first off GW looks pretty awesome and can't wait for it to come out alrdy preordered it.........but one thing i wasn't exactly a fan of was the lvl cap <lvl 20> i don't exactly like lvl grinding but i like the idea of earning your lvl and being able to do harder things......a few questions?......do u think they will increse the lvl cap as the game goes on?????         and will it even be worth it to get to lvl 20 or find the best armors and weapons?.................how hard is it to get to lvl 20??.........................will the lower lvls be able to kill higher lvls easily just useing their tactics?

PLz awnser my questions GW looks awesome can't wait for it to come out

Yes lvl cap of 20 is the worst aspect of the game, im sure everyone agrees with you because there is really nothing else wrong with it.

as for an increase of lvl cap not in the origianal game but I have heard rumors of in the expansions. But you never know they could be lieing. In the beta level 20 is max, but you can find like 28 creatures. Am I the only who that strikes as odd? So thats good that there is a defanant chance to up the lvl cap.

In the last beta I made my own char from level 1 and started level up and I though I was tough, then I made a level 20 character and let me tell you. OWNAGE!!! Level 20 is such an awesome thing, I was level 13 or sumthing and I could even compare to the level 20. Thats proboly because I decided to switch to a more powerful class (I was a necro/warrior and then I was a elemental/mesmer) which made the whole difference. Trust me, an elemental is the WAY TO Go haha you couldnt image the difference. In the game I will have an ele/monk buuild that will kick some ass. But there is a defanant difference between classes and levels which is good.

How hard is it you ask. well this was the first MMO ive ever played and I got to lvl 13 and I didnt lvl up0 the whole time. I recall seeing a level 17 or so I think. the beta was exactly 76 hours long, but only like 1 person got that far. I would say if you played for 3 hours a day every day you might be at level 20 in 7-9 days depending on what you do and where you do it. If you play lots and go hardcore then atleast 3.5 days very minimum more like 4 or 5.

You seem pretty pissed about this lvl 20 thing I was to. You having your doubts? So did I. But dude think of it. The game kicks ASS exept for this. Did you know the world changes around you according to your actions, bet that cheered you up huh? Dude there is no monthly fee which is awesome. If your thinking of stopping the preorder for something else because of this DONT. The game is good. It takes a while to get used the the questing and stuff and finding out where to go but its a friendly group of people and you will have fun gauranteed. You seem pretty interested, I know how guild wars works. If you want next beta we could hook up and I will show you why this game IS WORTH your money, even though you might only love it for a month or 3 haha.

    pce

What do you mean will the lvls get high lvls by using tactics? You mean if you a better fighter will you level up faster, chances are yes.

THey aim for the fact that a lvl difference shoulnd't influence your combatabillity (?) too much. They have succeeded so far that in PvE it can still be fun with ppl that are a lower lvl. But in PvP the lvl difference will show when your evenly matched. But when the other team is newb you can win with a lower lvl team. I was lvl 16 in the Tombs arena last beta and I didnt loose every match with my team :) I'm not saying it easy though, when your lvl is lower ;)

So they have succeded on that part i think. If the lvl cap will change only time can tell. They can't upgrade the lvl's with an expansion pack, for only the ppl that bought it cuz that would ruin the balance. They want ppl to be able to be more diferce not more powerfull so that rules things out.

I think they will keep the lvl 20 cap till the release, and after that they can't just change it either. I do agree that the cap should be raised a bit though, maybe add another 10 lvl's at least. I lvl'd my char from lvl1 to lvl20 last beta, and i did sleep also... okay it wasnt much but i did sleep image. So adding another 10 lvl should make it a whole week before you've maxxed 1 char out. Lvl wise that is. Getting the best armour weapons etc will still be a real hunt i think image.

But who knows.... they only showed 30% of the game i read, so maybe after the 70% extra content, which should also be new missions , explorable area with tougher monsters, lvl40?? Rotscale was a bit of a wuss image at lvl30. I heard some1 could solo him even cuz you can lure him hehe. So after we removed all the fog off of this first map we'll get with the release of the game.... who know's there might be a few lvl's added also, woulndt count on it though.

No official statement exists over this matter image. So the option does still exist image. Let us pray.. image image

I don't think they intend to move the cap up anytime soon.  As I mentioned in the pervious thread, the point of the game isn't how high of a level you can get, or how much AL your suit of armor is.  It's about teamwork, skill, and thinking.  Of course there are higher monsters than you, that's what requires the teamwork (and the henchmen make it so you can play solo, but still be in a team).

The game is about skill, and that's how they promote it.  All players are on a level playing field.  No one is so much higher level than them, and has so much high AL stuff they are untouchable.  A level 10 could take out a level 20 in this game, if they knew exactly what they were doing.  And that is what it's all about.  Virtually no ganking, or lop-sided fights.  It's all about skill, and how well you customize your character.  The Guild Wars website and a lot of the fansites, and other forums will explain it as such.  And yes, it's not like a traditional MMOG, but that is what is so good about it.  It's not about playing the game like a madman for days on end, just to reach that next level, or get the uber l00t shield or armor that will make you virtually impossible to kill in PvP.  The players that properly configure and tweak their players skills and attributes will have nothing but success (or at least an incredibly fun time) playing PvP.  At that is what it's all about.

