very un-unique skill tree (in AC it is VERY easy to customize your charactor by specializing and training diffrent skills)
gets very boring after lvl 30
there is nothing to do when no one you know is on.
I have played AC (not putting a number buy it to recognize its so called sequel) for 2+ years and I will continue to play, the friends I've made and the fun I've had with them is better than in any other gaming experiance.
Turbine took Asheron's name but they didnt take the game.
numerous people who left AC to play AC2 have returned to the real Dereth.(myself included)
i hear yeah on that one i played ac1 for about 4 years and then went to play ac2 it was ok for like the first month or to (if you dont mind all the bugs and stuff) then they nerfed the crap out of the game. I mean come on now monsters can run into rocks and shoot threw them, but you cant that is just retarded. i got pissed and quite the game on the 4-5 month.
Ok looks like I am going to be putting this on a number of these threads as the threads put similar points, so apologies if you have read it before:
Name the game which is better than AC2 for:
Graphics
Massive changes to game world on a regular bases without having to pay for a new CD.
Not bad solo, good grouping.
Best chat system.
Anything with better emotes?
Anything got a better hierarchical guild structure?
Quest count 74+ real quests. 80+ quests of those kill something then kill some of these type of mini quests.
Any games with more video (still frame) sequences?
Any game got a better transport system or mounts?
Dont get me wrong I dont think AC2 is the best at everything, but a solid all rounder which is good in almost all areas. I think EQ has a better community, Ultima Online better roleplay and DAOC better pvp. But think about those games, how many things are they better at than AC2 on the above list.

*cough* Asheron's Call (AC1). All of your questions point to AC1. Except for graphics.
In the world of MMORPG's graphics mean absolutly nothing. Why? Because MMORPGs are intended to have a shelf life of YEARS. Translation: No matter how good the eyecandy, it will be outdated in 1-3 years. What is left then?
Why is Ultima Online still going strong? (In fact, it has MORE players than AC2 LOL).
Why is AC, and EQ, still going strong?
In all of them the graphics are dated. BUT in all of them more than match all your questions about which game has better. ('cept for graphics. But I've just shown why graphics are not important in a MMORPG. Game features and gameplay are most important in an MMORPG.)
Real Life numbers back all of this up.
Everquest : 400,000 accounts.
Star Wars Galaxies: 300,000 accounts
Anarchy Online: 200,000 accounts
Dark Age of Camelot: 200,000 accounts
Asheron's Call: 100,000 accounts
Ultima Online: 100,000 accounts
Earth and Beyond: 50,000 accounts
Asheron's Call 2 : 8,000 accounts. (It was at 12,000 the last time I played months ago.)
A MMORPG is considered a bona-fid success if it has 100,000 accounts. That is enough to break even, plus make a solid profit.
ok wtf if you start ac1 over there are like 100000000 lvl 200s around how can someone compet to that?? and the graphics sucks!!!!
Ac2 has so much getter graphics and the lvling is so much better lvling might be little heard but come on the pvp is so better then ac1. like in ac1 there can be a lvl 30 with lvl 7 buffs and can take on a lvl 80 b/c ac1 is nothing but how high of lvls spell you can cast that is just stupid in ac2 after like lvl 40 its about how well you put your xp into skills and how you play your char not by how someone else can buff you
so what if you need to get a good graphic card its for a greater cause.
ok wtf if you start ac1 over there are like 100000000 lvl 200s around how can someone compet to that?? and the graphics sucks!!!!
Unless you engage in PvP, then it doesn't matter how many high level players there are in AC1.
Also, new characters are being made ALL the time, either by new players, or by vet players re-rolling new charcters.
The graphics are dated, but they are still good enough to add to the enjoyment of the game. The graphics are ok. Further proof? AC1 has roughly 50,000 active accounts.

1. You are repeating over and over what I, and everyone AC1 fans, AC2, fans, non-AC1 fans, and non-AC2 fans have been saying LOL
Everyone knows the graphics in AC2 are better than in AC1. But as reality shows, in a MMORPG game features, game play, game mechanics, are what makes the MMORPG and keep players paying a monthly subscription .
There is a reason AC1 is still around, and financially successfull, even now, years after release. There is a reason AC2 has been dying ever since release, and now 1 year after release has roughly 5,000 accounts vs AC1 which easily has more than 5,000 accounts.
AC1 when one year after release was a bona fid success.

I agree the numbers for AO and UO have now drastically changed.
UO now has a WHOPPING 350,000 accounts!!! Absolute proof that graphics mean nothing in the MMORPG industry. That game features, game mechanics > graphics. UO is roughly 5+ years old LOL!
AO now has roughly 50,000 accounts. In it's corner is the fact that it has been out for over 2+ years though.... so it has made back all of its investment money, and is pulling in a profit. It IS still a successful game. Not a runaway success, but doing well enough to be around for at minimum 3 more years. It has recently doubled the size of its gameworld with a new mega-expansion called Shadowlands.
Ok. This is my first post here, but I have cancelled all of my subscriptions to other games to concentate on AC2. BTW, I am 55 years old and just upgraded my computer so I could run AC2 with graphic settings on high. There problems at release, but those are all fixed. There is more quests at high levels.
I played AC1 for 2+ years, starting 4 months after release, but left because all the toons were the same. If you weren't a magic user/archer, you were gimped. Story content was wonderful but graphics bad (but way betterthan EQ, which I played for 2 months.
I tried AO, supposedly after it was fixed, but not much there. Missions got boring after a while. I went back after the expansion, but still lacking.
Next was DAoC, which I went to because a good friend recommended. THe main thing I liked about it was the fact I had some RL friends in the game. Waited for the crafting and expansion and then cancelled to concentrate on AC2 which was just starting at the time.
Due to the early problesm with AC2, I played SWG for a while and had 2 accounts. I even subscribed both for 12 months. The subscription does not expire until June but I have not played in 6 months and have uninstalled the software form all my systems. What a disappoint this game was to me. No content. Zero. Bugs galore. Did I say no content. The first story-line was supposed to be 3 months and there was no stiory. What a joke of a game.
SO now, I'm home in AC2 in a wonderful guild. New content and game improvements every month. Almost every toon is unique with different skill sets. If you left the game, go get the free trial. you might be surpsied as to what you'll find. If you never tried it you should.
The only people who say graphics don't matter are the ones with old crap computers and obsolete video cards. Those are the ones that are playing UO and AC1. Not because the games is so great. But becuase its probably the only thing that they can run.
If you have invested in a new machine, spent time and money to get something that can kick butt, then you are going to make sure that your games/software take advantage of the tech you've got.
I've play a lot of non-mmorpgs. I absolutely hated the whole UO series and despise the online edition.
AC2 has a great game engine that you can master in only a few sessions. Sure the game pop is in decline, but those you do find (and it isn't to hard to introduce yourself) are some of the best I seen in an MMO. Clans(Aleg) conduct regular events, generate quests and help you out when you need it. It has PVP for those who want it.
I've played L2. Even though AC2 is older game, it can still hold its own, graphicwise, with L2.
If you guys are so big on gameplay, why don't you go back to Paper n' Pencil games.
Funny I run a GeForce FX 5900 and a 3.0Ghz P4 and for some reason I prefer AC1. AC2 is an alright game but it's no where near as fast paced as AC1.
