a bit like it in my eyes, you can not really craft but that doesn't really matter, you just buy the game don't have to pay per month so this is just a game that has a nice multiplayer mode.

im certainly glad theres a 20 lvl limit..getting to the max lvl in games with limits of 60 and 70 usually takes many hours of ur day and many months of playing even for the most active of players...as well as doing nothing but grinding experience all day just to get that high.i personally hate experience grind with a passion and as long as GW has a low lvl of it its definitely on the top of my list of games to play
although there is a 20 level cap, which is fine with me, but im sure once u hit 20, there will be plenty of skill gems and quests to complete, soo u can do things to get better but u dont have to worry about lvling.

During the January BWE, level 19 with my Ranger/Necromancer took err.
Saturday from
15:00 -> 03:30
Sunday from
05:30 -> 02:00
That's including about 3 hours in towns, and 2 hours while I was eating/being with my family, and about 4 hours of sleeping.
So just over 24 hours. Seems a bit little to me still, but whatever.
-Vanquisher of The Ministry
All im going to say is that GW is about PvP'n and player skill and not grinding or how long you have been playing.
'Exactly'
But it's also about PvE'ing, just not levelling so much.

I wouldn't worry about being "too late" to get into the game and be competitive. It isn't even released yet!