Well I think the same. After lvl20 it will take a while to get ALL spells you desire and the finetuning of tactics is something completely different than just endlessly levelling and finding/bying better and better armour, alsmost a whole new concept in MMORPG. Almost like teamplay in M:TG and tuning your decks.

I think they may perhaps raise the level cap in the expansion pack. It's a lot of work, because all armours, strength of spells and so on are adjusted to make lvl 20 chars.

Guild Wars isn't about level's, it's a game based on skills, and how well you use those skills. In an attempt to assure everyone has an equal chance of being competitive, their level cap is at 20.

Now, this isn't to say that they won't increase the level cap in future expansions, however there has been no official confirmation as of yet about that. ::::02::

For those that feel the level cap is a detriment to the game, try getting into this February's BWE and check out the game. The 'level grind' practically doesn't exist with the missions and explorable areas, will allow you to enjoy a good aspect of the game.

The PvP is fast and furious, offering arena's of 4v4, 6v6 and then Guild vs Guild. It's maybe 10% about items and armor, but it's mostly about your team make-up, and the skills you use in that team.

I think they'll increase the lvl cap and if the game is based on skill then the lower levels should beable to kill higher lvls. They'll probably still allow you to gain better equipment by some other system other than leveling.

most dedicated players got to level 20 easily during the beta, most of those by the second day.

Once again i'll point out the fact that the game is SUPPOSED to be played at level 20.

Do you moan about counterstrike only having 1 level? OMFG NO LEVELLING

it's a different type of game, completely about strategy and character builds, the different variations of skills and combinations are the powerful things, not merely the level of your character.

In addition to this, the game is supposed to be a PvP game, if you are playing with an unlimited cap, characters at lower levels have ABSOLUTELY no chance of competing.

This way those players can get to as strong, and as powerful technically as another more experienced player, but the experienced player works as part of his team who he has played with for many many battles, and each player has a specific role, their skills are keyed towards these roles. The experienced player will have a choice of 8 out of 150 skills for the battle, the unexperienced player might have 10, 40, even 80, but there's a lot less flexibility

    Hi everyone,

i played in the WPE 2nd BETA and 3rd BETA... in the WPE and 2nd BETA i was a ranger/monk. I thought i did some great ass-kicking with my bow attacks. In the 3rd BETA i decided to go all the way back and restart (not an option, all chars were reset) with my Ranger/Monk. When i became lvl 15 (after 40 hours or so) i was equal or even better then my older R/Mo from the WPE and 2nd BETA. The difference was that i decided to go R only instead of half R half Mo. So skills are really important, LvL has nothing to do with it. BUT the higher your lvl the more skills you can have, you are not able to use all the skills in the beginning.

Reaching lvl 20 when starting at lvl 1 will take LOTS of time. BUT it depends all on how you play, e.g.:

My R/Mo (3rd BETA) (half monk/ranger skills) when doing both of the skills i got 20xp from a random monster. if i switch to R only, my exp was between 15-20xp. If i went Mo only, i got more then 20xp. This is ofcourse very random, xp is determined by HOW you play as a team, saving allies (killing the enemy attacking him or healing him) will give you a certain xp bonus. Putting hexes on enemies will also increase your xp gained, same for enchantments e.d. Team play is THE ONLY WAY to win.

Better a team of lvl 15 chars that know what they do and work as a team, then lvl 20 chars that run ahead showing off and get the party killed... communication is the ESSENCE of this game.

DO NOT COMPARE THIS GAME WITH ANY, I REPEAT ANY GAME... THIS GAME IS A CORPG!!! THE FIRST ONE OUT THERE... IT IS NOT A MMORPG!!! NOT JUST AN RPG OR WHATEVER!!!

  • deatdeat Member Posts: 17

Lol, since when are people not allowed to compare!?!

What if some1 wants to but/play a game which seem somewhat similar (Wow/GW), they have to make a desicion somehow...

And don't worry, GW seems like a whole lot better option right now image. I read on the frontpage that the reason a lot of servers were down was because a boat was bugged, throwing little toons in the water and stuff, then crashing the server, and when they want to try to relog... the servers crash again. And yes that game is final, pretty funny stuff image

The level 20 cap seems fine to me so far. I mean i only played the Jan event but i managed to reach level 11 without powergrinding at all. Most of the time i was just wandering around, getting a feel for it. But at level 11 i was able to cut through almost everything in my path.

Then i made a level 20 and the fun just increases exponentially. And the great thing is, if no ones around , the henchmen A.I. is so good that you can do extremely well without any Player characters in your group.

The emphasis on tactics and group strategy is a huge draw-in for this game.

The game's meant to be played at level 20, as Holyboy said. I personally agree the cap should be there, but at least it should take a bit longer to get to it.

Besides, PvP and GvG is what the game's designed for, and I think Holyboy's topic pretty much says it all.

Like Holyboy said it's certainly possible to get to level 20.
I don't know what you've been doing during the beta, but I got 2 characters at lvl 20 with good equips (warrior/necromancer , warrior/elementalist).
