A Question about WoW and Druids

Now, I do not play Wow. I am currently an EQ2 gammer, (don't hurt me!) but I have been looking into WoW with much interest. However, before I go out and buy it to see, I would like some info about teh game! After looking at the Wow site, I decided I would want to be a Druid, however I want to know if it is possible to have a DPS Druid? I know about the Cat form and come of teh skills after doing my research, but I want to know from someone/Druid who knows/tryed this. I'ev played a healer in EVERY MMO I can remember, and I would for once, like a change. However Druids just look plain cool! So, is it possible to be a pure DPS Druid?

Hi!  I have a druid level 24 so I can't comment about high level stuff.  But I can certainly say that the druid is a very viable class to play.  He is a hybrid and therefore you must not expect to do as much damage or heal as much as the pure counterpart class.  Otherwise what would be the point of playing a pure class?

Is you decide to specialize your talents in the feral tree, you can so some good damage as a cat.  However, for the druid to be effective you have to use all your forms and tools.  In some fights I shapeshift 2 times.  So there's a lot of keys to press, it's definately not a dull class to play.  If you would prefer to remain in caster form and not use your animal forms, you would need to heavy specialize in either healing or nuking to be effective.

Some would argue that the class is broken.  Some will say we don't do as much damage as rogues or don't heal as much as priests or don't tank as much as paladins/warriors.  And in my opinion, that's the way it should be.  Can't have all the abilities in the game and be the best at it too, now can you?

Maybe a high level druid can expand on what I wrote...

The answer is yes and no.
In general druid is one of the most versatile characters, they can be healer/tanker/DPSer
However, they will not be as good as a character spcificaly designed to be a healer/tanker/DPSer
Druid is OK soloer, tends to have a bit of downtime recharging mana, but druid truly shines in a group... main healer out of mana? no problem, druid can take over, main tank dead? no problem, bear form and tank away, need some power to kill boss mob? no problemo, cat form and fast-and-furious clawing away. Just remember, your druid will not be the BEST tanker, or the BEST DPSer or BEST healer, but its flexibility allows to prevent wipes and keep the group in good health. If you played EQ1 then WoW druid is more like a combination of mediocre cleric/rogue/warrior. Plus you wont need to spend yout gold on the mount, you get travel form to help u run around the land, and aqua form to swim underwater.

    Hope this helps.

Right now druids are considered to be on the weak side. Right now and Cat form is really gimp after lvl40+, can't do crap so it's only use is prowl(stelth). Caster form is fine just like Bear. And i think Druids can be very good tanks since Bear has huge armor bonus and it's skills are good. Cat form both damage and skills suck. Despite all that, Druid is still viable, even without Cat form.

Cat form is best used in groups, you deal small to moderate dmg fast, plus you get some more skills as you level up to raise your DPS. BUt yes, cat form sux soloing becuase of no armor bonuses. I too dont know much about high level druids becuase Im having so much fun with my rogue at the moment. My druid reached only level 20.

I'd like to formulate the druid as: "A jack of all trades but a master of none."

Thanks to all of you for posting! ::::01:: Has helped me much so! After reading through I think if i do get WoW (Hopfully) I'll try to be a dps druid, as it seems like it will be a very interesting experiance! Also another a question. Since I love to RP my characters, are there any RP prefered servers for WoW? Just curious, as most of the time I hardly ever find people who like/want to RP ::::05::

Also, I recommend trying out a few races and classes up to around level 18-20 to make sure you end up with the one(s) you enjoy playing most.

You'll have ten character slots per server (to a maximum of fifty slots per account) so you'll have a lot of leeway to experiment.
